Can't believe this game was created by, if I'm not mistaken, 3 guys and it works so good on a bare bone Amiga. Amazing color palette, dynamic gameplay, smooth scrolling, variety of moves and blows. Where are loading indicators? 🙂 These stages and numer of opponents on the screen! Maaan 😲It doesn't look like an Amiga beat'em up, it looks like an arcade game!!! Everything just blows my mind 😲👌👍If I was in your skin I'd consider releasing next beatem'ups on the Alex's engine. It's technologically outstanding, especially in comparison to the existing Amiga library. When it comes to SMD, you're very close to the Streets of Rage 😀

Thanks very much. At first it was Myself (Mike) as lead game designer and lead artist, and Alex Brown for code and John Tsakiris for Music, but then Corey joined in for Officer Bob (He'll be doing all the bosses and hopefully more than that as we work on finishing the game after we finish DaemonClaw for PC, Megadrive, and Neo Geo)

I commented earlier very similar to yours. This game is a huge achievement for OCS Amiga and is up there with the first Streets Of Rage game, graphically surpassing it in some places, depending on a persons own preference of course.

Absolute 10/10 guys! It's refreshing that it's not just a button masher, and all the moves actually have a strategic purpose depending on what's happening. Also, having some different enemies each level solves my number 1 complaint with just about every brawler, so well done. Amazing work!

Wow guys you are awesome! I tried the demo on my A500 mini and it looks and plays great! Pixelart and animations are fantastic, I especially love the color palette, it's so colorful and bright and all the nice touches in the background and the change of brightness. The characters have more moves than I thought, controls work perfect and I also like the fact the game gets slightly harder on stage 3. Great job!

Outstanding. I watched the entire demo on another channel a little earlier. Beautiful work. Note: re the criticism of "floaty" movements of the characters. Well, hold on, I'd definitely take that with a pinch of salt. I can see no "floatiness" at all, visually, in the way the characters move through the space. The way they move is STYLISED - and perfectly in keeping with similar games of the period - AND the animation in this game is at the higher end of quality for those games. Honestly, I wouldn't change it. You have made a perfectly sound argument about the combat stance and shuffling appropriate to the context (also known as "slide-stepping" in real-life marital arts). Again, there is a difference in animation between movements being STYLISED - and movements being JANKY. In this game, you're on the "stylised" end of the spectrum. On the other hand, the "anonymous" person who commented may have been referring to the CONTROLS feeling "floaty" rather than the animation. I can't comment on that as I haven't played the game. Maybe the person could clarify what they meant?
@RabidGerry
@RabidGerry Ай бұрын
Agree, I took that to mean floatey to play, like they linger in the air too long. I honestly dunno what the guy is talking about though as it felt really good, quick and responsive to me.

Man ive been following the progress of this game since you first started showing it and after watching a gameplay of the demo on another channel i'm amazed at what you guys have achieved. Some people seem to not appreciate how hard it is to pull a game like this off on the Amiga OCS. It's a machine where you have to constantly sacrifice one thing to get another, you want duel playfield mode? Huge on screen colour loss for example. You've done many very clever tricks and all round great programming like the way you handled the parallax and the player sprites (mixing an reusing certain body parts etc) The gameplay looks fast and furious, the art style is fantastic and the whole feel of the game looks great with loads of cool touches. This looks to be by far the best beat em up on Amiga and i'd say right up there with the first Streets of Rage game from what i can tell having admittedly not played Metro yet. Got to mention the art style again it really is impressive. I'd love to see you guys do a proper Contra 3/Hardcorps type game on Amiga OCS, no doubt you could really do it justice. EDIT: Does this game run on NTSC as well? If so does that mean it will get 30fps on NTSC as opposed to PAL 25?
@bitbeamcannon2468

I noticed some comments around wanting more than 4 enemies on screen. Personally if you can squeeze any more out of the Amiga I would prefer to see some more life in the environments. Some of the rubbish to blow around in the wind like it does in that one stage in MK3, some flickering lights on the far back wall in the train station. The only other thing missing is something made of glass that can be destroyed for that crunchy glass shattering sound. Awesome work :)

WOW! This is so, so fun. Just played the demo on my Amiga 500! even with the one button zip stick, its so addictive to play. Love the fact you could roll away when knocked down - that is such a useful move. I loved Final Fight when I was growing up in the Arcade, and ended up with the somewhat limited but ok looking SNES version, but I cannot believe this is running on my amiga! Amazing work, can't wait for the full version - are you doing a big box version? I am guessing floppies not possible, but big box would be awesome.

I cannot believe the performance on a A600 well emulated I think the only thing missing from the demo is more pallet swaps on the enemy's skin tone and clothing if possible
@bitbeamcannon2468
@bitbeamcannon2468 Ай бұрын
I'm afraid we're alreadty maxing out both performance and ram for basic Amigas with 1 meg total ram so we can't fit more art in levels, and palette changes for enemy diversity only works if there are enough color indexes to go around, such as to have enemies that use different color indexes for their skin than the players do, but under the hood Metro Sieg thinks it's a 16 color game, with tricks and background sprites being used to get more color on screen (averaging 60 per level), so all characters share the same 15 or les colors... meaning changing one characters colors would literally change the colors of every character on screen, as well as a lot of the environment graphics. We had to make the game in 16 color mode for maximum performance and memory optimization.

Does this run at 50 fps on a 1200? It is incredible on OCS given how much is going on and how few games could even maintain a consistent 25 fps, but the only thing holding this to being on par with console cousins is not managing a consistent frame rate (not that the SNES was always capable of that... This is much better than their port of Final Fight)
@bitbeamcannon2468
@bitbeamcannon2468 Ай бұрын
Great question. Right now for any Amiga I think it's capped to 25/30 depending on PAL or NTS, but I'll talk to Alex about the possibility of supporting 50/60 on more powerful Amigas. I know the PC/Web version runs at an unlimmitted frame rate (as fast as that specific system can manage, which is pretty much always 60 opr better)

I saw it and I play it. It looks very professional and truly looks like finished product. It plays well, just bit different than Final Fight or Streets of Rage. If there is something I would change, it would be make easier to grab opponents like just walk into them or hold fire and walk into them. There could be more stuff to smash and brake and gey extra items like throwable knives or have more smooth animation for characters walk, but that's just my opinion and by design/ technical it could be different vision on dev point of view.
@bitbeamcannon2468
@bitbeamcannon2468 Ай бұрын
Thanks very much for playing. Regarding grabbing, one of the pet-peeves I've always had with beat em' ups (my favorite genre) is accidentally grabbing enemies when you're just trying to maneuver around and either they run into you or you run into them and suddenly you loose control of your character and you're standing there holding someone. I wanted the grabbing system to be more sophisticated in Metro Siege, hence hold attack and tap forward to lunge forward in an attempted grab. This makes grabbing always a conscious choice and makes the attempt clear via the visual feedback of the game. We made grabbing items holding attack and tapping down for the same reason. You ever accidentally grab your friends trash-turkey when they desperately needed it when you just wanted to punch a nearby enemy? This will be extremely unlikely to happen in Metro Siege. BTW, once you successfully grab someone, repeatedly press attack to knee them, hold left or right and press attack to throw them, hold up and press attack to do an attack combo on them, and hold down and press attack to slam them to the ground near your feet.
@GzegzolkaDA
@GzegzolkaDA Ай бұрын
@bitbeamcannon2468 Also, those short in game cut scenes look very good. I like them as they are now. Plus, I like how fluent is transition between stages, You do not fight in one place and next start fighting in stage that looks totally different. You have natural progression from streets to metro station and metro train. I hope next stages will keep that too.

@@bitbeamcannon2468yez i always hated that you getting ganged up on then you stuck in a grab lock. I actually always thought why ain't there a throw button or something like eg WWF superstars game. Thank you for putting that function for both reasons.

I played the demo and the first level of the .adf version on the A500mini and it seemed to be running correctly aside from color palette data on the left and right of the screen. It seemed to lock up at the first boss with the donuts. Music kept playing but the loading light wasn't on and it was stuck at the first dialog about him being on the take.
@bitbeamcannon2468
@bitbeamcannon2468 Ай бұрын
The lock up issue should be fixed now, and the color bars on the left and right borders are an unavoidable trade off only for OCS Amigas to have maximum colors in the game, the borders are perfectly black on all ECS and AGA (and all non-Amiga) builds.

I'll give the latest version shot. I was playing with the settings last night to try to get the screen size larger and it let me get the crap kicked out of me by the first boss. So the freezing issue was not consistent either way.

How much Ram does a 1MB Amiga end up having available after booting for a program? What about the SNES and megadrive what do they actually have available? I know it's not an apples to apples comparison and I also know cartridge systems can stream quickly from a cart. I notice a few version for different Amigas. Are there any differences in the game for those versions?

For Amiga if you don’t care about needing to exit the game you basically have all of the 1mb. When you load the game directly from disc. It basically loads a little and starts the program than then continues to load the rest. Of course if you allocate and use all memory there is not workbench to go back to but as Kickstart and core things lies in Amiga rom. If you do it good you can still load a game and exit it and go back to systems

How to instantly tell this is not actually a retro game: Female character design completely covered from head to toe, and in terms of the sprite itself, basically looks male. This would not have happened in the late 80s - early 90s, back then the female form was, shall we say, overtly celebrated in games of this genre. Sorry, but I'll take Tyris Flare over Buttless Kim any day of the week lol.
