The discontinued 50's and 60's Baja Telecasters were by far the best guitar for the money. They have custom shop pick up and sound amazing. Really hard to tell the difference between them and American made tele's
@donewithmodernlife4 жыл бұрын
Mike Adams I’m lucky enough to have a butterscotch 50’s Baja made in 2015. It’s so good it ended my Tele search. Picked it over an American made 52 reissue. Killer custom shop designed pickups & an unapologetically fat neck. I made 3 mods when I got it & haven’t changed anything else. Swapped out the horrible cheap looking pickguard for a proper black Bakelite job, installed some Gotoh compensated brass saddles & gave the neck a satin finish with some sandpaper & scotch brite pads. While I wouldn’t mind a 60’s style custom with rosewood & binding my blackguard search is over.

@@mattm2827 The Vintera Series does not have the same specs as the Baja. No custom shop pick ups, no 4 way switch, no in/out phase. 60's Baja had a slab rosewood fingerboard. The Vintera is not close to the quality of the Baja series.

I just got a CRAZY deal on a 4 month old Fender American professional telecaster for the same reason: the seller wanted cash today. He wanted to have a custom mandolin made, so I got a sweet deal and he got the money he needed to finish his mandolin. That's why I always have some money put aside for a really good deal on a really good guitar. Never know what you might run into. but none of it is money I've taken out of my household budget. It's all money I've made from buying/selling/trading guitars over the past 7 years, so at this point, it doesn't even cost me anything.

I got one for $80 in 1998 at a Jacksonville pawn shop. It was left out in the rain and the electronics were roached. I installed Fender Vintage Noiseless pick ups and had it rewired (Chip's). A few years latter I added a Babicz bridge (the old Fender top load saddles kept flopping over when I hit it hard). Darn good guitar to tinker on and take out places I'd never take my American Strat out...but I'd be devastated if it got ripped.
@bobcaldwell5810 Жыл бұрын
FWIW, I picked up a 2022 on sale about 9 months ago. The fret edges needed a little love, and I mean a little. They weren't slicing my hand open or anything like that, but they could have been smoother. Not surprising either since it went from Mexico (humid) to Maryland in the fall (dry). Neck shrinks, frets stick out. $20 tool kit and elbow grease fixed that. The only other issue I had was the tone knob was right up against the pick guard. Loosen set screw, move it a couple millimeters up the post and problem solved. It's an excellent guitar if you dont mind doing a couple tweaks, which I enjoy. It's truly YOUR guitar if you do some work on it. Great vid 👍

A quality amp like a hot rod deluxe, marshall dsl 40, vox ac15 or that peavey classic Jeremy is using, and a mexican tele or strat will get you professional quality tones and you can still get both together, used of course, for under a grand. You can get budget gibsons like a melody maker or lpj for cheap still these days if that's your bag. There's really no reason for the overload of gear out there and the digital crap and pedals. Mim Fender tele or strat, a fender, vox, marshall, or peavey valve combo and your good to go. Forget the rest of the crap.
