The Marimba is not an instrument that usually comes to mind when we think of Mexican music but in Chiapas it is the state instrument and a beloved tradition. In this video we visit Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas to learn more about the origin of the Marimba.
We have been excited to visit Chiapas because of its coffee, beautiful nature, and vibrant culture but in this video we’re excited to spotlight the music and sounds of Chiapas. Tuxtla Gutierrez was the perfect place for this vlog since it has a park dedicated to this musical instrument and across the street they have a museum dedicated to the history of the Marimba. At Parque La Marimba they also offer free performances for the public 5 nights of the week from Wednesday- Sunday at 6pm.

I sincerely respect and appreciate your statement that the marimba was derived from an Afro- indigenous mesh of cultures that should be celebrated throughout Latin America. That was heart-felt. I most certainly want to visit the state of Chiapas.

Coffee - we're IN! Marimba - we're totally in! This history lesson is awesome. Even as a drummer, I sometimes take for granted the existence of so many percussion instruments, and don't dig into their origin enough. So, I'm really loving this! And it's so cool seeing a few people playing on one at the same time! I gotta shout out those Tascalates - they look pretty amazing. And that's band's version of Uptown Funk is killer! Another great video, guys! ♥️

I really love this video and history behind the Marimba. I always thought it was a a Guatemalan instrument but makes sense it being in Chiapas since is Mayan land there. Food looks super delish. Chiapas is definitely a place I was to visit and explore all its wonders 💗
@EatBailaTravel
@EatBailaTravel 2 жыл бұрын
We’ll the history is a little complicated because back in 1545 there was no Chiapas, Guatemala, or Mexico. Technically Chiapas,Yucatán, Quintana Roo, Tabasco, Campeche, Guatemala and Belize were all a mayan area. Then the Spanish, and government divided it all which is why we’d like to focus on the marimba being an indigenous/ African cultural blend than rather argue who had it first.

I think just like the ancients in Mexico built pyramids and so did the ancient Egyptians, the instrument now known as marimba could have developed in different places in their own way.
