In the early ‘90s I had the opportunity to have a private guitar lesson with Michael, and during that lesson he took me through a creative process on how to compose from what is inside your head and heart and translate it to the fretboard. A simple but ingenious method. Listening to this interview confirms what I have always felt about Michael Schenker… He is a true artist.

Michael Schenker is one of my alltime favourits. He is such a gifted guitarist with such an immense sense for melody. My good old friend Karsten said, Michael Schenker has more melodies in one song than most of the metal and rock band in a whole album. I think, he is right.

Yes indeed great comment the whole of Obsession is a superb stand out recording of MS at his early days top of his playing. Look at the solo phrasing in Born To Lose. Incredible. Hot ‘N Ready Cherry The inimitable Only You Can Rock Me - went on to become a UFO staple.

I first saw him in 77 UFO opened for Rush I was so impressed by this 17 year old they stole the show !! I went out the next day and bought every album he had a hand in Phenomenon,Force it,No heavy Petting, obsession and of course Lights out !! This young man was responsible for UFO being so successful if you don’t believe he was the driving force behind that band go to any recent video on You Tube and see what songs their covering. !! Michael Schenker is 1 of my all time favorites because of his awesome guitar riffs !!! I’m glad that he is finally having fun playing !!

This is a fascinating video - but also difficult to watch at the same time. He seems nearly oblivious that for better or worse, he's contributed to his many outcomes - both those that are positive and those that are negative. Everything good that happened was because of him. Everything bad was because of everyone else (-?!?). This doesn't seem like a recipe for personal growth. I wish him the best, and hope that he continues on a clean, successful path & creating new music - he is a fantastic talent, and I've always appreciated his work.

@@joemanna491 I know what you're saying. And, I think I can relate to anyone who feels like they've been "ripped off, underpaid" as the AC DC song goes, lol. . . . but I also think there's an element of Mike not acknowledging that the Scorpions became "most successful" only well AFTER Mike and them parted ways. Mike seems to have adopted a 'me or them' type of positioning, and I honestly think they're both/all extremely talented - and the way he positions it in this interview, is they were all talentless idiots except for him, which I'd have to respectfully disagree with

I remember when I first heard Michael playing in The Scorpions... and the material that he explored in live sessions at the time... it struck me even then, as a young teenager, that he was quite literally paving his own path. I always thought how good he was... naturally talented... gifted; and yet in most conversations that I had with friends or colleagues about great guitar players, I invariably found myself alone in bringing Michael Schenker into the discussions. IMO, he deserves to be mentioned amongst my personal all-time favourite guitar players (in no particular order): Eddie Van Halen Randy Rhoads Gary Moore Roy Clark Angus Young

I have been a fan of Michael since 1979. I play guitar and he blew me away with his style. Bluesy yet heavy and cool. Nobody back then was doing anything like it. I still love his style and I also love the work he did on SCORPIONS LOVE DRIVE ALBUM. That album was the best SCORPIONS album to date!! The guitar tones are massive and cut like a knife through the mix. The Marshall plexi is the best amp for soloing. PERIOD!!! It is so sharp cutting and the notes bite hard and clear. You don`t hear that sound much anymore. That is a shame!!!
