Rūta Vanagaitė, Lithuanian author released the book "Our People" some years ago. She told her family's part as well as Lithuanian people role in Holocaust.

There is a Yeshiva/city in Lithuania after which my family is named. I just hope we were on G-D'S Side during this!

In 1940 the Soviets invaded and killed thousands of Lithuanians. Many of these Soviet soldiers who committed atrocities on the Lithuanians had Jewish names. When the German troops invaded in 1941, the Russians retreated and the German troops were looked upon as liberators. Of course the Lithuanians soon found out that the Germans were no better. So, it was pure revenge on the Jews because they blamed them for the atrocities committed on the Lithuanians. There were also Lithuanians who hid the Jews from the Nazis. It's not true that a majority of Lithuanians were antisemitic. It was a small group of Lithuanians who were engaged in the killing of Jews.
