I’ve been to both Mitad del Mundos, the tourist one, and the real one. I took my kids there back in 2010, shortly after I arrived in Quito. We did the water spin trick and and balance game too with the egg. Pretty amazing. Have also been to the Teleferico. I really felt the altitude there, especially when I walked up the inclined walkway.

INCREDIBLE ! Hard to believe that the indigenous people live in the center of the (dead) volcano ! Having lived most of our lives in Florida, mainly in metro areas, this video was a refreshing breath of FRESH AIR ! Sad to see the young people leaving for the "big city" - the accumulated knowledge of the older generation will probably be lost forever.

Nicely presented video guys. I'm starting the house pack now. Coming for an exploratory trip next year to see if Ecuador's to be my retirement. The spin directions in the sinks are the same as ocean currents. I believe it's due to the higher earth's linear speed of rotation at the equator vs lower speed moving toward the poles. The arguments are skin friction of the vessel (including the ocean floor) or simply speed differential. My personal opinion is it's a combination of both.

Hi Guys, thanks for your videos. Hired Edwin recently on drive from Cuenca to Olon / Montanita and what a pleasant experience. Great conversations, easy albeit quite a long ride, but all in a great experience with lots of local color added by Edwin. Highly recommend his service and hopefully hook up with him again on future visits.

Thank you for posting this video. Your experience of viewing water drain in different directions on either side of the equator is a real phenomenon. It is called the Coriolis Effect much more prevalently observed in the weather phenomenon. Hence the reason why you will not find hurricanes on the equator-regions. A different story for volcanic eruptions! The Coriolis Effect is named after French mathematician and physicist Gaspard-Gustave de Coriolis. Technically you can make the water swirl in either direction depending on other forces acting on the body of water like placement of jets in a toilet bowl. However free body of water with no other external forces follow Coriolis effect. Thanks for informative video.

There were shrunken heads in a glass aquarium at the old Children’s Museum in Nashville when I was growing up in the 1960-70s, probably been there for generations. Both my brother and I remember them from school field trips - a dim, old building with hairy cave man dioramas, low ceilings and spooky stairways. Now, of course, all the museums are bright, sanitary and wide open, with the generic atmosphere of an airport or doctor’s office.

Hello Amelia And JP. Enjoyed the vistas of Nature as it is. Ecuador as a whole is a natural wonderland. The coast, the mountains and the Amazon. The capital city of Quito is celebrating it's 487th anniversary. Not bad for a land that has basically been a crossroads for Incas (Northern Capitol) to the Spanish. Hope to see more videos from Quito. Perhaps on the modern architecture that contrasts with the Old Colonial City Center. ----Cheers! Eddy from Hollywood.

That Coriolis effect "demonstration" has the same educational value as a card trick. The effect is strongest at 45° N and 45° S and zero at the poles and equator. The effect is significant in large weather systems and is detectable under carefully controlled laboratory conditions, but not a few paces from the equator.

I paid very close attention to how he did it. The sink was level and facing the same direction in all 3 tests. He poured the water in and let it stabilize before pulling the plug straight up. The plug was a simple rubber stopper. It was the same bucket of water used for all 3 tests. There was no wind. The weirdest test was the one right on the line. It had no rotation at all. It just went straight down. I’ve never seen that before 🤯

Pan American Highway!! Book ‘Obsessions Die Hard: Motorcycling the Pan American Hwy’ and documentary ‘Long Way Up’ (actually, any of the Ewan McGregor & Charlie Boorman docs are freaking amazing and make you want to hit the road yesterday)! I’ve taken long trips in my FJ but don’t know enough about repairing it myself to leave the US since I always go solo. If I were taller and could handle a bigger bike, I’d definitely consider hitting a trip like that on a motorcycle, something like a Honda that’s easy to find parts for all over the world. What an exciting idea, hope you do it!

😂 Guys, these equator games are just that - the games, made for tourists, to have some fun. There's no proof of anything there. It is impossible to observe different direction of rotation on a small quantity of water. That one as well as the others are just tricks. There's no straight line of equator. You can ask anyone who knows a bit more about the science. However, Javier did the great job and you had a lot of fun and that's what is the most important. 😊

@knjmoorhouse5093

At the equator line we don't have the 4 seasons. If you're coming to the mountains like Quito and Cuenca, be dressed for summer and spring/fall weather. If you plan to do serious mountain climbing, you might need winter gear. If you visit the Amazon or the coast, be dressed for hot and humid tropical weather. You might need a light sweater for the evenings. You should ALWAYS wear sunscreen because the sun rays are direct here and you can still get sunburned on a cloudy day.

You can regard shrunken heads as creepy or cool....but the sobering reality is ,that that was once a living breathing human being who was basically murdered for whatever reason. It wouldn't be so novel if you thought that that person was someone's son, or father , or brother...which they probably were . The reality is, it's a pretty horrific way to end up.
