Just last week I was searching all over the internet for a plugin to just do chord detection like this, but I couldn't find anything that wasn't about a decade old and unsupported. I just came across this video by chance and it's exactly what I wanted and more, thank you for sharing this. Especially as a longtime guitar player trying to learn more theory on keyboard, the tab/fret diagram function feels tailor-made for me.

Had no idea it had its own piano sounds! I've just started learning some jazz and it's been a game changer to be able to know at a glance whether I've hit the more uncommon chords correctly or not. Such an awesome little tool! Fairly sure I discovered it through your videos but honestly can't remember at this point!

How accurate is this for detecting inversions? Have you ever noticed any incorrect labeling, and if so, what are the common failure cases?
@maxkonyi8 сағат бұрын
It's good with inversions except there are times when, due to the key selected, there will be enharmonic naming issues. I'm working with Tom to resolve them at the moment. Otherwise, it's good! I've done pretty extensive testing.

@@maxkonyi That's good to hear. I'm admittedly not well-versed in theory, so I like to be able to visualize what I'm playing. (I tend to play short parts and edit in MIDI, but knowing the names of things and having an easier way to try different options helps.) I probably ought to find a good way to learn more theory directly though, since a tool like this is really just an additional shortcut.

Might be a dumb question, but does it also work as a vst plugin? Could not see anything specifically on the website...

No. What are you wanting to do with it?

@@maxkonyi I was wanting to monitor chords that are being generated and changed by earlier plugins... I think I have found another plugin that will do the job - yes, I could use scaler or other plugins that I already have, but I just wanted something very lite and simple... would sort of make sense to make it a plugin too...
@maxkonyi2 күн бұрын
@@michael_rs Ok got it. The only thing you can do at present is send the MIDI out from your DAW into the included virtual MIDI port, and then use that as your input in CW. I did that quite a lot for this video.

can i use it ad a vst in my daw? So it tells me what notes my midi clip is playing?
@maxkonyi3 күн бұрын
There is no VST form of chordwatch, you need to route the MIDI from your DAW out to chordwatch by using the included MIDI driver. It is definitely possible though. That's what I did for many shots in this video.

Max...Does this app require using STEAM? AND>>>>Will it work in all DAWs?

Does not require Steam and 'works' with all DAWs because it isn't a VST, it comes before the DAW, so to speak.

When I saw the thumbnail, I was like: "Oh my god!?". Because Gumroad considers my country a slum, this tool is 15 USD. And then, I was like: "Oh. My god." 15 PLN, maybe I would buy. We unfortunately live in a world where people have to sell the simplest plugins for the most extravagant prices. Like, I understand an audio plugin being overpriced. But a chord-telling plugin? That's just something I can't understand. The reason why I'm whining about this here, is so that somebody can reply with a snarky comment like "I'd like to see YOU do better.". Because, if I were to conveniently receive such a comment, I would immediately start working on a free, open-source "alternative" (better version of), as I very well can do better. Anyone with enough time can.
@huckleberryfinn10183 күн бұрын
I'd like to see you do better. I think the price is ok compared to other software - if you have use for the features (like being a music making related content creator).
@Yhoshua_B3 күн бұрын
The exchange rate of currency doesn't determine if a plug-in is simple or extravagant. It's value is determine by it's creator and the market. You've never used this plug-in, you don't know it's nuances to determine it's value. You also have no insight into the work and time that went into it's creation to make the statement you have made. No one is stopping you from making a tool that does the same thing but is free and open-source. If you feel you can do it better, by all means do it! You don't need permission from internet strangers to pursue such a task. If you want this tool, I'll buy it for you and send you a key. All I ask is you be more thoughtful about the assumptions you make. Post your email and I'll send you a key when I get off work.
