MARVELOUS detective action, unpredictable plot, action, bodies piling up, and BURT chasing it all down - as a paroled ex-cop! Wow! One of the best from the '70s.

One heckuva complicated plot. I got totally lost half/way through, it had gotten a lot worse as time went on, and at the end, when Lancaster explained it all, I knew less than I did at the first frame. On the positive side of things, this was a superbe HD resolution transfer with unbelievebly good audio. Thank you, DDF Film Magazine.

Very enjoyable film but the Kraft Ebbing book was a key to figuring out some of it but still many surprises. Too some of the dialogue was really good lol witty banter. Good one.

Fantastic movie. World War 1 is so difficult to portray with its horrific conditions. This part of the battle for the Argonne forest provided an opportunity to show the war on nearly untouched terrain.

Not many movies are made about security guards. Some are on there way up the ladder, working their way through college, and many join police departments or the military later... Others are at the tail end of a good career working just enough to help pay for retirement ...

Great movie; Burt Lancaster was a good actor. I thought Natalie looked familiar, and it turns out to be Catherine Bach. Great body, too bad she spent so much time on that trash of a show Dukes of Hazard, though she made millions off of it.

this was quite decent you will like it, but they clearly had to rap it up fast as Burt was forced to settle for the narration full story explained ending, I'm never a fan of that, I want to be involved to figure it all out.. Actors can get some budget but not much, Eastwood had to pay for the last days of production on "PLay Misty For Me" Newman Macqueen Reynolds so many had films get pushed because of $$,

what a bizarre set of characters. everyone is bent and twisted in some way. most of them only care about themselves. the "good" ones have "histories" this is a first-rate movie, if you like them complicated. incidentally, the last few seconds of this one are structurally identical to the last few seconds of casablanca

Lancaster plays a former cop who had come suddenly and found his wife in the arms of her lover, and he shot him in a rage of passion . He served time in jail and was paroled. His former cop friend offered him a job, midnights with campus security, that is how he got there. That is quite a possible scenario in real life. He uses his investigative skills freetime to solve a perplexing murder that everyone else is getting wrong ...

Heck, and I had thought I had seen them all.... But no way, Jose. Here comes Burt Lancaster. Dressed in a $1,200 Saville Row suit. Next minute, he is a rent-a-cop, a college security guard "officer." So, let me see if I get this straight.... one minute he is a convicted criminal offender just out of state prison on parole. The next minute -- he is a campus peace officer in uniform? My, my.... Wait, it gets better. After there is a brutal MURDER in a campus dorm room, guess who is the investigative officer? Yeap, you've got it.... College security guard Lancaster. I guess they have got no real police detectives in Joliet, IL. Buy wait -- here comwes the calary. One of the cops grabs the doorhandle of the murder room -- with his bare hands. Before anyone dusts it for fingerprints. Yeah.... it's that kind of a movie. One of the low-points for Lancaster, who has made some super films throught the 1970s. Like jsut in the previous year "Scorpion" with Alain Delon.

Albert Whitlock was the matte supervisor on "The Midnight Man" (1974) at Universal, where he was responsible for doing plenty of matte shots for the film's latter. In the fall of 1975, he formed Illusion Arts with co-founders Syd Dutton, Bill Taylor and Mark Whitlock on some of their first productions beginning with MacArthur (1977) at Focus Features.
