The Midnight provided the guest mix on Above and Beyond's Group Therapy 247 last week. I had never heard of The Midnight before last Friday and am absolutely blown away by every element of their music. Synthetic currently stands above all of their tracks and has rapidly become one of the most amazing songs I have ever heard. The instrumentation ebbs and flows perfectly with the emotion of the vocals and the lyrics are some of the most stunning I have heard in any song I've ever listened to. Silk Music releases many stellar tracks but this is in world of it's own and I can only thank the label for this release. Life does not play out the same for everyone and some people can end up feeling like an empty shell with no real emotional attachments to others or the world around them. The verses paint a beautiful picture of events which have the power to deconstruct a person from within. The pre-chorus outlines their personal efforts to prevent such things from ever happening again. The chorus perfectly captures the internal thoughts and feelings of a person who has lost all people/things of emotional value to them. A person immensely happy to be living life but conscious of their internal lack of "human" feelings towards the world around them due to life's circumstances. The instrumentation also contains a tinge of the optimistic outlook a person existing in a state such as this can maintain internally as they remain positive and hopeful while continuing to move forward. Quite a powerful song from the perspective of someone who has felt this way for years without the words to describe it to others.
