In all the years of pondering this opinion,"THE MIGHTY HERCULES" charecter designs almost look like the earlier designs from Filmation Associates,in that studio's first six years of cartoon producing. "HERCULES" producer-director Joseph Oriolo really did a great job on this mid 1960s syndicated cartoon series,as this first episode clearly shows! the animation was also pretty well made here,,but then,cel animation back in those days,had varied,,really depending on the budgets-but Oriolo did a great job,here,as did Trans Lux Television,who later launched Japan's "SPEED RACER" series on the air in Fall 1967,before they went defunct,and were later sold to an outfit called Alan Enterprises,and then changed hands to CST or Screen Gems ClassiColors in the mid late 1980s-the series is likely part of Classic Media,which is now known by it's new name-DreamWorks Television!

Joe S Hill Trans-Lux also did their versions of Popeye and Felix the Cat, right? Or did someone else do a different animation style for Popeye"
@DavidBDavis-lz7bt5 жыл бұрын
Trans-Lux definitely brought us Felix, while Popeye came from King Features Syndicate.

The animation in this first episode is far better then the later episodes, and Herc's character design was more original then the later Superman look. And no annoying Newton or Tewt!

It made a come back in the 1980s. I remember this airing on Global TV and then on YTV! :)

Hercules is depicted as virtually Christ-like, here. Theseus and he compete but remain supportive of one another throughout, and when offered his reward for victory, Herc wants nothing more than the opportunity to leave Mt. Olympus (heaven) and descend to earth in order to be of help to humanity.

This was the He-man of my childhood. Daedalus was the proto villain and the inspiration for Skeletor!

Just saw this epi. on Teletoon Retro and is the very 1st episode of the series. Note how Hercules looks nothing like in the intro and in subsequent episodes :) Good memories of watching this before heading off to school.

'heracles' was a known bully; famous for hurting his allies as often as his enemies. in the original greek myths, the dualistic nature of the olympians was also evident in the demi-gods. p.s. i'm terrified of 'cack-us' too. "send it along 'cack-us'!"

His dad told him to keep that God damn ring on all the time. If he listened, he wouldn't have had all those asinine adventures go shitty in the first two or three minutes, and he wouldn't have had to pull his ass out of the fire at the end...BY PUTTING THAT GOD DAMN RING ON. Jez, Herc was such a dope.

Maybe Herc WAS the inspiration for the 1980s He-Man cartoon, but He-Man doesn't compare well ethically. Consider his intro: "This is Cringer -- my fearless friend", he says ironically, sarcastically, mockingly. Herc never shows such traits. "I have the Power!!" he boasts; Hercules never brags in any way. The book of Sirach, chapter 5 verse 1 specifically says, "say not, 'I have the Power', since whatever power we may have has been bestowed upon us and wasn't self created. Herc is more modest.
