@George Costanza The original production reflected 1880s attitudes towards portraying Asians on stage. Including having Yellowface. Are you saying that 1880s portrayals of different cultures aged well? I am sorry but it’s 2022 and there aren’t valid excuses to have white people play people of color on stage🤷🏻‍♂️

@George Costanza I think you’re missing the point why yellow face is outdated. Things that were acceptable and seen as satire in the 1880s didn’t age well.

I agree. Whether people want to admit it or not, Cancel Culture and over PC is a problem. There isn't even any yellowface to begin with. I've seen the Mikado dozens of times in several productions, and now of them used yellowface. There's nothing offensive in the script, as those who know the piece will remember. People need to see it as it should be seen, in a fantasy version of Japan, which was never racist to begin with.
