That Sergeant has a gorgeous voice. As a former Sergeant myself, though, I would have been livid if the director had given the cop chorus all that distracting choreography during my number!

I saw an amateur production of Pirates of Penzance when I was in college (1993). When they got to the "Here's your centerbit" line they just held up a big question mark. They didn't know what it was, and this was before Google or Wikipedia.

Impossible to watch without a big smile on my face! I have virtually every recording of most of the singers here. Joy tinged with a bit of sadness.

Nice. But not helped by the Maj Gen taking off his helmet and very obviously Getting Ready For the Big Number well in advance............... :-/

That's all part of the story line, involving how Frederick became part of the crew.

She’s Ruth, Frederick’s nursemaid. She meant to apprentice him to a ship’s pilot, but instead apprenticed him to the Pirate King.

Exactly
@andrewollmann3042 ай бұрын
@@copferthat You must not be familiar with the Pirates of Penzance if you didn’t know that’s Ruth. Even in the ‘80s movie where she didn’t sing at this part, she was still out there.

I wish the excerpt had shown the ghosts walking out of their frames - I'd like to see how they did it. Even though I saw a stage production, I don't remember how they did it.

I don't know who posted this, but this is NOT "The Ghosts of Ruddigore". This is a recording of a full scale performance of Ruddigore at the Buxton G&S Festival. The Ghosts of Ruddigore is Opera della Luna's version of the show with only 7 in the cast. This is not it.
