Seriously? After the first letter, I would have hired a professional security company with a very hidden camera facing the mailbox - that ran continually. Since it was handwritten, it had to have been hand delivered. Then I'd let the kids play on the porch for one hour - with a camera(s) covering all angles - along with a PI secretly in the house also watching. It may have cost some money, but if they wanted to flip the house, it would been easy after they caught 'the woman'. The theory that they were in over their head is plausible; if they can't afford the mortgage and taxes while living with the parents how would they afford it once they moved in - with utilities, etc to boot. Seems odd. I know the area - really seems odd.

If it doesn't match to descendant it is nearly guaranteed to not match with parent as well. Because as you should probably know children share DNA with parents. In fact lots of murderers were found without ever taking their DNA but through the DNA of their genealogy. Most famous example is how golden state killer was found, they have never took his DNA as a suspect before they found him. If the letters were being kept in the mail box, a Camera or a trap would have worked amazingly for the Broddua, dont you think. Something that would catch them for sure. Also the bf didn't come, doesn't mean the lead should be let go. If the cops were useless, the PI could still have asked around.

You chose your title very carefully, right? More careful than other titles? Had you said this was the story about "the watcher", you may have missed out on views due to people having listened to the story multiple times, but like me, others wanted to know why people wouldn't want to live in an expensive house. But great job, I was hooked even when I figured it out a few minutes in because unlike all those others who have told the story, I think you have an edge in story telling.

@@dylanwolf Thanks. I learned the difference (noun or verb) and used to be aware of it when writing in college. Now I just hear the voice in my head use the everyday wrong pronunciation and I'm too lazy to think about it. (At least I get 'too' and 'to' right.) It's the same with lay and lie (which is transitive and which isn't), and hardware and underwear (but not werewolf). I'll leave it as is so others can see the error. My pet peeve is "there, their, and they're", but I have to remember that English is not the native language of many commenters. But I have no problem writing a sentence that I have to put a preposition at the end of. So sorry... I have no problem writing a sentence where I have to put a preposition at the end. (Yes, I do have a problem.) I also love the overuse of parentheses. (Only as an aside.) And sentence fragments.

Okay, I had a thought… The police literally looked at everyone in the neighborhood as a suspect, including the family that bought the house. But there are two people they never even thought to question or look at: the people who sold them the house. I know it makes no sense for them to terrorize the new owners, but since when do people make sense? It’s quite possible they were the ones sending the letters and it would explain why they never caught “the watcher”.
