My guess is that if you were removing the blade from storage to replace the old blade, you could remove the used blade first to address the safety concerns.

They both can lift caps. Just need more practice when using the cobalt. A bic lighter works well. For me it's if you want the seatbelt cutter or screwdriver. The blade storage is a moot point as you'd pull the blade first before going for the new one .

I've been using and abusing the Kobalt for about 2 years. I used it every single day, never leave home without it. However, after seeing the video about the Milwaukee about 2 weeks ago I went out and bought it just because of the screw driver. It may seem silly but it has already come in handy a hand full of times. I will say the opening action doesn't feel different to me, I can pull either one out of my pocket and open it in one smooth action. I actually prefer the clip on the Milwaukee though, it feels stronger. My Kobalt clip is stretched pretty bad and doesn't grip my pocket anymore, I believe the Milwaukee will hold up a little better over time.

I did the same thing. Iv had my kobalt for years and then when the milwaukee knife came out with a screw driver bit built in i bought one. Unfortunately mine does not feel the same when opening or closing the button is alot stiffer and harder to fully release. The belt clip is to hard and stiff to quickly put it in my pocket i usually had to use 2 hands which is not cool.. Also it doesn't fully open and lock properly about 3 out of 10 times. I don't know if I got a faulty one who knows but iv never had any issues with my kobalt I have been using for almost 5 years now Nothing is wrong with it except for the fact the handle is made out of nylon which hasn't been a problem really at all except the end of it is a little chewed up from opening 5 years worth of beers 🤣

Mainly for tightening things with the screwdrivers, opening boxes from the mail (mainly from the wife), and once in a while I open a beer or two just for the hell of it. I tell you what, it comes in handy around christmas time, for sure.

The Kershaw Select Fire (1920) is basically the pocket knife version of this tool and I love it. It's nice having the screwdriver/nut driver built in so you don't have to use your blade as a screwdriver, and it holds 4 standard size bits while the Milwaukee has the extra long double ended bit that would be harder to replace. The Milwaukee looks like a great option for a utility knife though.

As a construction worker I like the newest kobalt speed release the best. It doesn't have wire cutters but I don't ever need to cut wires so that's fine for me, the release action is smooth as butter, it has the 3 blade storage in the back and feels great in hand. And the knife and 10 blades come with it for only $15. However for an electrician I think Milwaukee is better. It all just depends on what you need it to do.

Having used them all on a daily basis for years(plumber), I now consistently buy the red tool shop version.(menards).Main reason is the price and size. Its cheap and small. It works just fine and Menards replaces it free, I take it in when the screws start loosening. Price is a major consideration for me because this is the tool I lose the most! It also opens smooth after about a week or so, out of the box it wont though.

It usually comes down to personal preference. I’ve used the kobalt for about 3 years, works great,only issue is the pivot bolt getting a little loose, easy fix. As long as it cuts without the blade coming out and getting stuck in card board or whatever your cutting without one noticing !! Safety first ! All we need now is an automatic ! Thanks for reviewing both for us. Cheers🍻

Update: Milwaukee ($20) vs Kolbalt ($12) / let’s do the math. I have both. Milwaukee: - better ergonomics on handle - screwdriver & bit included - 1 extra blade storage - jimping for thumb placement for hard downward cuts (very important) - of course, bottle opener / paint lid remover. I think you get the idea. Kolbalt is a decent cutter & I let my teen son use this for projects, if you get what I mean.... ; )

I saw your review on the Milwaukee. Loved the comparison. Seen this one, again a nice comparison. I haven’t needed one as two years ago, I bought several of the Husky (2 for me and 4 as gifts). They have easy blade change, safe storage for 4-5 blades, comfortable, sturdy, light, and lock tight in straight out, 45 and 90 degree angles. Best of all they came 100 blades and cost 9.98. Still work like new so you’re right. They are just right for me and us who use them. All are very good and it’s just preference as all would fit on my bench, in my pocket or pack out. Side note: thanks to the derecho we had in august, needed a new roof and had to ask for my husky back from a roofer who tried it and likes it better than his kobalt, lol. Preferences and options, thank goodness we have them and don’t think you can go wrong with any of them. Appreciate everything you do. Happy Thanksgiving, stay safe all.

Yeah I use to deliver appliances at lowes ironically and bought that same knife one Black Friday in a combo pack with another kobalt pocket knife. That knife was my number 1 tool delivering appliances because of the amount of cardboard we cut in a day, and it never let me down once. Still have the knife to this day and use it on occasion being a lineman now. Only 2 complaints I have is once in a while the button will get really weird feeling when pressing it, like a spring of metal wires behind it are getting tangled, but spinning the button fixes it. Other complaint is the clip would often get bent catching on random things though the day, but my channel locks quickly bent it back into shape.

I just picked up a set of 3 Kobalt knives. It comes with one of these and two compact versions. I agree that they are pretty nice, however the QC is inconsistent. Some are oiled up and operate smoothly, some not. Some have a pretty tight blade, while some have some wobble. I think I'll need to open them up and rectify that.

The thing that sucks about Milwaukee is they don’t sell a replacement bit. They know the bit holder will loosen up over time and it will fall out. So why don’t they either use a detent ball on the bit, or sell a 5-pack of replacement bits? Either it’s shabby engineering, or Milwaukee is hoping we’ll lose the bit and have to replace the whole knife. I hope some other manufacturer copies their knife, but with a better clip and bit!

Just got the FB Gen II (100% 'cause of ur video, thank you, very happy). Don't have the Kobalt, but from what I hear you say, I prefer: Kobalt Pros: * Blade Eject * Blade Stripper & Hand Stripper (sound like the back rooms @ a Detroit titty bar) * Flush Butt Clip (this one too) * $10 Price Tag (last time, lol, this one too) FB GII Pros: * "Blade Storage" * ¼" Hex Driver (Deal Maker for me) * Thinner Body * Rounder, More Ergonomic Body * Lanyard Sounds like both have a 4¾⭐ quick release & as far as the bottle opener, if you can't open a bottle w/ ANY flat hard object, you probably shouldn't be using a knife unsupervised. For me tho, the ¼ Hex seals the deal: FB Gen II for me. Keep up the great content. RNL!

I was part of the 5% on the last video. I appreciate this video. It always depends on what you do. I buy 20-30 kolbolt knives at a time when I can get the price at $8. Let’s be far I will break both of them. I buy commercial blades already in a plastic pack that are in my pocket. I usually have 3 knives each with a different blade in my pocket. Size matters. The slot on the kolbolt when the knife is open is fantastic at accepting lvt or lvp to use as a leverage for a snap. I do flooring, meaning I live or die with a knife. I don’t just cut boxes open and drink. Now for the most part brands matter to me. It’s the evolution of who has the best patients on the tool. You can’t beat the Milwaukee hole saw nor saw zaw. The fien, dominants the vibrators. Every brand has their flagships. But now every brand is also making cheap knock offs. Model numbers are key. Box store are making it almost impossible to buy tools.
@tileslay6543
@tileslay6543 3 жыл бұрын
And you made a fantastic point on the way the blade is held in! This is the true deciding factor on longevity. Cover both knives in mortar and glues. Easiest to clean and remove the blade from multiple times it’s the lever. If you are really pushing and using these knives the button will fail allowing the blades to come out. This happens on the kolbolt but about twice as long the life. Dewalt knives had the same push button and that’s what failed before the knive failed. This is only for those who really need knifes.

I use the simpler Milwaukee 1501 - no screwdriver no extra blade. It is more compact and comparing them in the tool shop I went for the thinner model because it fits just right in my pocket. I also like it because it screams tool as opposed to weapon which tends to keep the pantywaists from wetting themselves. The Kobalt is interesting, but the Milwaukee is superb. The older style Milwaukee fastbacks have a good paint can opener on the top. You don't realize how much you use it until its not there!

I decided to spend 20$ on the fastback solely because of the screwdriver. I like to bend electric wire with the loop on it too

Detailed comparison. I'm a fan of the Milwaukee. We have these in Canada by the way. They aren't automatically opened via the button press like a switch blade so they're legal. :)

I’m a Milwaukee guy but I vote cobalt. I’m never going to buy a utility knife that is a multi tool. I want my utility knife to be just a utility knife.

I’ve had that kobalt for a couple years now and it’s been $9.99 for as long as I know. Screwdriver would be nice since I also carry one but bottle opener is irrelevant.

Between the two knifes, I'm a bigger fan of the milwaukee. But my go to utility knife is the gerber eab. It's small, lite, and fits easily in my pocket. Considering I have to carry tools for my job (maintenance technician) every ounce counts.

Could you use the wire stripper notch on the Kobolt as a bottle opener. Personal hardly ever use a bottle opener but it is a cliche addition to just about every multi tool.

Things the fastback also has (Don't think I saw this on here or the other vid). The screwdriver has a soft lock at 90 degrees. The blade also has the scoring cutout to place your tape measure in.

1. Couldn't care less about a bottle opener. 2. I love my Milwaukee Fastback! I need a cutter and a driver more than any other tools, I already carry extra bits with me (a couple of rare earth magnets on fingernail clippers keeps 4 extras neat and handy), so all I need is the driver. That was the main reason I bought it.

That Milwaukee is sweet!!! But I have had the kobalt for over a year now and I love it. If it ever breaks I might go to the Milwaukee just for the extra features. But until my kobalt goes out imma stick with it.

I pick the Milwaukee. I actually like the wire pocket clip. I find it easier to clip to your pocket. Also like my import beer and use the bottle opener quite often. And also handy to have the screwdriver here and there.

I have the older Milwaukee fastback. I use it everyday. It gets hard use. I’ve had several other ones. Nothing has been as good. Haven’t got one of those new ones. I like the screwdriver and bottle opener. However my work fucks blades up! Not having the extra blade storage may or may not be a deal breaker. I need to get one in hand and put it through a few weeks work.

I've had the older, metal, no extra blade, Milwaukee and it's been in my pocket every day. Ran out to get the new one (because I have no life) and I'm happy with it. But, I have no need for it since my old one is still just fine. Now, you got me all thinking about this Kobalt one (because I haven't gotten a life since the other day). I must get one. That said, I like the red color of the Milwaukee so I can find it easier. Everything else is always freaking black. I do not need the bottle opener (the hooks for it are kinda sharp anyway). The Kobalt does look pretty good, especially for the price. Damn. I'm gonna be a tool and go get this tool. I'll also check if Lowes is selling lives.
