I think it was like explained in a post or the Description of the teaser trailer. That steve is staying there willingly. He was fed up with his boring life back in our world and when he discovered the Minecraft world he used to Switch back and fourth until his stays in the Minecraft world became longer and longer each time until he decided to stay there permenantly and close the portal. Although it seems like our Main group is now stuck there, possibly due to losing one of the two parts required to open the portal.

What's the blue portal? Can't say for sure, but my guess is that an OLD mod back in the day had what was know as an "Aether" Portal. now, these were made with glowstone, not obsidian, but the portal color was the same and I think it's a type of homage.
