I watched The Munsters on TV as a kid, but I never knew the show had an animated special.

It actually was an episode of ABC's Saturday Superstar Movie which aired on Saturday mornings in 1972. The series featured animated versions of then popular television series like Nanny & The Professor, That Girl, Bewitched (Tabitha & Adam), Lost In Space, and The Munsters. Three shows were spun off from this series, The Brady Kids, Yogi's Gang and Lassie's Rescue Rangers. The show had episodes made from all the major animation studios: Warner Bros., Hanna-Barbera, Filmation and Rankin/Bass. Warner Bros. And Filmation teamed up to produce the episode, "Daffy Duck & Porky Pig Meet The Groovie Goolies" which featured a live action segment of The Groovie Goolies. The episode, "Popeye Meets The Man Who Hated Laughter" featured Popeye and other King Features characters like Blondie & Dagwood, Hi & Lois, Beetle Bailey and also the first unofficial appearance of The Defenders Of The Earth: Flash Gordon, Mandrake The Magician, Lothar and The Phantom. Another episode that is sometimes seen in syndication and has been aired on HBO is "The Banana Splits In Hocus Pocus Park" which shows The Banana Splits In live action and animation.

Tubi TV has this in color. Full length. The half-length version aired on USA Network for Halloween 1988.

And I saw it on USA in 1988 after the Fat Albert Halloween Special. And then we moved to a new house in December in an area that had no cable.

I just checked Tubi after seeing this, it's not on there anymore. They do have a special called Marineland Carnival with the Munsters in it, which was worth seeing.

@@hectormanuel8360 It's WEIRD to see The Munsters in anything but B&W! I think of The Munsters as an extension of the classic Universal Monsters since the TV show WAS produced by Universal TV AND reused the Frankenstein Monster makeup for Herman Munster. It's as if The Classic Monsters had a respectful parody version for a brief 2 years in the mid-1960s.

Nice to see the full original thing. I'd complain about the lack of color but I don't really care because 1) The quality is at least great. 2) The original show was in black and white, so.....

I seen this in color but not the full version. It would of been nice to see the whole thing in color but the original series was in black and white. I really shouldn't complain at least the quality is good and some people didn't know this existed.

Al Lewis was the only original voice in this cartoon special!

I noticed that, too. Either they were trying to save money by not using as many of the original actors, OR the other original cast members refused to do an animated short. They probably didn't pay anyone who did voiceover for this special that much!

🎃🎃🎃 Wow! I didn't realize that this animated special existed. We missed out when we were kids. Too bad that Marilyn is missing. What's the Munsters without Marilyn? Nice to have Eddie as a teenager

I've SEEN some of the other Saturday Superstar Movies, but I've NEVER seen this one! It looks pretty good; the black and white filming is a nice touch, as most of the other movies were in color. It's nice to watch it, though.

I wonder if this was originally intended to be a pilot for an animated continuation of the original Munsters show. I mean Eddie is a teenager in the special and Marilyn is nowhere to be seen so maybe she graduated college and moved back home?
