Both Minibosses and Powerglove have their awesome takes on essential 8-bit; both bands simply have their own particular strengths and style to my ears, both in technique and rendition. Honestly, I don't see the point in comparing for the sake of "who's better?" I prefer to soak up both and indulge in the fact that there is more than one sweet band out there making kickass versions of NES audio.

@jesseoreilly17922 жыл бұрын
I do find that some of the other cover artists out there try so hard to "metal it up" with the drums, that it distracts from the melodies. Most of these songs sound super Metal the second you play them on a distorted electric anyways, so it's really not necessary.

@OozeSlimeJelly Fewer number of instruments and fewer notes that could be played at once meant a lot more creativity had to be used to make it sound good. Converting 8-bit themes into higher-rate themes works a lot better than converting higher-rate themes down to 8-bit for that reason.

More composition thought went into them where when the quality got better, they turned into more pop music
@drpibisback76802 жыл бұрын
@@shred5 Plus more evolved sound hardware brought with it new approaches to game sound design - modern games tend to have a lot more work with ambient and atmospheric sound design because they can store and play back actual audio with rich textures, whereas NES games were locked to basically three monophonic synth voices and a noise channel for drums. Everything has to be done melodically because there's no room for adjusting timbre and you can't even do full chords.

This is awesome. But why do they need two guitar players to play the exact same thing every so often? There's two guitar players, they should take advantage of that!
@zaphod778 жыл бұрын
two pulse waves= 2 guitars. triangle wave=bass. to ba fair many of the parts could be squeezed into one guitar, but not all. so two are needed to do all the tunes right. drums do the noise and pcm channels (well except for that one song from skate or die 2, whihc uses samples for a third gitar, which they really should do someday)
@drpibisback76802 жыл бұрын
@@zaphod77 Also just classic heavy rock production - two guitars doubling up a part sounds a lot fuller than just one.
