There are many instances of fires onboard ships that were caused by dockyard workers - usually because of welding performed too close to flammable materials.

And I bet you dimes to dollars that none of those workers were trained specifically for military ship repair. Just old dudes with cigarettes hanging outta their mouths.

Great explanation Brin. Pretty sure you are right they will have to scrap the ship now. Would not want to be the person dealing with the torpedo's. I wonder if the ship will get towed away never to be seen again in very deep water.

With much of the super structure now destroyed, it’s only really the hull left. The ship should just be taken out and scuttled.

Second of the four Kiev class carriers to be taken out by a fire. Her sister the Novorossiysk suffered a massive engine room fire and was scrapped in 1997.

The Kiev, the first Kiev-class aircraft carrier, was converted to a luxury hotel in Tianjin, China. Maybe I’ll go stay there one day. I hope it doesn’t burn down.

Portable generators were brought on board for the lighting systems etc. The old electrical circuits probably burned out.

My mistake. I thought it was "kyiv", as in the capital of ukrain. With the war going on there it just seemed odd that a ship with some sort of connection to the capital of ukraine would burst into flames at this auspicious time, when things appear to be changing so quickly in the war. BTW, does it make sense to anyone that putin might be planning to simply evacuate the occupied part of his country and then just (tactical) nuke the place "clean"?
