I loved Anthony’s reaction. In the books Anthony and Pen have a pretty close relationship. He acts like a protective big brother of her because she’s considered part of the family. So much so the servants let her (and Pen’s book only little sister Felicity who is Hyacinth’s bestie in the books) roam freely around the personal quarters like she’s one of the kids. Anthony walks Pen home from the house and they have nice, caring conversations. Thats why Anthony is so upset with Colin’s news. He wants to make sure that Pen was as respected by Colin as Anthony would expect a gentleman to respect one of his own blood sisters. Thats where the duel comment came from bc Anthony dueled Simon over Daphne’s honor.

Just so you know, the queen smiled once she figured out how to play off what whistledown wrote without seeming to have lost or looking defensive. In the same way that she chose to "save" the Sharmas and Bridgertons last season in order to save face and maintain control over the ton. All of these machinations within the ton are like sociopolitical chess to her and she thinks of whistledown as her opponent in the game. Chessmasters often say that you need to play the oponent, not the board, or words to that effect. This chess metaphor will be particularly helpful to understanding her "moves" later in the season.

Yes!! Congrats on 40k. God, i was screaming! 😏 This is my favorite season. They have way too much chemistry, but i loved him defending her too and his scene with Anthony and benedict. I was so tense at the end.

If I was talented enough in editing I'd make a video analysising John Stirling cause so many people dony realise how much he's said a lot about himself without saying too many words. The amount of time and nuance his and Francesca's relationship must have taken to get right in the writer's room which is what baffles me about the finale last 10mins totally blowing it.

Agree with the comments about showing her body as attractive, even her hips and stomach, normally this part of the body is covered unless the woman has a perfectly flat stomach. I don't know that I have seen a scene like that before.

HAHA I love your point about men pulling all the moves that turn a woman on to then wanna ask "are you sure?" like boy COME ON lol what do you think? I loved the mirror scene. Felt like a very realistic first time. Nerves, excitement, vulnerable and sweet...but still sexy. If Colin had defended me the way he did Pen, after all she's had to put up with with her family??? I would have been weak too....😅Such a great episode. Those last ten minutes had me on the edge of my seat stressed!

As someone who has an IRL mother like Portia, when I tell you that Colin telling her off was the hottest thing he could possibly do... oh my goodness. Between the carriage, this and the mirror scene, Pen was raring to go.

The hard part about the ultimatum is that Eloise sort of had to set it for that night of the party because of the queen's bounty. The thing is, she knows that a bounty like that will cause the ton to go rabid searching for Penelope and someone is bound to figure her out sooner because of the engagement making Penelope more "visible" than she's ever been. If she gets caught before Colin knows, then he and the family can't do much to protect her from the queen's temper. If he knows, then they can use their power and connections to soften the blow or even make it blow over entirely (like they did to save Eloise last season). I suspect that she'd have given more leeway if not for the bounty hunters she fears are coming for Penelope (who may have personal grudges against either whistledown for her column or the featheringtons for the fraud last season) and the queen (who could banish, exile, or imprison her and could even punish both the Featheringtons and the Bridgertons for harboring her). People have lost lives, fortunes, or titles for much less than the treason the queen could hold against them all. Yeah, i don't like that this urgency and the stakes weren't properly explained in the show, but it really could be that dire. As her fiance, at that time i think Colin could be seen as culpable and if they're married when it comes out, then he's legally responsible for her actions. Her money becomes his, and so do her crimes. No joke.

The way Portia instantly 180s when Colin confronts her about loving Pen was so interesting. She was angry when she thought Pen might have trapped Colin somehow, but after his love declaration she gets the older sisters to stop bullying Pen 🙃 She is a fascinating woman.

I for one don't feel sorry for Cressida because she's such a mean person....She's a bully who has constantly bullied Penelope non stop so I don't care about her freaking feelings! She's a terrible character!

@@EmotionalFlowerBlooming oh she’s absolutely a bully and a villain, I just found it interesting that they show how she has become one- the result of having a cruel family and being backed into a horrible corner. Villains are not born after all they’re made. I was surprised that I found myself feeling sorry for her plight with that awful man, but I do… it doesn’t justify her actions at all but I still don’t think anyone deserved basically being locked in a cage with that awful man.

I never would have expected Cressida to be a character I had any interest in, but her arc this season has been really well written and I genuinely don't know how to feel about her yet (1 ep to go 🤫)

But I will say that at this point (episode 5) I was very torn about what to feel, I had sympathy for her plight but at the same time I was thinking “you stupid girl, you can’t support yourself without Whistledown money which you don’t have and you’re stealing credit which is wrong.”

As an autistic I DO think Francesca and her fiancé are both very autistic coded. Not just because they are socially awkward, but Francesca is clearly bothered by the house being so full of people/ loud noises (like multiple conversations in the same room). Although I haven't dated yet, I think them choosing to be with each other in silence over conversation with people around them is totally something I would do with a partner 😅 lol

I adore Kilmartin and Francesca so much, I think they might rival Charlotte and George as my favourite Bridgerton couple!!! Whilst the fire and brimstone of the passion of the other couples is very enchanting and exciting, I personally am quite similar to both Franchesca and Kilmartin (and Eloise lol). So seeing people like me find love that is calm and comforting and easygoing is so refreshing.

When I wished for Cressida to marry someone horrible I meant in the case of two people having a shared sense of snobbery and superiority so that they can find comfort in each others high opinion of themselves and can sneer at everyone together. I thought the same about Kilmartin (not sure of the spelling) being on the spectrum and Francesca seems to be as well. They get one another because they are both on the spectrum. Francesca had that deep hyper focus when it comes to music and yearns for quiet. A lot of social and noisy situations make people on the spectrum very uncomfortable. I enjoy your reactions so much!
