I also noticed the second couple whose wedding announcement was called out in the church, after Penelope and Colin's, involved a woman who was also full-figured. This was clearly a show don't tell moment by the creators to make it clear that a woman doesn't need to be willowy to be desirable. Cressida is the supposed classic beauty, yet because her beauty is primarily skin deep, she can't find a loving or even appreciative partner.

I totally agree with you, that scene did feel very... exposed. I love that Anthony made sure Colin proposed to Penelope for the right reasons, but also told him explicity to make sure that he told her as well. After Anthony himself failing to do so the first time he asked Kate to marry him. 🥲

It was truly a disservice to the show to not have the flashback of when Penelope and Colin met. Not only would that have been adorable to see them meet as kids, but also, it is the ONLY couple that they could have done that with. It also would have helped the audience believe their love story more. Such a shame 🥲

@@selenarodgers5667I think the issue might have been that in the show they met as children while Colin fell off a horse you can’t film that with a child I believe some Laws are in place to protect children from that sort of filming. there would be no possible stunt double child. My way around that would have been to show when the bonnet hit is face then show her scream in fright then roll back to the child in the mud without actually showing the fall but I don’t know the logistics or the whys on this maybe they didn’t think the Audience needed it. I don’t really mind not seeing it as my attachment is really on the actors Nicola and Luke so I might not feel the attachment to the kid actors for just the one scene hearing him talk about the fact that he found her charming was enough for me.

This! We keep getting told about Colin being so selfless towards his siblings that he has all of these great virtues that Penn fell in love with yet we're never shown. I can't help but compare this to True Blood (I know a dated reference) but they did a great job showing why Terra was in love with Jason despite his f*ckboi status, and all it took was a single flashback.

Funny enough, I do believe that the whole feelings-aftermath from sex scenes is another area where intimacy coordinators come in - they do talk to you about those feelings and sorta keep you grounded, reminding everyone that this is a job, they're not "real" and you're probably just horny lol. IC are absolute MVPs of productions! There were some ppl who were loud about not liking the sex scene and I was sooooo nervous cuz I'm rooting for Polin and then.....hoooooo boooooy! I COULDN'T BREATHE! OMG it was so sexy and *intimate* I loved it because it felt so much more grounded and thus REAL. I really could go on about how that aspect makes it amazing, but more than anything, story-wise, I think it truly reflected their personalities & dynamic as a couple: Colin was constantly checking in on her (I do believe he asked for consent 3x), saying he'll do everything but Pen actively wants to participate & takes initiative like when she grabbed him. Even the slight awkwardness & funny cute moments show they are comfortable with each other instead of trying to play it cool or whatever. And I think the way they took off their clothes is really symbolic for their arcs - Pen got her glow-up & Colin was putting up this swagger front but once they're finally together, it all goes away. UH-MAZING job by Luke & Nicola

Thank goodness for intimacy coordinators! Also makes a weird kind of sense of all the prolific rumours of constant on-set affairs in film and TV...like, I'm not EXCUSING those infidelities, but the loosey-goosey professional circumstances (not to mention exhaustion and isolation of long shoots) prior to the advent of intimacy coordinators are kind of drawing a ROADMAP to at LEAST emotional entanglement unless your director and actors etc are all already The Most Emotionally-Stable-and-Healthy-and-Aware-People-in-Existence who can compartmentalize and rationalize this stuff all on their own before real damage is done.

I'm pretty sure I've watched that Polin love scene at least 20 times by now! Nicola and Luke's expressions and chemistry really sold it. Some of my fav moments from that scene: 1. Pen's reaction to seeing Colin in all his glory 2. Colin's expression and nod after Pen asks "Is there more?" 3. Pen's reaction when Colin finally "inserts himself" (Where, indeed?!) 4. Colin frequently asking her if she's alright 5. Their climax 6. Maybe 10 more minutes I could go on but I loved it and I'm glad I can return to it

1:52 I think I become more and more like forgiving of Penelope's actions the more times I watch this back half. Because as calling realizes when he goes back to reading all her letters and really thinking about how they communicated before they got into this fight and now this weird romantic transitioning place....... Nobody's actions were innately wrong here. Eloise was right in what she said, but she's wrong in thinking that Colin doesn't understand that Penelope is Lady Whistledown. He may not know it explicitly. But that voice, he's heard it his whole life in a way that no one else seems to have been hearing it. He was probably the first person to ever know lady whistledown. But then she started a gossip column, becoming something separate from his idea of Penelope, and that in itself adds unpleasant drama. But he still loves her. Colin knows exactly who she is, way better than Eloise can ever claim to have known Penelope. Colin is her actual best friend. You are just her longest oldest deepest friendship. It's a lot, but it's not necessarily the best POV to be judging from.

I bet more than once they would have done this at social gatherings he loves to do this with her at social gatherings his let’s gallop along after lord basilios rapid exit because his horse died. Dark humor if there ever was one. He jokes with her like this because he knows she’s a kindred spirit they have this in common and he knows because of her letters he knows her true voice. Once he went back to the letter he put two and two together he fell in love with her thru her letter and the voice in those letter was whistledown like pen said she is whistledown she always has been. Clever and witty people keep talking about her writing badly about people she loves but I want ask when was anything she wrote about a lie. She never made up anything she wrote everything she wrote exactly as it happened. People keep saying what she did to marina was wrong. Excuse me but what marina was doing was wrong when has telling the truth been wrong and lying been right are we on upside down day here. Colin getting schemed on to fathers a child that wasn’t his he was the victim not marina she slept with the man of her own volition just like pen did with Colin. She wanted Colin to take the responsibility of her mistake. And Eloise I am sorry but she is way too self centered and entitled. You are telling you could get your head out your on butt long enough to notice your best friend was in love with your brother all this time what kind of best friend are you girl was blushing every time Colin walked with a mile of her. She does the same thing to Cressida. Eloise just doesn’t know how to be a friend for her friends are just her sounding boards she talks and talks never once listens. Eloise said pen and her had promised to be spinsters together when season 1 pen tells her straight out she can’t do that as her family situation is different than Eloise’s. Did she ever actually listen to pen at all. I almost wish pen had not written that about Eloise last season so Eloise would have had to figure out herself how to get out of the situation she got In with the queen on her own. But then pen would have gotten slack for not getting Eloise out of dodge with the queen since she is whistledown. You doomed if you do doomed if you don’t really. I always ask myself where would the bridgertons be without whistledown. Daphne would be married to Nigel because she would not have brought to light his scandal. Colin would be in a loveless marriage with marina fathering a child that was not his and Eloise would be at the queens mercy with no way out. I like that pen takes accountability for the things she has done this season but I don’t lie to myself thinking that she didn’t actually save all their behinds every season. How does the queen actually figure out that someone in the bridgertons is whistledown because she can see that they are the one family that has been saved by whistledown on more than one occasion. Whistledowns first issue proclaimed Daphne as the seasons Diamond her preference for them showed up In the first issue she trashed her family and exalted the bridgertons obviously she was angry at her mom for forcing her to debut early. She always chooses to save them even at the cost of her own families reputation. She could have ruined her and her sister’s prospects because the marina scandal basically thru shade on her own family. For her saving Colin was more important than getting herself out of her family house by marrying.

love pen and Colin's relationship- they have the strongest most realistic relationship I have seen so far and I love it- they pick up when something is wrong with the other, Colin gives her space to tell when she is ready. I love that when they talk outside of the modiste he is actively listening- he asks her questions, he doesn't yell at her, he stays calm, he doesn't run away, and she genuinely answers them - it's clear it's more about his jealousy and his fear for her safety then her actually being whistledown. When he said that she entrapped him he clearly said that out of pain and anger because she didn't entrap him- he is the one who initiated sex, she repeatedly gives him an out and he doesn't take it because he knows deep down that she didn't do that he is just deeply hurt that she kept that a secret and he loves her and wants to marry her. it's obvious how much he wants to be physically intimate with her but is holding back because he is still processing all of this new information which I love- when he opens the door and she is standing there and you see him almost go in and kiss her but he restrains himself even though he wants to because he is not ready. He deeply loves her and for him to have sex with her when they are not in a good place isn't fair to her or him- so by not having sex he is respecting both of them. The first show runner also said that Colin is supposed to be demisexual so him not wanting to have sex when the are not in a good space makes sense- he feels disconnected to her and not having sex with her because he is still processing so much new information and feels emotionally separated from her at the moment makes complete sense. It has been ingrained in him that it is a mans job to provide for and protect his wife, so when she says she can take care of herself and he says then what good am I to you, you can feel the pain, pen is independent and doesn't need him in that way, she just needs him for him and it takes some time for him to accept the role reversal. I love how the letters help him reconnect with pen because he can tell he is losing her- they also help him realize he has always known both sides of her- LW was her in the letters they were never separate people- she was always LW- and he has always known that person and has always loved that person! I loved season 3- the culmination of a 10 yr relationship and 3 yrs of unconventional courting all coming together to show a beautiful, realistic, romantic, intimate relationship come to fruition! Those 10 yrs of friendship is still a part of their romantic relationship- when friendship transitions to romantic all those yrs of friendship don't suddenly become separated from it, like it's a completely different relationship- it now being romantic- the romantic just gets added on, I know a lot of people were frustrated with there being very little intimacy, but there was a ton of intimacy- it just wasn't sexual intimacy- There was an insane amount of emotional intimacy as well as many other forms of intimacy.

The thing about Eloise is that, though you're right- she has a point in insisting Colin be told the truth, she goes about it in the worst (and pettiest) possible way because she's so myopic in her own viewpoint. Making her deadline in the middle of the party doesn't serve anyone but her. It only ensures that it will be a disaster in one way or another- whether simply from causing Pen to have a panic attack, or her succeeding in telling him, in which case he then has to either bottle up his reaction or make a huge scene. Then being so petty as to make that toast in front of everyone when it's not possible that Pen could have found a moment to tell him yet. And then being so bent on her arbitrary deadline that she goes to Colin to tell him at the stroke of midnight, despite the fact that Penelope is literally hyperventilating in front of her. She literally can't see anything beyond her personal view of the situation, and it's so frustrating. She's hyper aware of Penelope's wrongdoing, but completely oblivious to her own.

This will be my first time watching the YT reaction before the Patreon reaction wow. I had a tough week with my chronic illness, so I haven't had a chance to watch it yet, but I'm excited to finally get around to it, especially because this is one of my favorite episodes of the season! Back to my bullet points! -- That Cheese Man has always been and will always be my hero (sorry Hero Colin). I find it hilarious that Pen's family finds out about her engagement through Whistledown and once again, Albion Finch is Pen's number one cheerleader, he's the best 👏👏 -- Daria, you're reaction to seeing Kanthony on screen is always pure gold -- Anthony is so furious that Colin stole his thunder it's hilarious to me 😂 -- OUR Bridgerton name, I died in that moment. I was gone. That was soooo much better than the book Colin's confrontation with Portia. That was a wishlist moment for me, as I was rereading RMB to get through the wait for S3, I was saying, Colin's confrontation with Portia is too generic in the books, anybody could've come up with that speech, I needed that speech to be something that only Colin could/would say to Portia and the show did that -- The way Luke and Nicola have talked about how they eventually got so comfortable during the intimate scenes and the crew would be like, "Do you want get up" and they were like, "No we're fine, we're comfy" ....It's like they did not care whether I survived the press tour or not. I was unwell the entire time, but also I miss the promo rollout sm, their friendship is so sweet 🥹😭 All this to say, the mirror scene was perfect. I'm so glad we got it and it was just so tender and sweet and he was always checking in with her and I just love them sm, I've run out of words lol, all I have left in me is 🥹🥹🥹 -- Simone looks so beautiful in navy blue (she looks beautiful always, I just had have a moment of appreciation for the navy blue) -- The "You're my mess" line was top of my book quotes wishlist, tbh it was the only one I really needed -- Colin's toast is so sweet, I loved him calling back to the moment they met. Luke and Nicola really wanted the flashback to how they met too, it is sad we didn't get to see it. Especially bc they are the friends to lovers trope, they've known each other for so long, it would've been nice to see more of them when they were younger. More moments of Pen appreciating his kindness, more moments of Colin enjoying her sense of humor and like seeking her out -- Anthony being Joey Tribbiani in charades is the best thing ever and I love that the first flower he thinks of is lilies 🥹 -- Pen doesn't tell Colin she loves him too in this episode, so he's so insecure throughout this whole ep that it's just him who has such strong feelings and it's heartbreaking bc we've known this whole time that she does and this sweet little dummy just isn't sure his feelings are requited. First he's like, "Do you not like the house? Are you uncomfortable with us being alone?" and then later he's like, "I understand if you just got swept up in the moment in the carriage and if you don't want to get married anymore, I'll understand." Ugh, it kills me AND he still doesn't know she's Whistledown on top of all of that and I think that's why she's struggled to say the words this episode bc she's also grappling with how tf she's going to tell him about LW -- Poor Anthony's thunder got stolen AGAIN by Cressida (also even if she hadn't, she'd still have made Polin's engagement night about her so boo hiss) This was one of my more reasonable length comments, I'm proud of myself. Having said that, I did learn today that KZbin does have a limit to how long a comment can be...the Polin podcast I listen to release their reactions to part 2, and I ended up leaving a two-part comment on that lmao, so it's probably a good thing you do these one episode at a time. Okay, I'm gonna go watch the full length reaction on Patreon, we'll see if I have more thoughts after that lol

dude, like ppl have been pointing out: In 24 HOURS, Pen: 1) was about to become engaged to someone else & thus finally having her freedom from her family 2) was about to have her life potentially ruined by Colin destroying that proposal 3) had the love of her LIFE confess his feelings to her 4) went to 3rd (?) base with said love of her life (even Daphne at least self-experimented before her wedding night) 5) got engaged & had it announced to the entire ton overnight 6) finally had someone stand up for her to her family, proclaiming she has always been special & amazing 7) got pregnant I'm not a fan of production teams/members giving info that isn't explicitly or even implicitly on-screen because that's really not how media works, but I'll take #7 just to add to the fun!

@@GotLostOnMyWay i saw another youtuber say that they didn't like the Dutch angles at the beginning because that technique is usually used to mean disorientation in a negative way (ie, dread) and yes, totally get it but.....so much is happening so fast that Pen actually being scared is not that unbelievable. My own engagement had a shroud of dread given the circumstances at the time and i was scared to tell my parents even tho we had been dating 6 YEARS and he practically slept over at our house (my parents live with me) on the weekends. Yes, Pen is getting everything she ever wanted and ***we*** know Colin's intentions are good and all but she could easily believe none of this real!

Whatever issues I may have for this season... they did Polin justice. I'd say this mirror scene tops Daphne and Simon's scenes at their best. I feel like the writers did such a disservice not showing any flashbacks of Polin's early relationship, we are merely told about their connection. And I also do agree that the standout relationship of this season is Penn and Eloise, which is why I'm still salty that Penn's big apology wasn't specifically for Eloise.

It's funny how everybody gets unhinged the moment Colin pulls the hairclip, the transition to the physical that tells us it was all about to get real. The mirror scene was amazing, totally mind-blowing and wonderful. I definitely felt like I shouldn't be watching! What really struck me about the scene, is that we got to see how the mirror scene really culminated all that had been on his mind for those weeks ever since they kissed. He'd been dreaming for weeks about it would be like to be with Penelope, how he wanted to seduce her. 🙃🙃🙃

I think Lady Whistledown represents the negative emotions she can't say outright because of her status & being a woman. Any bad thought she's had, she'd just publish it without really thinking things through. As she matures & regrets what she's said Whistledown changes. Like Whistledown talking about the diamond concept being degrading after she had conversations with Eloise. I do like the parallel's they drew between Eloise holding that ultimatum & Pen's ultimatum to Marina.

(Given how much Jessica featured in promo cast stuff for S3 I feel like we cannot possibly have seen the last of Cressida and with S3 ending as it does we still need a conflict antagonist in S4 and I WANT IT TO BE HER.) (Also RIP Lord Debling he can go sit with the Prince for the discarded rival suitors that up and disappear completely from the narrative after failing to make it over the finish-line with the leading lady and yet somehow they never think to switch focus back to Cressida as a second option when it's clear they're hunting for A Match in general and had SOME vague interest in Cressida beforehand.)

I had the exact same reaction when Kanthony appeared on screen again. Eeek! I love them. I'm enjoying Polin, but to be honest, not the Whistledown drama. I hate it when we get the heroine who is so close to getting what she has wanted the entire time we as an audience have known her, only to have it be snatched away. I mean, girl passed out at her own engagement party. Boo. I don't like it.
