As a healthcare worker who works exclusively with dementia patients I have to say you're not wrong. I'd be carefull with speculating about potential mental health issues but I have to say that it feels to me like there is something most definitely not right with that lady. It has got noticeably worse since 2016. I diots feeling emboldened is basically Dunning Krueger made manifest. I was watching a favourite KZbinr and he was in A merica the other month and he and his other half couldn't spend a normal day shopping together because every single day multiple incidents would occur. Some dude screamed f*ck off repeatedly in his and his girlfriend's faces, he and her were almost assaulted multiple times, etc. etc. the whole thing was meant to be recorded as part of a video blog showing the trip and the reason why they were there, but they could barely show any footage at all as it was punctuated consistently with events like that. On more than one occasion the blog just turned into them showing themselves in the sanctuary of their hotel room as they were getting so d epressed from all the unpleasantness. It was wild. And they were a male and female white couple to give you an idea! From the end of it I got the feeling they're not going back to the U S anytime soon. You could see it from their expressions and the way they were talking it was getting worse and worse. I genuinely felt sorry for them as it looked mentally exhausting. And they don't have the best mental health anyhow, but man even I would have just f*cking left. Its like all of the morons got emboldened. And it wasn't because of the camera either, it happened to them a much as if they were filming as they weren't. Many instances they were like; "I was going to take a shot of X but I couldn't as before I could get my camera out some dude did X. So that just completely put me off doing that." Literally ruined what was supposed to be a simple few days break. I would have been incandescent having spent all that money getting there.

The reason why conservative comedy sucks is not even an issue of politics. You can make irreverent and even insulting jokes that land funny, even to those being insulted. The first episode in the 2019 Twilight Zone series was an episode called The Comedian. The main character was a guy who threw out political jokes for a laugh, but he kept striking out, until he started giving out jokes about people he knew. Also, the people he mentioned would become nonexistent. Desperate to keep up the cheers and hyped up on his power, he began to attack on stage anyone who ever annoyed him and at his lowest point, even threw out random names. He would get cheers and applause no matter what he said, running himself ragged until he threw HIMSELF into oblivion. Comedy is clearly a business where you give a piece of yourself and your life into the world. But you can't just unleash your rage and throw away your good rep and relationships just to keep people laughing at you. You end up a shell. Like Linehan or Roseanne Barr.

I was a huge Owen Benjamin fan until about 2018ish, when he went down this transphobic rabbithole that led him to his current Nazi-ish state. He once did an hour comedy special called "High Five Til It Hurts" and it's really really good! I even met him when he did a tour in my town (he was briefly on a sitcom with Steve Byrne and Roy Wood Jr, and they did a tour in support of it). Yeah his stuff was just mostly dumb "bro" humor but it was good natured and fun. He's actually a smart guy, his parents are college professors and he went to college too (I guess the LIBERAL BRAINWASHING didn't work?). He also plays piano and he's pretty good at it. Moving along though.... around 2018 or so he started the "just asking questions" shtick and started making gross transphobic jokes. When called out for it, he doubled down. So of course he got demonetized and kicked off social media. This apparently screwed him over, so he eventually posted a whole sob story about how his life was ruined for telling it like it is or whatever. He had just gotten married and they had just had a kid. Then he started showing up on right-wing media and even did a vid where he defended Hitler - something along the lines of "no, Hitler didn't want to wipe out the (rhymes with "news"), you see, he just wanted to make Germany clean again because it was dirty...". I wish I was kidding about that, but he really did it, the video exists. So anyway... here we are. A guy I used to like and respect is now... Nazi grifter guy. But that's what he's talking about when he says THEY TRIED TO CANCEL ME.

Have you ever seen an older relative who changed after having a stroke? That's what Roseanne's comedy special felt like. Someone who, after surving a stroke, sees drastic changes in their thinking and the destruction of their filter. It's like seeing grandpa tell the grandkids to go fuck themselves during Christmas dinner because he's just always mean and lashing out at everything and everyone all the time since he got out of the hospital. It's really sad, and it feels really gross that she's getting sent out on stage instead of to therapy or something.

When I was in middle school, I started riding the city bus. I encountered a few low-grade creeps there. Sometimes I would strike up a conversation with a stranger, to avoid a conversation with a creepier stranger. I had many conversations with lonely grandmothers. Some of these conversations were quite weird. Once, I asked if a woman had done anything special for the holidays, and she told me that they had a smaller gathering than usual, because her son-in-law had a neo-nazi tattoo, and her other daughter didn't want her kids to meet him. She said it like the daughter was being unreasonable for keeping the kids at home. I guess my point is, that's who Roseanne Barr reminds me of. A lonely grandmother, ranting about nothing to a random thirteen year old on the bus.

And sometimes a cheer might take the form of a laugh, but it's not any different in its intent. So that's why there are no jokes. There are just ideological signals to the crowd to validate their pre-existing beliefs. Conservative "comedy" is about checking in-group status while policing and enforcing the out-group status of their ideological enemies.
