I first watched MISSOURI BREAKS when it came out in 1976, attracted by the great actors: Brando had won his second best actor Oscar four years earlier with THE GODFATHER, Nicholson had won his first Oscar with ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST the year before. I did not like the film then. However, yesterday I watched it for the third time, and I've enjoyed immensely the quality of the acting, not just by the leads, but by character actors like Harry Dean Stanton, John McLiam, and others as well. The ending is unnecessarily tepid but it does not diminish the undeniable quality of the film, which also boasts a quirky score that seems to me to be a little bit off the beaten road for John Williams. I like it! Thanks for sharing!

I think Arthur Penn just said to Williams, "Reivers. Gimmie The Reivers."

a very unusual jw score, much more sparse than his typical style. but i like! does anyone else hear horner's 48 hrs theme in this score's main theme? and some of those piano riffs near the end remind me of goldsmith.
