Some drummers "hit" the drums. Some drummers "play" them. Thank you Steven for the time you're putting into these awesome videos. ✌️😎

I know I needed to know how to get more comfort from my left hand more specifically. I needed the "torso-twist". I never knew it was a good idea to turn the shoulders to face the drum being hit. Thanks once again Stephen, I'm proud to be a non-glamorous drummer😁

I've only been doing worship drumming for about 9 months now, but been drumming for many years, off & on. These lessons have been & are very helpful, thanks very much.

Luv ya, Babe! 😁😘 Serious, this is exactly what I need right now. I stopped the video at Minute 7:00. 🥶Spooky: Today, I was practicing Song#3 again (song and fills in a loop, bpm 158) and I noticed hours ago, that my left hand is twisting the same way as you demonstrated it (therefore the stick is moving more diagonale than pure vertical). HighEnd! 🥳 I got this kind of problem (speeding over Toms in a linear way with more than two single strokes) for a long, long time (in a country far, far away). Always putting effort in the wrist and elbow, but never ever considered my shoulder/upperbody-movement/position. Now, this routine will become my daily routine, you can bet on that! THANKS IN ADVANCE & wish you the best! My Hero... (If anythin sounds funny, I'm an non-english-native from Germany, so there is no deeper hidden meaning in my lines 😁😉)

Thanks Stephen, I play 3 up 2 down, as well as a side snare ,and this was good info to be aware of. Luckily I am blessed with custom dress shirt needed monkey arms, but being conscious to twist a bit, definitely decreases some tension on faster fills around my home kit. If i ever break the barrier at my home Church,and get to play regularly, they have a less like Neil kit that would be even more comfortable. Thanks again.

Awesome video, I've been playing for many years but still have some bad habits when it comes to smoothly moving around the kit with certain fills and breaking the movement down this way is a really helpful way to approach that.

Artificial rebound is still my nemesis - but I'm getting better thanks to that lesson that you mentioned.

So appreciate the simple, pragmatic observations about mechanics and positioning. Just tweaking the angle of the bass can make a big difference in comfort and fluidity. Thank you!

Always switch up your positioning. Just when you think you got it down, there's always another way that'll help you play better. Keep experimenting!

I play double kick and I use my heel to operate the hi-hat pedal. I used to switch from one to the other and it was very difficult to do with your toes, so I ultimately ended up using my heel and toes for both. Just a simple example to help you out

A timely lesson for a fellow church drummer. My reason for being here is to build confidence. A needed lesson, for myself, would be to improve my ability to create the thundering rolls on the floor toms that are used in many of the songs we play at church. As mentioned in this lesson, the floor toms don’t provide much rebound. Add the mallets, and trying to, at the same, time play quietly?? Help! And thanks!

Hi Stephen brilliant tutorial, my problem is i start playing great well sort of but after about 5 minutes my forearms start to seize up and my flow just goes all to-pot and this happens all the time for nearly 2 years i have been playing, i have tried breathing and relaxing techniques but nothing seems to work.
@benking9160
@benking9160 Жыл бұрын
It's more than likely a technique issue. To seize up after 5 minutes you must be doing something wrong. I would suggest focusing on your grip and using your wrist and fingers more, trying to ALWAYS STAY RELAXED! There are many tutorials on KZbin.

New to drumming, may be silly to ask, but if you had the means would it be beneficial to have one floor tom on each side (same size, different size, tuned same, different, whatever)??

Really enjoy this and your other videos. I'm just getting started and have a basic question that really seems to be effecting me. So here goes... I'm a lefty that plays righty. I have tried playing lefty but just can't get the hang of it. So I set my kit up as a righty but when it comes to walk around the kit I tend to start with my left hand making things awkward. I try to practice (singles in particular) leading with my right but it feels awkward. If i do a roll with out "thinking" about it, I always start with my left. Got any tricks? Is it just a matter of practice practice practice with a right hand lead until I train the "left" out of me? Thanks for the time.
