So I also watched the video and read through the comments. The video is about mix ratio for mortar, to be used for block laying. We can also consider mortar for plastering later. Mortar for block laying is different from mortar for plastering. One of the factors considered during any design (including mix design) is cost (minimising waste). Apparently, the strength of the mix is also dependent on the quality of the sand being used. We also need to look at the grade of cement (for block laying, you can use 32.5 or 42.5). All these affect the strength of the mix, of course, quality and volume of water is also critical. In summary, one can use 1. Maximum of 1:4 mix for plastering 2. Maximum of 1:6mix for block laying Depending on site conditions

I'm here in the Philippines and the amount of mortar wasted in joints is excessive. They mix the mortar weak at 6:1 then make the joints 2" thick in some places and sloppy excessive mortar outside the blocks. They don't remove excess mortar over running outside the joint nor strike off the mortar. 😢 They can save a lot of money if they would just make proper joints with 4:1 ratio mortar and proper construction, but they are in a competition for the ugliest wall with the maximum amount of weak mortar wasted. 😂

@@KumbukTV type N is 1part cement, 1 part lime, 6 parts sand. Not to be used for load bearing walls. Type S is 2 parts cement, 1 part lime, 7 to 9 parts sand. For load bearing walls.

The ratio is weak. And the quality of the sand is not good, we can see it almost all of it is coarse sand and it doesn't contain the fine sand. That will cause blinding of water as it's obvious.

You displayed how many parts of sand but you never displayed how many parts of cement, no one can follow this tutorial or video without the cement ratio and also you are laying the bricks all wrong and you are meant to make dips with the end of the trowel go8ng vertically along the cement to stop it from leaking out the sides but you did it sideways, wrong way round and why on earth did you not put cement on the side of the brick before laying it, at 3:20 you should put cement on the side of the brick so it seals that gap, 😡. That is not how you put cement into the gap, you did it all wrong.
