Listening to this, i can tell what happened to bryan is what happened to many other producer's and that sucks! Notice, he didn't have anything negative to say about Michael and he also didnt worship michael. Meaning, he had a REAL LIFE view of THE BUSINESS. Bryan is an awesome producer and his reputation preceded him! If you put him down without knowing his work prior to Michael, get educated first, remember his words on unfinished/unmixed demos, then speak. Hopefully Bryan will be given his due.

I am sorry that Bryan's experience with MJ wasn't all he had hoped it to be. It's good that the credits to certain songs for which there was much confusion in the fan community were clarified. I'm not sure what exactly it is that Mr.Loren holds against MJ. That he did not work for other artists while working with him? I know MJ asked for exclusivity. I am glad that Mr.Loren had the class not to go and make a song like "Word to the Badd" like LA Reid and co. whose work also did not make it to the Dangerous album. And they had left Jermaine hanging to work with Michael! I think these are petty workplace politics and do not tarnish or reflect on MJ's legacy in anyway. MJ was inspired by Walt Disney who made animators compete with each other to come up with their best work. MJ and Rod Temperton did that with Off the Wall and Thriller. He believed it motivated the team to maximise the quality of their work and push themselves to go beyond. Maybe while trying it with other writers/producers in "Dangerous" for the first time, he neglected to take into account the egos and how cut throat the competition was? Since it had gone well for him and Rod in the past? Surely Bryan wasn't the only producer whose songs didn't make it. Loren at least got "Do the Bartman", which only happened coz the Simpsons wanted MJ to do a song, and he gave Bryan the opportunity and gave him all the credit, he took no credit for it. Superfly sister too made it on BOTDF. That's more that can be said for other producers like LA Reid. It's really unfortunate his songs leaked.. very unfair to him. Who knows how they would've sounded finished and if Michael would've ever wanted to release them at all. But at least, because of the leaks, we know he worked with Michael and the MJ fan community knows his name and looks forward to his future work. Honestly the songs sound very similar to each other.. In fact, I thought She got it evolved into Superfly sister. Except Satisy you which sounds like a Boyz II Men ballad. I know that with Dangerous, MJ did not want to repeat what he had done before, and he had done Funk and R&B before in Bad and Off the Wall. He was inspired by Janet's Rhythm Nation album and wanted to go in that direction. The debate about what's inspiration and what's stealing rages on. OF COURSE Michael was inspired by EVERYTHING around him. Given that TWYMMF was finished before the other song was released, and the finished songs sound completely different, even the ones Quincy mentioned, I wouldn't call it stealing. If anything I would say "You are not alone" plagiarised the melody. But R Kelly wrote that song. It wasn't Michael's fault. I think Mr.Lorens work is great and I wish him success with his future record.. hopefully he works with other artists and gets huge hits. Even Justin Timberlake's mega successful Justified album was songs MJ chose not to do. Maybe they were meant for another artist and they had the potential to change the destiny of that artist and make them a star whereas they wouldn't have had that impact with MJ since he was already a superstar. Wishing him success. The music industry could really use some "MJ sound" :) PS: I really wish there was more ways to compensate artists than just royalties coz Art is precious and it shouldn't be so difficult for Artists. I feel it's unfair that record companies make all the decisions and earn more than those actual artists making the art. As a society we need to do better and take better care of the creators of art coz creativity and talent is a rare and precious gift from God and should not be undervalued.

You are not sure what he holds against MJ? Just imagine working for _several years_ on a project for someone and in the end you don't receive anything for all your work! Wouldn't that make you AT LEAST very frustrated? I can completely understand Bryan and I am absolutely going to donate to him for his contribution on those great tracks!
@globalcitizenn
@globalcitizenn 6 жыл бұрын
I think my comment made it pretty clear I understand and sympathise his frustration. Of course it's frustrating. I understand the regret of having spent so much time on something that did not come to fruition. What I'm wondering is wasn't the deal known in the beginning, that you have to spend all this time exclusively and your songs might not make it or did MJ lead the producers on with false promises? Did he not pay what was owed? Skip out on payment? Betray a promise? Did MJ know about the Bill Botrell and the Black or White rap? I'm asking coz I don't know.

flamyyy You DO realize he was payed for studio time, right? His works weren't included on the final tracklist, but it's not as if he was doing everything completely free. There's a lot of salt mixed in here with perhaps some truth thrown in as well. What IS factually not right is the leaking of his songs and people listening to them at their leisure without anything being given to him. I'm 100% for rightful ownership of songs and royalties being given to songwriters to deserve them, so I'll give him that. Aside from that, the way he went about this interview was very unprofessional. There's points where he just answers genuine and thoughtful questions without outright sarcasm and rudeness. I'm glad he agreed to do it, but his tone here was unnecessary.

Although Bryan is obviously a talented musician and lyricist, let's be honest, all of the songs he did with Michael sounded awful, minus probably Superfly Sister and Serious Effect! Had Michael finished the album with him, Dangerous would've bombed, and his material was much more akin to something that NKOTB would release. Also, from listening to what Bryan said, it's just business; Michael obviously could hear that the songs weren't going in the direction that he wanted, and because Bryan was (kind of) friends with Michael, he felt hurt when Michael didn't use any of his material. This must happen a million times a day in the music biz, so I don't really feel that sorry for Bryan tbh. Michael was a business brand at the time and would always have to make ruthless business decisions, so Bryan fell victim to this side of Michael and the music business. It's the most ruthless business of the arts, so Bryan is one of hundreds of thousands of people who have been picked up and dropped. Sad but true. Michael is always portrayed as being nice all the time, but you don't become the biggest selling artist of all time by being nice 24/7.

great interview. I thought Bryan was honest, brutal as that could be sometimes; In comparison to the Brad Buxer interview, which left me cold. Brad and Bryan paint two different pictures of their time with MJ. If I were to pick, I would pick Bryan's over Brad's because Brad basically throws MJ under the bus. I loved how it ended the interview with how MJ should be remembered. It was excellent and very telling and truthful.

@mjresource5186
@mjresource5186 3 жыл бұрын
I literally got the exact opposite impression. How do you know something was truthful or not? You weren‘t there. Just because he‘s clearly bitter and negative about his time with MJ does not automatically mean he‘s more truthful. Now, I‘m not saying he‘s lying or anything. I‘m saying that there is a tendency with some MJ fans to just immediately believe any negative thing someone says because hey, they don‘t worship Michael so clearly they‘re telling the truth. That‘s not necessarily the case. Certainly he absolutely deserves to be compensated for the leaked songs and I feel very bad for him. But his other accusations, that MJ and his teams pretty much stole parts of his work are just that, unproven accusations. Not saying he‘s lying. But we also don‘t know. Because none of us were there.

I don’t think it’s necessarily fair to say other songs were better for 2 reasons. One is that we have only heard a few tracks of the session when there’s around 20 in total, and two is they just weren’t finished so we don’t know what they would’ve sounded like finished. It’s unfair to compare Bryan’s tracks to the finished and polished tracks that made the cut

No offense to Bryan, but I can totally understand why Michael did not include any of his tracks on Dangerous. The stuff I have heard of his intended for Dangerous all seemed very generic dated R&B without any edge whatsoever. Teddy's stuff slammed and was light years ahead of Bryan. Notice that Teddy was one of the biggest producers of the 90s but I have no idea what Bryan produced other than the Shanice album. So happy MJ found Teddy where magic was made!

Thank you for the work you do with those amazing podcasts! It’s professional and important for Michael’s legacy. With that said, I find it difficult to appreciate mr Loren, he sounds a bit bitter, and couldn’t except the fact that Michael probably looked for different sounds and styles. And what bothers me the most is the fact that he hints Michael stole songs, and that he manipulated the people around him (and the world!) during this is it! I mean, Michael died! And in an unnecessary, tragic, sad way, that could have been prevented if he had people around that really took care of him! Maybe he is right about Michael being in control and did what he wanted to do, but that was before the horrible trial. We all know, and everyone around him knew and tell to this day Michael wasn’t the same after the trial. It’s a fact, he was a broken man, and even someone that didn’t knew him personally, can see clearly. He wasn’t the same, and the horrible “movie “ This is it (which is a disgrace and disrespect for Michael because we all know the truth about Michael mantel and physical situation and they turned it to a celebration knowing the truth just because they wanted 💵💵💵💵💵💰) we can see how Michael didn’t have the confidence and control he used to have.. it wasn’t him in his spirit. I know Karen Faye and Michael Bush said that, Brad Buxer, Bill witfilied and so many people that around and it’s obvious.. so Mr Loren says Michael was trying to victimize himself during This is it but he had a control??? That’s ridiculous! Michael died.. I believe Michael didn’t want to do the tour, didn’t like AEG and the people around him, they treated him badly and disrespectfully, they used him as a money machine without helping him, and they knew the truth! (Btw Karen Faye said last year that Randy Phillips knew about the propofol! Instead of helping him with his insomnia he threatened Michael he will tell the authorities and Michael will loose his children, and we all know that was Michael’s biggest fear..) so it saddens me the way he portrayed Michael, but then again, that was Michael’s life I guess, his unique talent was a blessing and a curse, in his life and in his death.. RIP Michael

It’s just goes to show he wasn’t even around the last years of Michael’s life, because he were, he could have noticed the change in Michael and how broken he was, so I don’t believe he knew him like he said better then Brad for example...

I gotta say, Bryan Loren comes across as rude and unprofessional at times, but I side with him in that he contributed way more than for what he's been given credit. "Who Is It" totally has Loren's thumbprint all over it as well, but he doesn't mention that here. But what has to really be deflating, on top of not being recognized for his offerings for that project, was that his OWN CD was put on hold around that same time and still remains unreleased. Prayerfully, this will serve as the avenue he needs to be noticed.
@EricSmith-jo1lt

What the Fuck you mean "thumbprint all over it"?!?! He only played drums on that track!!! That song as a WHOLE was a pure infrastructure of MICHAEL JACKSON in itself!!! Yes I get him and I agree with him when it comes to his songs and all that but first of all he came across as really rude and arogant I almost quit listening to this podcast but I was curious what else he had to say. Then when he talks about Michael being in control of everything and putting his foot down and getting what he wanted is a little bit of a stretch to me. If that was the case he would't do the Pepsi commercial and wouldn't go on Victory Tour in the first place. Then something doesn't add up about "This Is It". Based on what Kevin Dorsey revealed in his inteview it didn't look like Michael was in full control of the whole thing and made his own decisions either. Oh and the topic of who's Michael's friend and who's not and who knows Michael better when Brad Buxer's name came up... Oh please...
