@@davidgladwin4954 I don't know that. Being a Catholic like I imagine Carlo Gambino was (at least in baptism), I'll tell you what I believe. Scripture says that God provides the sinner with a way back which, to me, means sincere repentance. If Carlo sincerely repented towards the end of his life, God would forgive. The key word is sincerely. If, by some miracle, he was given ten more years of life and he would have used those years to quit the mafia life no matter what it cost him, then his repentance was sincere. But if he would have used those years to return to that life as mob boss and the practices of extortion, stealing, deception and lying, bribery, murder and all the things that God hates, then his repentance would not have been sincere. Only Carlo and God know which it was. Buy I also remember the warning of Archbishop Fulton Sheen that if someone is planning on living a dissolute life and then repenting at the end to avoid punishment, he shouldn't think that he has fooled God as to what he was up to.

@@danevertt3210 because these are reporters in 1976. They don’t have all the facts. He’s 100% talking about Galante because he was a huge name in OC back then and this was 3 years before he was killed
@bigdc2022 жыл бұрын
@@danevertt3210 Around this time, the media had less info about how the Five Families worked and was still looking for a "Boss of Bosses" type figure. That was Don Carlo, and at one point, Galante was looked at that way as well.

I love how people praise these gangsters and put them on pedestal. These people are criminals the lowest of the low and wouldn't hesitate to kill you or anyone in your family if they could make a buck lol movies and TV shows have glorified this life making these guys sympathetic figures. These people are not good guys or smart they are smart as in street smart but wouldn't stand a chance in the real world which is why they chose this life

There used to be 4 economic groups in society, not 3: poor. working class, middle class and investment class. With no access to the ports, which started with containment shipping, starting I'm the 1960's, the time clock started running out on The Mob. NY alone lost over 200, 000 jobs. Add to that the flow of goods coming not from Europe, but Asia, where there are no historical connections for Sicilian/Italians coming from the West Coast and the source of goods is no longer passing through their hands. For the two decades after WW2, everything of value was coming from Europe. That changed in the 70's.
