"Today(1986), the practice appears to be back" LMAO. It never went away in the first place. Don Cox got a beat down not long after he did this interview with NBC.

My good friends father was involved in this. He had his own “production company” And made artists become famous despite talent!

The mob didn't need to intimidate the DJ's, all they needed was rock singers that have recorded in Denmark.

you cant make people like music just because you play it but payola hurt the careers of many who didnt get airplay because dj's werent getting paid
@Sephiroth766
@Sephiroth766 2 жыл бұрын
They didn't try to make people like the music they played. Just tried to manipulate popularity to have certain artists climb the charts.

There's so many GREAT, PHENOMENAL artists we never hear of or hear on the radio. They never "made it", but should have if we're going on talent alone. Unfortunately they didn't have the right people in their corner. I'd rather make a decent living and working regularly as a dedicated studio musician than deal with all this crap. No wonder the artists get so messed up. They lose creative control of their work-that they LIVE FOR-and at that point I'd have to ask why bother continuing?

Jay Black of Jay Black and The Americans was a close friend of John Gotti..One of my favorite Dee-jays back in the day Frankie Crocker had gone to jail for a short while because of Payola. A huge and profitable racket for the mob.

I find it very strange Tommy Mottola's name never appears in docs such as this one. There is no way a powerful Italian American in the music industry avoided dealing with the Italian American mob.

Reading 'Hit Men' now. I knew this business was dirty, just not HOW dirty. Makes me not even want to listen to music anymore, if it means it supports the corruption
