The only problems I have with the mob votes are: 1. Mojang wasn't very clear on what each mob entailed with the first few votes; resulting in the Phantoms for instance. 2. This problem probably can't be helped, but I dislike how the mob vote with the "glow" squid was heavily influenced by bigger creators like Dream, pushing the vote in their favor.
@Speaker4

I definitely think that the whole “rigged” aspect was definitely a drag. But tbh idk how it could have been fixed other than big creators not being trolls. The whole “vote in Minecraft” probably helped but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Not gonna lie, the fans of losing mobs always whine about it. If it hadn't been Dream, they'd be focussing on any of the other influencers that made their opinion public. -also glow squid was the bst choice anyways lol-

@@lolglolblol the glow squid doesn’t even glow, and the video for it implied it would have a hypnotizing element it doesn’t have. Even if Dream didn’t throw his weight around, the glow squid got an unfair advantage due to false advertising. If the glow squid had those elements, then I would have no complaints. I’m not upset it won, I’m upset we were mislead. It could have been really cool, but it’s not.
@lolglolblol

@@midnamagic2678 Eh, I disagree. It was obvious that it wouldn't be adding dynamic lighting, anybody who seriously expected that, doesn't know how mojang rolls. The hypnotic effect was also strongly rumored to not be a thing in game, though I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hoping that community feedback might make it real. What I wanted from the glow squid is also what I got: A new mob, using the (imo underrated) glowing texture feature and would help make underground lakes more alive. Plus, I really didn't like the other options. I quite dislike mob variants in general, though all options were that, so I picked the one that was based on a mob that didn't already have a bunch of variants. Illagers in general aren't of interest to me and I didn't like the idea of having to deal with one when traversing a mountain, which already offers its own environmental challenges. And the Moobloom was just really stupid. Plus, adding more "cows but with x on their back" just makes Mooshrooms less special imo.

@@lolglolblol not everyone who votes is keeping tabs on community gossip or looks into things too deeply. They look at what we are told and make a decision based on that. Not everyone has Reddit, Tumblr, Twitter, or any other platform where it would be talked about. These things need to be stated plainly with no room for misinterpretation. I’m personally a Moobloom>iceologer>glow squid. I voted Moobloom the first round. And had I been able to vote during the second round I would have decided The iceologer (which was given a better name by CaptainSparklez, “Chilliger”) But that was because I was privy and paying attention to news and knew that what was implied in the video about the glow squid was false, and made my choices accordingly. If I hadn’t known, and only had the videos to go off of, then the Glow Squid may have been my top vote.

The current problem with the votes now is that there are now potentially 9 mobs (this includes the 2 potential losers for this update), 3 features (From the Biome Votes), and 3 Biomes (From the Biome Votes), that are pending for an update, with 2 of those mobs, 2 features, and 2 Biomes not implemented yet for 5 Years as of typing this. And the only one that had been updated since losing to the vote was the Swamp Biome, its feature (Boat with Chest), and Frogs, which was 4 Years ago. If they keep doing more new sets of votes, there would be way too many ideas for them to try implementing selectively. They should stop making new vote sets and just focus on the loser vote sets until there's nothing or not much of the idea pile to be done. The only way for them to keep doing new vote sets without piling up the ideas from the old votes is that they have to use at least 2 of these in the next update. That way, you have a net 0 of unimplemented features piling, 2 old losers are implemented and 2 new losers placed in the pile.

I'm so glad someone finally adressed this in video, it's been exhausting to see people in the community, most of which dont even play the game, complaining about something they have no idea of how it works. Like seeing people complain that a old school clock someone made is bad and easy to make without knowing how the gears turn. When it comes to community votes, i think they are truly great things, for the reasons you listed and also because we get a glimpse of what may come The main problem is with how the community tends to overhype and overthink about how the mobs work, only to create expectations that are too tall to reach. Take the phantom for example, people hate it for doing exactly what they voted for, it's a flying enemy that spawns in the sky if dont sleep for 3 days, during development, with the feedback from the community, it became undead (as in its earlier iterations, it was supposed to be end related and spawn in the end islands as well) and started to gradually spawn in greater quantities as more nights were spent without sleep, and it gained its own unique drop. Though i agree that the phantom membrane could have a few more uses, since the two it currently has are not the best, i think it is still the best choice among the og vote mobs

My issue with them saying “we’ll add it at a later time” or “when the time is right” is that why didn’t the king blaze or whatever it’s called not come out in the nether update or why the sea monster not come out in the aquatic update. Those are arguably the perfect time to release those mobs. Many people believe those mobs won’t ever be added because of situations like that.

Just so you know there are separate dev teams for Java and Bedrock, with very little overlap. The team incharge of bedrock does not care about fixing many issues, and Java comes first. With the mod section, a lot of the newest mobs and other things have been poorly iterated ports of the mods that the modders they hired had done. Almost all peaceful mobs since horses, has been diretly pulled for Dr Zarks Mo Creatures since he works there. How do we know they are almost directly pulled and usually made worse, simple, there are many lines of code that are identical and even include the old notes that were previously made. All meaning it was copy and pasted, then minor changes were added. The true reason they are slow to add things is mainly due to profits, you take time to release new updates it keeps bringing people back keeping the game alive longer so more people can keep buying it, thus they can make more profit. Also if they made huge updates regularly it would constant cause divide with the community on those who do not like the change. However I still feel like they should add more than they do.

i feel like the current uproar is due more to the updates of the past being either minor improvement and features in quick succession (as a smaller team) to 3 pretty much overhaul updates that took time. the issue with the mob vote now (or always was) that the mobs underdeliver. maybe its due to unobtainable amounts of hype. the first mob vote was a spark of curiosity. what to expect of these FOUR mobs we can pick. phantom. thats what we got. we cant stay up at night anymore. woops. it seemed like what should have won was "The Monster of the Ocean Depths" since it was for the aquatic update. mob vote 2 was robbed by a certain minecraft content creator, so we can only ever wonder what either mob could have been. the glow squid added something that was doable more or less through commands, but made survival friendly. i do feel that it underdelivered feature-wise, but the caves and cliffs was so massive it was incomplete until the next major version, so i get it. mob vote 3 was interesting. tese 3 could have had a massive impact on the direction the game took. copper golem could have been also a redstone update, and added copper or iron cogs from early minecraft for vertical redstone. the glare could have meant further changes to caves, darkness and hostile mobs. the mob itself seemed uninteresting, admittedly. mob vote 3 was a nosedive imo. the three mobs were actually pitted super unfairly because there seemed to be an extremely obvious choice. a cave hide and seek mob for some loot, useful early game if anything. a sentient item frame. and the sniffer. an ancient mob that also adds new plants, trails and tales finally adding archaeology, it really felt like the perfect synergy, and boy did mojang under delivered there completely. the sniffer isn't great, and by extension, neither are the plants added by it. this year's mob vote feels really small on comparison. we dont know what this update holds or what it adds/changes besides the trading changes. but the mobs dont feel they add enough. each feels like a nice addition if youre making a zoo/aquarium. the armadillo has steep shoes to fill to not feel like they could have reworked horse armor to be "animal armor." will there be customization? will the armor be enchantable, upgradeable, dyeable, and/or trimmable? wolves could simply have gotten a rework to go into a "downed" state like the axolotls. or hold a totem in its mouth like foxes. crabs feel kind of unique, but it also seemingly adds not much. the claw has to do a lil bit more. penguins are decorative like bats, dolphin's grace for boats, and a cute addition to a BLAND biome. some things that 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘣𝘦 in the game: - polished tuff and calcite - stair, slab, and walls for tuff, calcite, and basalt. - possibly stone brick versions of other stone types - azalea wood, and it's plank stairs, slabs, fences, doors, trap doors, buttons - an fps fixing update for java players that makes the game feel like it does with sodium and it's addon mods, or optifine - an overhaul of dated mechanics, like "too expensive" anvils

ALL OF THAT SAID: these are only opinions and frustrations. Having pumped an almost embarrassing amount of hours in this game, id like it to feel a certain way. I paid its asking price for multiple platforms and for friends and family. I will still be playing this game for years, i hope. Its fun, stress relieving, and a great creative outlet. For ~$20 i get free updates, and a massive community? SICK

@@jasongarmendez3997 The devs cannot add sodium to the game since it's optimizations do not actually improve performance in many cases and sodium still doesn't render transparents correctly. OptiFine didn't have major adjustments and improvements to make its optimizations compatible with newer features in the game. Most of the optimization in optifine happens by miscalculating fog culling and thus basically having the render distance by one chunk lower than it should be (-according to jellysquid)

I think the problem is if a mob loses it seems like it will never ever be added. The only “exception” is the frog. But all biome votes were said to be added eventually. As such the frog isn’t a real exception as it’s a part of a different type of vote. If old losing mobs could re-appear in a vote for a second chance every once in a while the whole lost mobs thing is completely removed. Here’s the idea. Really upset that the glare lost? Well the tuff golem came back for the new mob vote so the glare may appear again too. Even if the tuff golem loses again it’s very beneficial to the community for it to even reappear. ( for the record I didn’t care too much about the tuff golem, what I’m saying here is that if they did bring it back then I would feel hope! Because maybe someday the mobs I wished won will come back for another shot).

2nd comment, just because the first got too big. I'm still amazed at how people confidently call mojang lazy when there's countless videos from mojang that showcase how much it takes for their concepts to be completed, just the deep dark and the warden, in their various iterations could make at least 3 separate mods
@simplysmiley4670

Warden is waaaaaay different from something like a Sniffer though. One is a hostile mob with it's own mechanics to avoid dying to it with inclusion of blocks that reduce sound when you walk on them with whole separate blocks that detect noise and can be used for redstone. While in the mob votes we have peaceful animals that will give you one singular item and that's it. This genuinely seems lazy as hell and sad that people defend this. If it were as mechanically complex as Warden, sure, but not when these mobs literally exist just so you can get a single item without a fuss about it.

A potential solution could be to make an annual mob vot loser update that releases every 5 or more years, where all or at least most of the losing mobs/bimomes get finally introduced in an update. This would insure that the idea pile doesn't grow to large and that the loss of a voted feature isn't as bitter du to it eventuality coming back.

I don’t support people personally attacking the developers as the blame should be pinned on the company not the devs because they simply do what they’re told so they can buy food. My main grip is that the reason everyone is misinformed is because Mojang is not open enough with the community on the development process. If they were more open then this would’ve never happened.
@nnnik3595

No everybody is misinformed since a lot of people parrot bad ideas. They look at mods and think that they can deduce what mojang is doing just by looking at mods from the outside. As a modder myself I see that Mojang has made many changes to make modding easier in the codebase. Then someone is making the modloader and updating it. When the modder finally gets to make their changes it's not just the work of one modder but many many people.

I'd say the main issues with the vote are that what gets added isn't impactful enough to warrant it, and the fact we lose the other concepts forever unlike the biome vote adds to the stakes, which breeds toxicity. I'd prefer if Mojang slowed updates down and just do biome votes for community votes. Would it be more work? Yes, but if they had more time to work on the game before an update released, it'd be worth it. Minecraft needs big updates, not frequent ones.

He literally said in the video that the losing mobs aren't lost forever - they just go back to an 'ideas' shelf. The problem is that most of the community believes they are lost (due to miscommunication, I think. Mojang failed to clearly communicate that the rules of the first mob vote don't apply to next ones), and are mad about it, while it isn't even the case.

Personally, I'd love to see a vote, not on new ideas, but on things we've already seen from that "future list of features". It would give people who are waiting for something on that list a chance to get what they want. Currently by showing new never seen content, they are just increasing the number of disappointed people at the end of the votes. In this idea, different years could have different vote themes: 3 biomes to upgrade (taken from the close to wining entries in all past biome votes), or 3 mobs to add (again, entries that were close to wining in the past). Hell, even "What feature do you want updated: Enchanting, the Inventory, or Combat!" I'd love to see that (dunno if mojang would make a vote for something so major, but the idea still stands). I wouldn't be too disappointed if my vote didn't win, at least it had a chance. I think I'd really like if the votes were like this. I just know how the votes are currently set up is making too many people disappointed.

I feel like you bring up good points on how this works, but I wish there was a way to engage the community that doesn't leave nearly two thirds of the player base bummed out, or locking away interesting features indefinitely behind a mob. Maybe a losers bracket could allow them to have the same engagement, but create a promise that "yes, these are actually coming, and we haven't just forgotten about what folks were so excited for", and could possibly be a more specific version of those pitches from before, more clarity on what the actual plan might be for what would be implemented. I understand why these things don't happen, but I do find it frustrating, too.

4:05 "Major updates would get smaller and only focus on the mobs. We'd probably never get something like the Nether update again without skipping the mon vote entirely." This is just simply not true, as the Nether update added 3-5 new mobs (depending if you count variants); Piglin, Piglin Brute, Strider, Hoglin, and Zoglin. From what I've gathered from this comment section is that communication is the part that mojang is most lacking in terms of mob votes. And tbh, i'd have to agree with that. I used to fall into the "but they're being lazy" camp, but it's only been through people _outside_ of mojang that i've come to understand how narrow that view is. And i can't stress enough how weird it is that i didnt get this understanding through mojang, but through other fellow minecraft enjoyers, just weird. Another part of it, and which i believe is a root cause for all the anger towards mob votes, is also that it just generally stings having these cool concepts be shown off and _seemingly_ never return. The majority of people are disappointed by the mob votes; people discuss these ideas, but at the end only one is implemented (seemingly, so far none of the losers of mob votes have returned, with the exception of the biome vote) and even when that one mob is implemented, the people who voted for it might still be dissapointed because it doesn't do what they wanted it to (e.g. the phantom). What *I* feel really needs to happen is there be more clear communication about things, and preferably have something definitive said about the losers of the mob votes (all the concepts for the first mob votes were so interesting imo...). I would also just love to have the unneccessary infighting and anger caused by the votes be put to rest, i even see it among some of my friends, which is just sad tbh; though, ig mob votes do generate a lot of "engagement" and people talking about minecraft, so cynically speaking it is good for minecraft, just at the cost of it's reputation.

But you also cant say that we are guaranteed to get the losing mobs in future updates. The only guarantee is the winner, and sometimes even that falls short of the under-explained expectations. And thats the other issue, is that Mojang doesnt provide nearly enough clarity on the mobs to avoid wild speculation and large amounts of dissapointmrnt in the winner and regret for not voting for the others when the mob is finally added. I'd at least want Mojang to add the top two winners of eavh vote. That way there's less warring among voters and more satisfaction overall. Considering the mild features weve gotten the last few updates, I wouldn't mind sacrificing some of them for a few extra mobs to liven up our worlds, if that is indeed the cost of adding a few of the losing mobs.

To be completely honest the whole point of the mob vote being to "let the community engage" only made the community _split_ for the worse. Most of these mobs and most importantly their *features* won't be added probably ever at this rate, and unlike with the first vote being for _concepts_ of the mobs, this is for already fully fledged out ideas. I would love the feature of the crabs, it's neat quality of life, but I would also love the wolf armour. Why the hell do I have to choose one or the other and in the end end up being unsatisfied no matter the result? And not like my vote matters anyway, influencers sway the votes either way with worst offender being the whole Glow Squid fiasco. And sometimes like with the Sniffer, the result is genuinely pathetically bad. At this point I would prefer there to not be _any_ mob vote, this only causes toxicity within an already problematic community. Either add all of them or at the very least *actually say anything about the loosing mobs isntead of putting them in the trash bin and never acknowledging them ever again,* or don't make it a vote in the first place.

@@halloween_BoI the way I see it you could boost ocean travel (and potentially normal ice road travel) by a lot - just put the penguin in the boat. I do not see how that is less useful than wolf armor. If anything it's more useful.

My problem with the mod vote is the mobs themselves. I feel like most of the mobs have lost potential. For example: allay all they do is pick up items on the ground that's it. Why can't we make the allay go out in the wild and gather resources, or we could make the allay help us gather up the crops instead of relying on red stone or villagers. Another thing I don't like is when people say, "Think about the potential." Even though all of us know they won't live up to their potential. For example, the glow squid. Idk I feel like most of these mobs have lost potential, and they just feel half-baked.

@@Speaker4 And yet they use the mob votes to keep Minecraft relevant and _out there_ on social media. And in the end you get a mob that exists just so you can get one item or be used for some niche and very simple task that you already have alternatives to both as simple and better/more efficient.

It's really sad to hear all the complaints every time an update comes oit from people who clearly don't understand how big games studios work, how much goes unto adding anything new to a multi-platform game coded in two different languages and how workers are subserviant to the corporations they work under and can't do anything they want just like that. It's tyresome and speaks to a lack of maturity understanding and empathy. If you want to complain about sketchy monetization in bedrock, I understand. If you want to discuss gane design and talk at length as to why certain fetures don't add or remove from the core gake loop, Iget it. If you wanna talk about how you wish certain fetures made it in or how you'd love certain changes, that's fine. Bit shitting on the game developers, artists abd coders and saying things like "modders can do it faster" just highlights your lack of understanding on the subject. That said, this next mob vote is hard, cuz aesthetically I love both the Armadillo and the Crab, bit I'm not sure about wich mechanic I want more 🤔

If any of the mob vote losers had come back your argument would work, while they have done it with the biome vote we currently have no material evidence that they will add the lost mobs or if they do it might take 5+ years, honestly though i would be fine with the whole thing if mojang said that they use the mob vote to figure out what is important to the community, so they can refine their additions in the future so even if the mobs dont get added the discussion is still taken into account.

The mob vote is the Marketing team wasting resources to drive up interactions, the dev side of minecraft it strong armed into making marketable updates, the resources that go into the mob vote marketing could go towards developing the game, no one wanted minecraft earth, no one wanted the mob vote, the games state of health is really bad because all the technical and Quality of Life updates are shelved to the side by the marketing team, unless the technically update makes the game socially acceptable, like chat reporting and online banning, or good looking technically updates like reworking the world generation. Marketing is the problem, Marketing is killing the game, and Marketing is wasting resources that could be used on the game.

Anyone who doesn't understand just how much work goes into the iterative process should really watch the videos where kingbdogz talks about designing the Warden. He showed so many experimental designs that any modder would have easily ran with and made an entire mod of, yet mojang got as far as testing them in game and decided to revamp the whole thing again. One is a hostile mob with unique mechanics tied to it based around sound and sneaking around including using wool blocks and carpets to reduce noise. While on the other hand we have stuff like a glow squid that doesn't do anything but exist so player can get one singular item. Or a sniffer that after maybe an hour will give you a seed or two for some random decorative plant. _These genuinely don't compare._
