When the telephone was fixed somewhere and attached to it by a wire, people were free. Now that phones are mobile and free people are slaves to them. This civilizational change can only be compared to the cheapening and popularization of books through printing. When books were produced in an artisanal way, and copied one by one by hand, they were very expensive and remained in libraries as if they were treasures. The mass production of books allowed ordinary people to purchase them and take them to read wherever they wanted. This mobility of knowledge has changed the world. Now what is changing the world is the mobility of conspiracy theories, falsifications, lies and Fake News shared frantically by millions of people and driven by the algorithms that empower our smartphones.

In 2019, I still used my small Nokia and my youngest pupils were amazed by it. So little, so cute! While adults criticised me for not having a smartphone. One elderly man told me that having a dumb phone means I don't want to communicate with people. Yeah, bc they are super annoying.

Mobile phones are not phones. They are essentially mobile computers. They are the most powerful and advance devices you keep with yourself 24/7. They are watches, notebooks, diaries, learning tools, alarm clicks, mobile tvs, encyclopedias, advice givers etc.
