‪@MerlinsOldSchoolGarage‬ and Makay are working on the Model A roof today. Merlin always uses miscellaneous items to build cars and you guessed it... This is not a Ford Roof! Will they be able to get it to fit seamlessly?

Merlin very good craftsmanship, I can judge, laugh not as a former senior engineer / senior site manager, been traveling worldwide. But still as a young man, in the early 80s, I restored a Mercedes SL 190 about 20 - 25 years old and brought my father-in-law's Mercedes 190 back into shape. On the SL 190, which belonged to a friend, I even built the fenders myself, the whole floor assembly was rotten, everything was new. Smile, then partly repaired with 316 sheet metal and welded in with stick. The body panels, all autogenous welded, as well as the exhaust system, pipes all new and bent WT 4.5 mm. Silencer, completely new, built by myself. Everything then sanded and sprayed with a super primer, sanded again, again with primer, sanded and then intermediate coat and top coat. The SL 190 still looks like new today, is only driven in good weather and is kept in a well-ventilated garage. After that, I never had any more time and needed my free time for my family and myself. I then spent a long time restoring a house with my father-in-law, where my son now lives. Greetings from Frankfurt Gerold.

Whjen fitting a large pannel like a door or roof, I use a refrigerator box as I typically get one or two chances to make a stiff replica of a finished shape I then cut on the outside of a sharpie marker to finish grind the actual fit. finally the top fits to Tig weld into position. I am thinking about using some magnetic tools to jack the panel level into the correct alignment for future body work with minimal distortion and filler. I love being retired as projects take time and I own the project not the project owning me. I probably spend as much time on messing with tooling as I do working on the actual project! More fun for me ! I often wonder if content pressure may detract from your projects.
