That’s a great reworking of the slow train. I love the idea that railway modellers are remembering and restoring what Ernest Marples tried to eradicate. Well done Grumpy and all branch line modellers.

I hate to disappoint you Aaron - but he adapted it from a song by Flanders and Swann. and he wrote about 20% of it. Though I think his line about "Dr Beeching's dismantling through us is undone" was lovely. :-)

We had to chaps over here, Sean Lemass and Todd Andrews who eagerly closed railways and pulled up every rail and sleeper with a vengeance over a feverish decade in the mid twentieth century. Some of these were narrow gauge and almost bicycle slow. This continued into the seventies and early eighties. Those lines not nicked by locals through reverse acquisition have been turned into greenways. Having walked them in places, a lovely resource

I didn't know that - thanks for sharing. Yes, some of the old railway lines here are now footpaths and cycle ways.

Hello both, thank you for the mention on WENS@P. But again, missed your Live Smile. However: The Southern Region St Ives branch line was proposed for closure following the Beeching Report, the line gained a reprieve, original to close in May 1971 However, a new, straight, platform station opened on the site of the goods shed to replace it and its still open to this day. Take care. But keep um coming.

@@modelrailwayquest No, not really, I`m a stay-at-home sort of chap, as where I live some whom call envy me being aside the canal, a quiet area good neighbours. What more does one wish, lived on my own since `My Sheila` passed away. Have my hobbies, read a lot, still learn things every day, still volunteer. The other week fancied visiting The Vale of Rheidol railway, so made up me sandwiches, they being, Pastrami on malted bread, mayonnaise, Gherkins and boiled egg, with fresh ground green pepper, bottle of water, Iced tea, chocolate biscuits and off I went. Cracking day as I like my own company, unfortunately my friend `Miss Sunshine` was unable to attend, Caroline lives with her mother of 90. Sometime next month up to Sandtoft to work upon a Trolley bus The only show I try to attend is the Midland Model Engineering Exhibition near Royal Leamington Spa. just a pleasant drive from Burton A444 - A5 - B4455 to the showground. Or maybe the Model Exhibition at the Stafford country show ground, missed this year's Pete Waterman `Making Tracks` in Chester as `other things needed doing. Well take care Mrs Jesson, one day our `Tracks` will cross, but not upon Carnforth Station or ??? They just might.

Dawn tell Grumpy that we watch "Midsomer Murders" on the television here in Frederick, Colorado since he mentioned "Midsomer" in the poem. That was pretty good poetry on Grumpy's part. Heather was impressed. Looking forward your next informational vid. Full scale RAILWAY STATION and structures preservation is something we are concerned with as well here in America. Much railroad activity here in the American West was in pursuit of extraction industry (mining) objectives -- evidence of which is rapidly disappearing every day here. RON & HEATHER JAGRAF/X.

There is a lot of truth in the ode. But funnily enough, I work in a garage that was built in the old sidings at Littleton and Badsey, that Grumpy mentioned in his piece. Yes, Dr. Beeching has an awful lot to answer for, as I hate the place!!.

To be fair, Beeching was given a rather unenviable job. He did also have positive ideas as well. The likes of Marples never seem to get the "credit" they deserve. There was some very dubious justification for some closures but I reckon politicians had a hand it forcing this as well.
