1. I've been looking everywhere for you. I caught some of your shows on PBS a few years ago, and was just recently looking for your episode on clothing for people with disabilities but couldn't remember the name of your show, and on a search, all I got was Nancy. 2. Unrelated to #1, I am so very grateful for this tutorial. This is the best double welt pocket tutorial anywhere...that includes bespoke/traditional tailoring that I'm not going to tell you how much I've spent on lessons for... lol. this is so much smarter. Applying the lining over the top, before cutting is...well, let's just say I'm swearing a lot less now doing it this way. :D Thank you for sharing.

After spending an hour trying to get my first welt pocket working through more traditional folding methods I was about ready to tell my hubby he wasn't getting back pockets for the shorts I was making.. You're totally saved my bacon with this method, very easy to understand even for a complete beginner!

Many thanks for reminding me of this - I learned this about 40 years ago but haven't used it in recent years. The only difference from years ago is that I learned to start in the middle of the welt strip, stitch to the end and pivot round to stitch to the other end and then pivot and then back to the middle. That way there was not back stitching.

Thank you so much, Peggy! I haven't attempted a welt pocket in many years, and I was struggling with understanding the instructions for #1516 (Armani's Unlined Jacket). I almost decided not to put the welt pockets in. Your video is so clear and simple, I was easily able to follow it, and was successful!!!! (Ok, I had to un-pick just a little bit at the edge of the first one because I made the mistake you mentioned, not to over stitch, or go through the back-stitches at the end of the V). I get it now! You're a fabulous teacher and designer!

I found this tutorial wonderful! I have been working on 2 welt pockets for a couple of weeks. Of course it doesn't help that I chose a borderline upholstery fabric and grosgrain tuxedo facing fabric(used as the side panel of the jacket front) and the pocket straddles the 2- arggghhhh! But I seem to always be making garments out of the wildest combinations. At any rate, your techniques are spot on and easy to follow. The pattern companies could take some lessons from you!

makes it look so easy compared to other methods. issue is making those strips perfect
@SilhouettePeeps9 жыл бұрын
The strips you start with are 1 inch wide. Fold them in half to be 1/2 inch wide and then stitch them in the middle, 1/4 inch on each side of the stitching. Hope that clarifies. Peggy
@Hertog_von_Berkshire8 жыл бұрын
For anyone who prefers it mathematically : * Cut width of welt strips: X (1.0") * Folded width of welt strips: 0.5X (½") * Stitch on centre-line of each welt: 0.25X (¼") from edges * Distance between stitch lines: 0.25X + 0.25X (¼" + ¼" = ½") * Finished width of each welt: 0.25X (¼") Thin materials will behave close to the mathematical model; thick materials less so.

Hi Peggy! I really like this. I'm not a very experienced sewing machine user so my results aren't as nice as yours, but this method has allowed me to put welted pockets in some of my favorite graphic t-shirts that I couldn't wear because of my cell phone can be in my pants pockets.One comment, there is a loud hum on the audio. I suspect that is because of an impedance miss-match microphone and mic-jack.

Thanks for your amazing tutorials! Let me just ask you, aparti from handstitching, do you know an easy method for patch pockets with no visible stitching from the outside? Like the ones you normally see on coats or jackets, they are machine sewn from the inside. How do you do that! Please help!

Thank you, Peggy. I am in my sixties and new to seeing, do this is very helpful. But a question: should I top-stitch the pocket in completion?
@brettlefevre309 жыл бұрын
I just have a quick question, when you say the welt strips are 8 inches long by 1 inch wide, is that after you have them folded and pressed, so did you cut them to be 2 inches and then fold them in 1/2 inch? I just wasn't sure about that but otherwise thank you!
