I love this. This is right up my alley. I love playing with the modes. They Make A guy like me song, half decent.😊 learning the molds also made me a better guitar player. I like to play guitar. I like to play the ood. I like to play bass. I even like to play Keys. I love harmony. And I especially love your solo video that you did a few years back, that it sounds kinda ambient, and it's also using the modes. I think Scott interviewed you once and you talked all about it.

By the way, I tried using autumn leaves in g and it's great. Because you're playing in first position, and you're using all the open strings, which is great.😊 open one more thing. Thanks for that pentatonic video I got a lot of mileage out of that. I'm starting to use the pentatonic again. Thank you. Thank you, thank you.

I think I may be overthinking it… would the modes be equivalent to the extended arpeggios of the key? For example, in the key of C Major, would the I chord = C,E,G,B plus the extensions D,F,A = the Ionian mode? And the 7th degree of the scale would be B half diminished = B,D,F,A plus C,E,G to complete the Locrian mode? If a song is in D Dorian, would another way of communicating that be like, “This is a 2-5 I. C major”? Thank you for your lessons! I appreciate your time and energy (and patience!).
@almendratlilkouatl21 күн бұрын
of course buuut, it'd be better to think of the extensions as something not diatonic, even over a major diatonic song, a #4 over the Imaj chord would sound better than the P4, as well as in the diatonic minor chords the 13's have a lot of play, even over the V7 chord I like to use the #4 and or the #5 for spicyness, even the b9, so I would say extensions can be non diatonic
@whatilearnttoday529521 күн бұрын
If a song is in D Dorian then it has absolute nothing to do with C Major. D is the root. You're playing a minor scale with a natural 6. C Major may be the scale used to generate D Dorian, but after that it has nothing to do with the tonality you are playing in.

Cannot you just simply say/think....if your in a C major key tune, and the two chord is played, your'e basically playing D dorian? The five chord is played so you're in G myxolydian? Go to the four and your're in F lydian....? The modes are confusing but it's really just playing the notes of the scale (C major) with the focus on whatever scale degree you're in.
