This is our second K-Classic. We had our first one for many years, so when we had to replace it, we wanted nothing else but this exact kzbin.infoUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf model. We use it for about three people everyday in the morning. The taste and quick brew is one of the reasons we like it so much. There are so many choices of brands of coffee that we would grab what was on sale and test the different brands from there. I would definitely recommend trying different brands of coffee to find the ones you like the most because there are brands that quite frankly taste horrible.

It's so hard to translate between cultures, but as a Dane I can only describe Eva Solo as "basic bitch but for women ages 50" (I don't like the term "basic bitch" in particular, but I haven't got anything else). It's so weird to me that MoMA sells it. Visually the things they make are fine but nothing groundbreaking and they're 100% form over function. The have a line of pans that have handles shaped like those hairpin tables legs (the Eva Trio Dura Line for anyone wanting to look it up) and I hate them with a passion.

FWIW, things sold at the MoMA store are not necessarily in the permanent design collection, and neither of these coffee makers is. The store has to fill its shelves, and most of the objects in the permanent collection are no longer manufactured. Also, the permanent collection has much higher standards than the store. There are four coffee makers included in MoMA's permanent design collection. The two still being manufacture are the Chemex brewer and Alessi's model 9090 espresso pot, designed in 1978 by Richard Sapper.

hey Morgan, thanks for showing off these 2 coffeemachines! The metal disk(reducer) you put in the mokapot funnel is used to reduce the amount of grounds you use, can be used if you want to make half the amount of brew (with this mokapot 1 cup instead of 2). the grounds should go on top, not underneath it :)

An Italian that always used a moka pot here: first of all, great content! :-) that been said, possibly the main reason why an the gemini has no handle it's beause in Italy the vast majority of houses has gas stovetop, and when you are using a moka on a gas stove you simply stop the brewing process by turning it off as you have no hot surface that can keep giving out heat to the moka... so using something like the gemini, you could turn off the gas, wait a couple second that the brewing ends completely and you coud take your cups with you to drink, getting back to the moka pot when it's completely cold and secure to handle :-)

Hello there! The additional filter thing of the Gemini is actually a reducer you put in the bottom of the main basket. Allows you to brew one even smaller cup. My bigger pot also came with one, I wasn't a fan as it kind of messed with the brew in a weird way and also was a pain to separate from the "puck" later.

Moka pots are classic. The shape is iconic, they are used all over the world by all kinds of people. And they make rich delicious coffee. My first experience was when on vacation about 10 years ago and the house had one. Didn’t know how to use it but my daughter said “this is what we used in Cuba!” (She was there for about 6 weeks living with a family). Then our Brazilian friend said this was what she used in her home and her family uses in Brazil.

Hi, 14:59 don’t think the extra filter for the Gemini Express is for use on top of the ground coffee like tamp. (maybe that’s why it took quite a while for it to start brewing?). It can be used should you want your coffee less strong (not me 🤷🏻‍♀️😅) The rim you see In the filter compartment will fit/hold that extra filter perfectly reducing the amount of coffee with almost half than when using the whole compartment. Love my gemini expres i bought in Italy 15+ years ago, but also like our larger bialetti in case we have 1 or 2 visitors. And old school slow filter manual pouring for larger parties 🙂☕️

For the issue that was mentioned at 14:46 (the coffee chamber not standing up), I put the chamber on the upper part of the moka pot, so that it rests on the outer wall of the container and the coffee outlet at the center. This trick does not apply to the style of moka pot that is shown in the video but is useful for the standard ones. Maybe this helps somebody that uses a moka pot.

I picked up an item very much like the Gemini Express at a thrift shop in Pittsburg last year, made by GSI Outdoor. It's very similar to the standard Moka pot (including being able to use the standard basket, screen, and gasket. While the Express has that clever two-spout head, the one I picked up has a single copper tube which goes up a few inches and turns back down. It does, have a rubber protector in the tube, so it's possible to move it when hot. I suspect it was marketed as a campfire coffee maker.

The second brewer would be good to having a serving tool on hand. When it gets hot enough use serving tool to scoot over off burner. The problem is for people who do not have glass tops. With a gas stove you could just turn it off but an electric burner with risen ring plates would be a disaster. My idea for how to add a handle: a separate piece shaped shaped sort of like a tuning fork. A straight part which you hold, and a "U" shape that you position under the "wings". The two arms could have a little protrusion at the ends to create a positive grip (preventing it from sliding).

That moka pot... Does look nice, I won't argue. But considering we have two moka pots of this general design in my kitchen and both have a small plastic handle (I can't find a good example still in store, but Bialetti had a good example of this at a time) so you can at least handle the pot around the stove to get it on a cooling spot when your cups are brewed. This pure metal, no handle design is sleek, but screams second degree burn hazard.

I like Eva Solo's other brewer better - it's not a pour over, it's got a filter that fits in the mouth of a glass bottle. Put coffee and water in, insert filter, wait, and pour coffee out through the filter. Easiest coffee maker I've used so i grab it when I'm lazy.

Really enjoying your channel. Just wondering if you've ever tried a Vietnamese egg coffee. It's to die for (just a figure of speech not to be taken literally), they use moka pots alot.

That Mika pot reminds me of something from REI in the 90s or 2000s. They called them “camping espresso makers.” Even though it wasn’t technically espresso.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that the "not a tamp" part of the moka pot is for doing half portions (at least that's how it works for mine)

The extra filter for the moka pot looks like it could be used as a stand for the chamber, if the handle is the correct size.

The Gemini express is a version of the classic Italian cafe maker. There is a version like that for a cup or two, so I don’t get that brand , which isn’t the original brand. In Spain we use that traditional coffee maker and it’s great

I spent $29 on my pink moka pot and I love it! The only thing easier might be pour over. I belong to scent box and I love it. :-). Just an FYI in fleur-de-lis the S on the end is not pronounced it is said like Lee. ;-)

Thanks for the video Morgan, I think the only value of these brewers would be for display purposes. Couldn’t see myself using either of them but they look good.

Did you just throw shade at my beloved Chemex?! No no no...just, no. (Looks at the actual brewer with its drips down the side from the morning's brewing)....ok, fine, you have a point. I still love it...and it looks hella better than the Eva IMHO

The one Morgan shows she has its a wood handle one could be an option also :) PS: Bialetti also has option like that one, that doesn't have the top part with the handle. Mentioning this because personally think both options are cuter than this Gemini one :)

If MoMA wanted to make a cool item, they should make a beautiful/functional moka filter holder so that it’s easier to fill.
