@@Folemaet she is totally a millennial, don’t talk about shit you don’t know.
@Folemaet2 жыл бұрын
@@enteblu6799 Despite the terms for generations being not scientific but marketing ones, the general consensus is that millennials (or Gen Y) are children of baby boomers or early Gen X, so the year of birth is between 1980(earliest) and 1996(latest). The show eludes that Heather is younger than Rebecca who is 26 by the start of the show, which means that she is born later than in 1990. Gen Z on the other hand is born between 1990(earliest) and 2012(latest). The range is defined by the growth in the environment with the widely-adopted Internet. Heather's traits clearly align with Gen Z's absent parent-child conflict, long childhood, general good behaviour and digital literacy. So in my opinion, she is much closer to the stratum of "generation reaching adulthood in the second decade of the 21st century" as Oxford Dictionary describes Gen Z than the group of people who turns at least 30 by the end of the series. Or in other words, most of the millennials are going to have quite old children by the time of the series. Darryl, on the other hand, is a good example of the older millennial.
@user-kb8qw7dy4t2 жыл бұрын
@@Folemaet It doesn't really matter what she technically is because the mood is still millennial AF.
@chingizzhylkybayev85752 жыл бұрын
@@Folemaet millenials being 35-40 when season 3 aired is a wildly incorrect statement. You said it yourself, the oldest millenials were born in 1980, which means we only started having 40 year old millenials in 2020. Season 3 aired in 2017-2018. Given how the midpoint of the millenial birth interval is 1988, the most average millenial was 29-30 at the time, definitely not 35-40. And I don't know why you cut off Gen Z at 1990, must be a typo. 1996 is when you have your youngest millenials, consecutively, that's when you have your earliest Gen Z's. Now Heather states she had been a college student for 8 years in season 1, which took place in 2015-2016. Given Heather's overall character, it is unlikely that she graduated hight school early for whatever reason - most likely, she went to college when she was 18, making her 26 during season 1 (which also means she must be very close in age to Rebecca, who is 26 at the very beginning of the show; I guess Rebecca clings to a technicality when saying Heather is younger than her, or, more likely, she assumed Heather was a normal 20 year old college student before asking her directly about her college tenure). Now if Heather is 26 in 2015-2016, that wouold mean she was born around 1989-1990, making her a very definite millenial. And I don't think Darryl is a millenial. If he was a millenial, the oldest he could be in season 1 would be 35, while he gives off a strong vibe of a man in his early 40s. I don't have any concrete evidence for that though.

I apologize for the necromancy but this is one of those genius things about this show. You can see other characters going through their own shit (Trent and Audra for example going through their ingenue phases) and get glimpses into their lives and it really drives home how much of our experience is universal even if the details are different. I think repeating the songs is the most obvious tell but I love this too. It makes it real and relatable. This show is a masterpiece.
