i think you're just regurgitating old concerns without giving Blooper a chance. Myself, a lifelong SH fan, have massively enjoyed the game. The original will never be replaced. I dont consider these all as jump scares and the combat has be revitalised somehow as its a remake. i think they did a great job and you're being too harsh tbh.
@Foxhound_Veteran17 күн бұрын
The remake will never replace the original. Having played the original many times and replayed it recently just before the remake which I enjoyed enough to 100% trophy complete. Bloober has done a fresh re-imagining of a classic game. They also took care to frequently give give nods to the original. I think they tried to strike a balance adapting the game for modern gameplay keeping it exciting for new and old fans alike. They did this while still respecting the original game. Alot of the character conversations are almost word for word identical. Admittedly, I do think that especially the original voice actress of Maria had more impact in her voice deliveries. But I find the remake Maria has her moments aswell. All in all, the remake is good. One could make an argument, why Silent Hill 2 did not get a near 100% faithful remake like Metal Gear Solid 3 is getting. It keeps all videos identical and gameplay/environments are exactly the same. Then again, I think due to how Silent Hill 2 was produced. It does not lend itself as well as MGS3 for such a remake. Especially when the videos in Silent Hill 2 were pre-rendered and not generated all in-game engine. Just my take.

@@frankaliberti Strong disagree OG SH2 is nto obsolete at all. It's a fantastic game and better than the Remake that took everything that made the OG Unique and smoothed it out into an absolutely generic experience "For the masses" Action combat and double the game length do nothing but hurt what SH2 was trying to do. I just don't agree that the inventory menu being slow and breaking game flow all the time was part of that.

@laurenz676016 күн бұрын
Very accurate take. I think they didn't even try to achieve the deam-like, uncanny and silent atmosphere of the original. I guess they wanted to create their own and "improved" vision, while appealing to the Tik Tok generation that looses excitement when there isn't a ton of action and things happening. Ironically these additions actually take away from the atmosphere and what made SH2 special.

Man i think you might have the most unpopular opinion formed on this remake thus far. 😂 You can't expect a developer not to take certain liberties with a remake almost 25 years later. It's a different zeitgeist we're in entirely. It wasn't going to be the same copy and pasted game and we all knew that going in. Give it time and I'm sure the mod community will come up with a "static camera" mod or something. Idk, I was born in the mid-80s. Ive been a lifelong fan of SH and I think Bloober crushed it; Y2K has v little to do with that. 🤣 Your take on this though...it's like youre saying, "The game's not bad but...it's bad." It sounds like if it's not the carbon copy of the original then you have every reason to tear it apart and that's fine but, this whole video came off as nothing more to me than someone sweating super hard that the remake isn't the exact same game as the original created by Team Silent. Those that we experienced the original Silent Hill 1 and 2 at its launch understand what he is talking about. It was truly a unique experience of horror. That feeling of James being a sloppy character, with limited resources to combat, just created the anxiety he is referring to. The remake is still an outstanding game, but I definitely agree that it feels now more action oriented and less physiological.

"at its launch" sure, silent hill was revolutionizing the horror genre at that time. now it's 20+ years later and people have a different tolerance for horror and it needs to evolve with the times. i grew up with the games, was obsessed with them as a kid, but going back and playing them again i find myself desensitized towards them and more annoyed than anything at the "ear assault = scary" moments (which are rampant) and laughably easy combat. like being able to literally run circles around enemies in ogsh2 with the plank and taking them down in a few consecutive hits because they get stunlocked and don't retaliate. 2 and 3 are pretty bad for this. 1 is, ironically, maybe the scariest and "hardest" out of all of them. at least in remake they fight back and can get the drop on you, which is a lot scarier in my opinion! the horror genre has advanced a lot in this time and bloober team has done a great job of improving the game to modern standards. the original games are masterpieces for their time, but silent hill needs to do more than just rest on its laurels if it wants to come back and succeed. there's too many good games out there now.

Honestly, game studios just need to stop remaking games. Original fans will never be happy. Most of the people complaining about this game, or the resident evil reboots were children when they played the original games. You're a hollow husk of your former self, you will never enjoy things like you used to.
@ashleighwillis856416 күн бұрын
Should there be less? Perhaps. However then we wouldn't have this gem that brings in new players and people into this franchise I've loved since being a kid. As long as a remake is about preservation and making it more, say, mechanically relevent and not rewriting preexisting story. Then they'll be great.
@anotherland246216 күн бұрын
just don't buy em, they can keep making remakes if they want. who cares about the original fans, they had their time and their own experience when they were kids. let the new kids have theirs, gatekeeping with the "just need to stop remaking games" line, what a goon.

Man, are you so desperate to stand out as "the one with the unpopular opinion", that you would go ahead and make this joke of a review public? I would call this "nitpicking" if there was some truth to it, but there isn't. you basically wanted to find *something* to trash, couldn't find, and started making stuff up. The bulb going out - are you really reading this as a jump scare and not atmosphere setting? Becuase it is not supposed to startle you. The various walls/doors/cabinets falling over are also not supposed to startle you - it is supposed to block your way back and just indicate by a sound that something happened. Are you suggesting that there should be no sound when a wall collapses? This is the first of your videos that I watch, I just stumbled upon it. It will definitely be the last, though. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but in all honesty - I do not believe you trust your own words on this. I had to even switch accounts to able to comment here, which I almost never do, no matter how dumb the content. I would suggest you don't review games anymore. Rather, look for a facebook group of moms discussing how kids should avoid sugar like their lives depend on it. smh. Final words. I do believe Silent Hill has a weak spot and it is its combat system, which, at some points is really hard to control and I often lose my place among enemies in tight spaces. The 180 degree turn never helped me.

Are we really going to act like every little noise is a jumpscare? By this logic, all of the original games were full of jumpscares. Are we seriously going to pretend that the original SH2 wasn’t very easy? There is little friction and tension in the original. All of the enemies are easy to deal with. Going into a menu kills a lot of tension because you’re safe and can take your time. The remake has much, much more friction and tension just by being harder and making the combat more engaging. Even SH1 did a better job at this than SH2. There are some fair points in this video, like maybe SH2R has a bit too much action, and the originals should definitely still be made available to play on modern systems, but they’re buried under a mountain of nitpicks and a sheen coating of pretentiousness. Trying to make “blooberism” a thing is one of the most pretentious things I’ve seen in awhile. Ultimately, this video feels like a prime example of “old man yells at clouds”.

I think everyone is in titled to their own opinion, and this video might come off as a hot take. I agree with The Gamer on some things, but I don't agree with everything. I do think the new Silent Hill 2 is very much a remix/retelling of the original. I also think it is very Linear like when you crawl through a hole in the wall and something Collapses behind you. Or when Pyramid Head Chases you down a narrow hallway. I definitely agree with the jump scares and predictable enemy ambushes, I shot 1 of the Mannequin through a window at the Appartments that was hiding behind a shelf but Fully exposed in said window. I agree with the quick swapping of Weapons and Dodge mechanics making the game way easier. Made me think of Silent Hill Homecoming. I would end up shooting every enemy in the leg and then run up finish them with the metal pipe. I miss the fixed camera angles and how they force your Perspective like when you get the flash light its focused on the light to draw you in to investigate. And when you pick it up James make note that its his wifes clothes. In my opinion it made you game feel more cinematic, like each new place was a new scene in a movie. I also like how the original had James look at points of interest to clue you in to a hidden item. I think Bloober did a good job with the game, but I don't agree with all their changes. Like the first fight with the Lying Figure they move it to inside a house but high lighted the original fight in the boarded up tunnel. Or when they made a new boss fight area for Pyramid Head which was way bigger and not as cool when he leaves by going down the flooded stair way. I liked the original abstract Daddy boss fight room better. It was more other world like with its flesh walls and pistons moving in and out and was more telling of Angela's terrible relationships with her father. The new one was more of the run down Appartments. To me it just felt like they changed these things just to change them with little reason behind it. I really think this is one of those situations where you ether love it or hate it with very few on the fence about it.

You are going to get a lot of hate for this video for the sole reason most people really want a "Resident Silent Hills 2 Remake". I understand some of the thing you say, even if i liked the remake a lot. But as i can tell some stuff is inferior in the remake, many other things are way superior. It's a different take. My biggest gripe is the ammount of fighting you need now compared to the original. It's not scary, it's just annoying. The walk when exiting the hospital leading to the prison was too much, and didn't make that much sense at all. That's the part i hated most in this remake. It's so "not silent hill at all". But for example, the labyrinth got more interesting. The first part of the hotel is also amazing because its again lonely and, well, silent. But this time at least you don't get 200 enemies thrown at you. To me this is the sweet spot. Thing is, that kind of slow paced horror that we loved back then, isn't what people want now. I used to love Silent Hill and Fatal Frame for its own style and pace, but just look how niche Fatal Frame is now still (somewhat) using that formula. In the other hand i would take anyday what Bloober did VS Silent Hill being totally dead, or well, Downpour levels of "ugh".
