alvis is the admin of the world but still only a machine. what is interessting is that the name monado comes from religion and refers to an entity that can create others and only it can destroy these lesser ones. alvis is the original monado and due to him creating the universe,the two monadoswords came to be and he is the reason why shulk stood up to beat the owner of the monados(Zanza). however,I like the explanation more that someone on the fandomwiki gave a few years ago that a monad is a program that was created by another,but can change the sourceprogram. they gave the program the name monado because it was created by beings of their universe and was supposed to change it or create a new one(that part seems a bit weird to me)...well,until klaus fucked up by activating it too soon at least.

Thunder Chang the way the Conduit/Artifices/Aegises work is basically identical to how their equivalents work in Xenogears, and that plus the actual references to ‘Gears contained in XC2 make it a certainty that they’re connected

I think that they reason why Zanza was killed even though Shulk was the same but with only one sword is because Shulk wasn't just a homs at that point of the story. (Remember that the monado changes it's appearance depending on what the wielder is trying to fight). In Zanza's mind, Shulk was just a "mere mortal", a common folk homs while in reality he's probably an ascended homs/low level god. In Shulk's mind, however Zanza was a god. Nothing more, nothing less. That's why the true monado came into form, he was thinking about kiling a god, so the monado morphed into a god-slaying-sword.

I mean,pretty much. the symbol on the monado shows what it can kill. monado1 was sealed away and only its basic abilities remained,so its symbol was that of enchant which is machine. monado2 has the symbol for person,so it can destroy biological people in the image of mankind(homs/highentia). and monado 3 has the symbol for god on it and zanza actually commented on it,so he can likely read japanese and knew he was fucked.

I just noticed that Alvis says that he was part of a "phase transition experiment" and Klaus in Xenoblade 2 said that Ontos triggered a "space-time phase transition event", causing his disappearance. Coincidence?

Alvis being Ontos is a fan theory. I believe they are the same but some people choose to differ. Mythra's true Sword looks like a Monado too. Malos even has his own Monado.

@@bananas7126 Malos actually uses his Monado twice (His endgame bosses in 2 and his boss fights in Torna), but with how little we actually *know* about the connection between the Aegis and Monado, I'm not going to tell anybody what to think. It could be a connection, it could be a reference, we'll just have to wait and see if there's any official word later down the line.

Kirby's Monado is a whole 'nother can of worms. It likely doesn't provide all of the god powers of the original, but is rather just a replica capable of mimicking its most visible attributes (namely the shape and arts). That said, Kirby should be able to form said copy on his own after Planet Robobot and Star Allies suggested the possibility of Kirby and Dark Matter's species being able to summon weapons from memory. All that said, Kirby is, in all likelihood, powerful enough to have his own Monado separate from Shulk's, and in some ways, his Ultra Sword would probably count as it.

Given what we know about Void, Kirby's Monado is probably as powerful as the regular ones without the need to have the mermission of any of the Trinity Processor cores. If Kirby is able to access any of Void's powers since he is technically part of it, like Star Allies suggest, he could even be able to create fully functional replicas of the Cores themselves out of nothingness by using his will alone. Kirby's Monado would actually be legit according to what we know about Kirby but it would also somewhat be a downgrade because Kirby can actually already manipulate reality without the need of such a complicated network. To push the Xeno comparison further, in his universe, Kirby is actually connected to what would be the source of the power of all the beings that live in the upper domain, an absolute omniversal God, what is the source of the "leaking" that gives the Zohar/Conduit this much power. Funnily enough, Kirby has already destroyed beings that are very similar powers to the Trinity Processor. Does a "Sentient Super Computer that connects with a source of infinite power to grant its user the power to alter the fabric of the universe and modify its laws for it to fit their own wish" sounds familiar? Yep that's a thing in Kirby and these things were actually mass produced, Kirby killed two so far.

You bring up Star Dream, but there is 1 thing Star Dream was unable to achieve completely aside from defeating Kirby: cloning Dark Matter. Star Dream and the Trinity Processor may be godlike, but Kirby and Dark Matter are on a level above them comparable to Elder Gods and Great Old Ones.

Hell, replicating the True Monado is another thing too since it requires actual permission FROM said omnipotent being to do so, and using the sword literally grants you all his power, making YOU omnipotent yourself. So don't even get me started about Kirby being able to exceed the Conduit that is literally MADE UP OF TWO OTHER SIMILAR CORES *LIKE ALVIS* ALL COMING FROM *THE SAME POWER SOURCE!* So yeah... Kirby ain't gettin' anywhere near that.

I don't know where that is said either but I do know that the sun is stationary and just 'blinks' on and off, you can easily observe this yourself by just looking at a sunrise or sunset.

If the final cutscene is anything to go by, the world they're in is actually a pocket dimension, haphazardly slapped together by Klaus when he performed his experiment on the Not-Zohar. This is backed up when "good" Klaus wishes to see Galea again, and the camera drifts off to a space in his hologram which could well be the world she and Zanza ended up. I believe a Nopon says something about the day-night cycle in-game when spoken to, and mentions the sun and moon being balls of ether, but I don't recall who or where. It isn't until Alvis re-creates it on Shulk's behest at the end of the game that it's shaped into a full-fledged universe.

I assumed the monado's ability to freely manipulate ether was basically manipulating atoms and chemicals in the real world. I like how it's power is scientific and not magical because the replica monado's make complete sense that way, if it's scientific it has reverse engineered and replicated. I also see Alvis as the true god and the monado's as basically key's to tap into his power, all the keys need to be in agreement to use Alvis's power. I also think that's a really cool take on a god, having all the power but by his own programming can only use it when all the inputs have been made, like how my computer wont open windows unless I drag my mouse to it and click it, Alvis won't recreate the world until all the Monado's are in effect.

There are different definitions of what a Monad is, the 2 most important for Xenoblade purposes, are Monad 1 = A soul (this is represented by the Monado swords) Monad 2 = True God Monad 1 refers to the version most prominently found in Monadology, with the pre-established harmony shit and whatnot(this detail was established by Meyneth, to Vanea, offscreen, and then Vanea revealed it to Shulk in a kind of offhand comment that nobody seems to remember) whereas Monad 2, refers to the True God in Gnosticism which is basically just existence itself and the Laws of physics through a complicated application of the Hermetic Principle of Mentalism. In Xenogears the Monad 2 is represented by “The Wavelength Existence” whereas in Xenoblade 1, it’s I guess Semi-represented by Alvis. As such, Alvis, no does not own the Monado swords, rather he owns the ability which all three used, to manifest their own Monados. Klaus and Galea manifested their’s with the whole birth of a universe thing and, Shulk gained the status through being the Demiurge, Zanza’s Messiah, with Alvis as Monad’s Christ (Valentinian Gnosticism, look it up) through this Alvis taught and nurtured Shulk’s mind to strengthen his Monad to being something worthy of being a God, which I shall refer to as the Gnosis phase. He had the aptitude to be worthy because Zanza, who already had a Monado, had previously killed him separating him from the Pre-established harmony, and making him technically already a God. Yes Shulk was a God before he owned his physical Monado, that has to do with Monadology.

some points I differ on in no real order. also im really sorry if I misspell any names. Zanza was using mainith's sword in its true form it turned into twin swords for that one battle because A) it was the best weapon for that bodies mussel memory or B) it was some form of shared control and Fiora was doing the actual fighting. we can know this because after Manith dies we see the swords fall and combined before flying to Zanza. Dunban was able to use the monado because Zanza didn't want to die/have his sword destroyed but even with permission the fact that Dunban is not a god cost him his arm. its likely that Ryan could also use it if he had the same permission. All three Monados likely have the same power level but during the final battle Alvis removed Zanza's admin privileges well giving that authority to Shulk. because of this Zanza couldn't use nearly as much of the monados power (similar to Dunban only having two arts) and Shulk could use far more power.

Newbie who just finished the game, here to respond to a 2 year old comment! Before the big twist, I figured it was the opposite. After the twist, I can only surmise that, as beings born of the Bionis, someone resembling Klaus would inevitably exist. I don't understand a thing about Xeno lore, but if I'm looking at the implications right, Shulk is essentially Klaus' reincarnation. Shulk dislikes vegetables/Klaus treats life on the vegitated Bionis as bacteria. Shulk is a tinkerer and researcher/Klaus was a scientist. And there are other interesting parallels, or potential irony.

The Monado aren't physically constant like the rest of the universe. They can freely change according to their masters' whims, and one can also manifest as multiple separate objects (see Meyneth's dual wielding.) So they're kinda like Alvis; metaphysical concepts that can manifest physically whatever way you want. This is how Zanza uses the light sword and the Monado simultaneously.

Gameplay-wise, it shows that normal people that don't wield the Monado can also change the outcome of the visions, but I don't know how much is just gameplay and how much is cannon, considering this is a huge mechanic trought the game, but idoes seem to be that on the more elaborate visions and probably in cannon in general, only the Monado can change the outcome(like using Shield on Reyn to prevent him from dying by the Arachno) or the Monado simply is the better option(now thinking of in-gameplay battles, for example something is gonna kill Reyn, Light Heal puts him on a range where he doesn't die, but using Monado Shield completely annuls the enemy's Talent Art)

I think that's more a case of since Shulk saw the vision if he tells someone else they acquire knowledge they are not supposed to have which in and of itself disrupts the flow of ether allowing the future to change. If that makes any sense I'm not very good at explaining.

Zanza made Shulk a 'god' Shulk had been a 'god' since Zanza posessed him, since Zanzas (active) body was sealed at prison island. (or his mind if you will) Zanzas mind can only inhabit one body. (Arglas)(not explicitly stated but implied by behavior and speech) after Arglas dies Zanza can't take over Shulk (as Shulk is a 'god' already) At first I thought it was 'weird' that Shulk wasn't Zanza, but in this context it makes sense to me. (it's more like the later fiora/meyneth possession but the whole time for Shulk storing Zanza.) Just my opinion.

it is likely that shulk has his essence and arglas has his mind while the monado has his soul. that is why the monado was able to do whatever it wants,but it never really did shit before shulk accidentially activated it after ryan tried to(he later says that stuff like that happened to him a few times,but I will just consider that a minor plothole). after that,zanza actively shapes his behavior and gives him visions,but he is not able to do stuff directly. after arglas dies,he is complete and just chills until dickson releases him. one time,he does not even bother showing shulk a vision he has which leads to him being confused at just knowing the attack was coming without seeing it.

Really glad i found this video. This is such a great summary and culmination of all that we know about them and it had so many things that i didn't even think of. I especially loved near the end when you talked about how the different god's power levels are determined by Alvis. While i do disagree with a few of the things in this video, i think in general this is one of the greatest xenoblade videos i have seen. Although i might be a bit late, keep up the good work man! I can see you put in a lot of time into this and you deserve the praise.

I personally saw it as Alvis, Zanza, and Mayneth are the holders of the three monados. The original holders can freely wield others monados, which is why Alvis uses Zanza's monado for a period of time, and in the end of the game Zanza using Mayneth's monado after her defeat. After the first fight with Zanza, I saw it as Alvis granting Shulk the power to still have visions and during the final fight, Alvis granting Shluk the power to use Alvis' monado. Kinda similar to blades and their drivers from XC2, where beings who have the power to manipulate ether to a high degree granting others the power to wield it.

Haven’t finished the video, but basically I see the monados as physical manifestations of remote command line terminals to Alvis’s CPU (and thereby the XC1 universe as a whole), with a the true monado as a command prompt being run as administrator. When the universe was created, Alvis gave Klaus and Galea each an account with most permissions and a monado terminal, but only Shulk was given an admin account with *all* permissions when he got his.

Is it possible that the reason my Dunban and other people can’t use the monado is because they weren’t alvis bonded driver

The concept of Driver and Blade are only a thing in the original universe since it was Klaus's idea. Klaus even refers to Malos as Logos manifested in Blade form, meaning the Aegises aren't originally Blades.

I'm pretty sure the Replica Monados don't have any of the actual Monado powers on their own. Fiora says that he was made a wonderful new weapon, not a Monado, and Dunban says they were relying too much on the Monado before Shulk shows up. I think the idea is they made a large sword around the same shape as the Monado so Shulk wouldn't have to change his fighting style too much when he woke up. Then, the power that was awakening inside him turned that Machina Sword into a full-fledged Monado. The other replicas have different stats, but no differences outside their capacity to forge other weapons; they're unable to change the artes or anything. I don't think Dickson would be so surprised by Shulk showing up with a Monado if the Machina were actually able to create something that could pass as one.

Yoko shimomura the composer for Kingdom Hearts did do a handful of the tracks in Xenoblade 1 Including the main title theme and the main Bionis battle theme (the one at your timestamp) along with a few others. so yes it is partly the same composer

Isn't zanza the bad side of Klaus so didn't he make alvis? Like, the Architect made the 3 Aegises, then the conduit glitched out and yeeted alvis to the same world that Klaus's bad side created. I'm just confused cuz what ur saying makes sense, that alvis created the 2 gods then granted Shulk the powers of a God, but if zanza/klaus created alvis in a different world, how did Alvis create zanza after he was lost in Alrests world

Also...in XC2 shulk gives Rex the Monado...now...it could still be shulk holding its power and Rex is just swinging it about...but that means Rex...is a God...witch...he is...he uses the master driver so he can use every blade the crew has...even the three poppies...yet the shulk we see is not "end game" he is..."halfway?" Maybe... Even then...the Monado and the Aegis are different swords...in different universes... controlled by a different God... We have the Monado 1 and 2... As well as pyra...mythra...and there third form...witch...is not owned by either... because...in the land of moythra you decide if pyra or mythra names appear next to the "third Aegis"... When you first get it fighting Jin...even when I was playing as nia...the game made me be Rex...and it is impossible to lose the fight to them...Rex will never go below 1hp...witch I understand... But also...the Aegis...opens up...and instead of having... ether? Come out...pyra has flames...mythra has light...and the third one has...all.. elements... It can use all elements... And... technically the manodo is a light blade... because...duh that's the element he is given... does that mean that it's...a Fourth Aegis? Of course not...but maybe...

2:40 The funny thing is, the replicas actually are weaker than the Monado I, with even the max attack value of the Monado Abyss (13.5 x level) being below that of the Monado I (15 x level). Also, another fun fact, the attack value the the Monado III is the exact same as the Monado II (max of 18 x level). Granted, it does much more damage on average with its 75% minimum critical chance.

Hey, I know I'm late to the party here but I've just found your videos. Question: If you propose the Alvis is a Blade and the Monado is an Aegis, then how does that make sense with the fact that Meyneth's Monado exists? Based on XC2 logic, that doesn't really make sense. Would you just chalk it up to the fact that this is in the Universe that Alvis created so he can bend the rules a little bit regarding how the Blade system works since that was something that was established by Klaus in the XC2 universe?

I’m pretty sure the reason why Dunban was able to wield the Monado is because of his “desire to protect”. That desire is what allowed Shulk to use the Monado despite the Apocrypha being active, but it takes a large physical toll on the user, hence Dunban losing his arm, and Shulk becoming tired. Also Shulk was able to see the future and use Monado arts due to the fact that his experiences with Zanzas Monado allowed him to exist outside the “passage of fate”. Which is basically just the ultimate prophecy. Being outside this “Passage” means that his actions couldn’t be predicted by Zanza, and his god powers basically were becoming his own, not just borrowed from zanzas spirit. Alvis said “the Monado will grow with you.” And it’s because of this that his replicas channeled that power.

I think when Arglas picked up the monado, he inherited most of Zanzas soul, but Zanza left a small piece of his soul inside the monado, just in case. Kinda like a horcrux. When shulk gained the monado, that piece then became part of shulk. Thats why he wasn't able to fully control Shulk and also why he had to free Arglas. After freeing Arglas the soul became why again within Shulk and then you know the rest.

Am I the only one who seems weirded out by thus tiny detail but... Alvis wears a triangle design on his vest which most likely represents the whole trinity processor thing. The SAME design is on MEYNETH monado but not on zanzas. At the final boss fight the 3 monados make a triangle again... Is this a reflection of xenoblade 2? with mythra knowing and encompassing her duty of sword of God/ database AI of all life in the new universe and she recognized the existence of other monados like her (she would qualify as MEYNETH monado, MEYNETH seems to know she is a god for a reason and says the world does not need gods ) whereas malos is "freed" from his duty and wishes for all destruction but of himself as zanzas monado (xenoblade 1 says that the monado only acknowledges it's own existence and nothing else)? Sorry, maybe it's a bit confusing but that idea is messing so much with my mind and explaining it in a language I was not born learning is difficult ^^'

It could also be that the symbol is the symbol of machines in xenoblade. meyneth is the soul of the mechonis and her monado is her soul,so it would make sence for it to have a symbol relating to the mechonis nature. that could be very clever interconnectivity with alvis backstory as a program as a program is a part of a machine. zanza does not have it as he neither is a machine,never was part of one and his titanbody represents the biological aspect of the universe. what is also interessting is that alvis might have it on his clothing because he is the original monado that created the universe and never spawned his own sword after becoming a god.(if he did,then he would likely be the owner of monado3 and not shulk)

Yeah bc Ontos triggered that transition event and the Aegis cores were only made as the managers of blades which is what Klaus did after (a) the experiment which separated him across universes and (b) remaking his own world so Ontos probably wanted to check out where his dad’s other half is and turns out he’s a god with a god mentality bc from his POV the experiment was a complete success and both sides of Klaus had world-shaping powers after the experiment no matter which side of it they ended up on. Maybe Ontos deliberately soaked up a shit ton of the conduit’s power making him way more powerful than the other processor cores giving him ultimate power over even Zanza who we don’t know how much of its power he was imbued with but since Alvis is able to overrule him it’s probably less than Alvis. Same goes for Meyneth probably idk just a wild bit of speculation.

Fantastic video, thank you for your effort. The appearence of the Monado depends on the will of it's wielder, that's how Zanza described it. So I think, that Zanzas Monado has 3 different forms because of the current will of its wielder. The first form symbolizes revenge and hatred for the mechon. It is red, a colour for love or in this case hatred and revenge. The second form becomes sharper and bigger. That indicates the release of the chuckles. This form has more of Zanzas power in it and the strong will to kill every mechon and to be more offensive. The "true" form that is wielded by Zanza doesn't seem to be suited for battle beacouse of that wing decoration stuff and isn't completely red anymore. I think that it shows how arrogant he is. But more importantly: he truly longs for friendship, even if his pride and morals hide it. That's why his sword does'nt seem that menacing. "The Monado is the light of each and every living being in the world" - Vanea That light, though the Bionis wields pure light, is not anymore in the monado of Zanza. He himself doesn't personifies life at the time he awakens. He want's only death for his own creation so he can continue to exist. Quite selfish... I always have the feeling that in the world of Xenoblade an intelligent liveform consists of it's body, soul and will. These make them real persons. Alvis for instance had a body and an artificial soul (AI), but no own will. Sure he takes action on it's own, but he does not have a real inner will, no meaning of live that he can chose for himself. Yet he is the one that tells Shulk that he could find his own path into the future.

I kind of wish that at the end of the final battle when Shulk gets the true monado that all of his arts become maxed out and there is a much more noticeable difference in the power because as far as i am aware, the only real change is the auto attack becomes constant and he has a super high critical rate.

the problem is that it would screw up newgame+. you would never need to actually level the arts diring the first playthrough as every one you have unlocked by the time the op weapon spawns would just max
