That's the part about narcissism and narcissists that people woyld discuss more often-the sadistic undertone of it. Two in my family loved to see others suffer. They HATE me because I figured them out so I NEVER showed them anyrhing other than a happy go lucky the world is my oyster face. Then they looked for the silliest "flaws because they want to see me squirm in some way.. One day I finally just said, you guys want me to suffer so bad why don't you just start kicking and beating me-go ahead-since thats what you really want. Just imagine. I'll be at least in hospital bandaged from head to toe in excruciating pain at least. But then think of all the Billy bad asses youll meet in the slammer where you will be at the bottom of the food chain. Result. They stopped dealing with me at all. Haven't heard from or spoken in years. Good riddance.

From my personal standpoint, I have encountered a challenging situation involving my mother, who exhibits narcissistic tendencies. I have observed her consistently portraying herself as living in destitution, often pleading for assistance and making others feel guilty, while simultaneously hoarding her own finances. A particularly distressing incident occurred following my father's passing, where she resorted to fabricating the circumstances surrounding his death to conceal a substantial sum of money, totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars. In my opinion, individuals who engage in such deceptive behavior exemplify the worst traits a person can possess.

this is so true. absolutely. in my family, my mother was such a thief herself and then her "golden child boy" who she used like a monkey to do her dirty work (he had been a cop and was very aggressive and yes, you would be afraid of him, I am still and so are my sisters). when he thought she might die soon, moved in on her to "take care of her" (not on your life, trust me), he used all her resources and just saved his pension and SS coming in, God knows what else, anyway, then my niece (another "golden child" favorite my mother spoiled horribly) slipped in and pressured my mother who by then had "issues" with remembering, she took her to a notary and changed her will to GIVE IT ALL TO MY NIECE. it was perhaps 7 MILLION and she left the country after my mother died. THIEVES, ONE AND ALL. do they care? not about YOU, it's all about THEM. thank you Danish!

My ex narc would not keep money in the bank. He was working and getting benefits at the same time. With the money he was secretly earning, he would invest in gold and silver coins. I didn’t know the true amount he had, or where he put it. All this, so that no one could ever take it away. He was so tight with money, when he moved into his council house, some of his neighbors helped him, by giving him their old furniture. The old lady even gave her old hoover and he kept using her lawn mower knowing he has 10’s of thousands of pounds hidden away. He hadn’t seen his children in years and paid no child support. We argued about money all the time. He complained when he bought food for us. What I saw in this man, only God knows.

This was my mother 100%. Money was the center of her life, and she held onto it with a vise grip. She manipulated family with the promise of it, while at the same time exaggerating how much she really had. She once loaned me some money, and then immediately proceeded to bash me daily about how much interest she could be earning if it were still in the bank. Interest was rock bottom at the time, so I calculated that she would earn about $3 for the period of time I would have the loan. I gave her a $5 bill and said, "Here, you made a profit." She immediately played the humble victim, stating "Oh, it's not about the money." "Then why do you bring it up every day?" I repaid the loan early and eventually cut her out of my life due to all her manipulative shenanigans and slander behind my back. Of course, she alienated me from the entire family. She strung along my son an his wife for a few years with promises of inheritance until she died and that inheritance proved to be much smaller than they thought it would be.

@Prometheuspredator

Please don't worry and stress yourself out about inheritance money as they will swing it above your head to get what they want to control you. Do not allow money and inheritance to control you as they know they are controlling you. Live your life the way you want and be happy and free from this mess. Family money and estates are a mess believe me. Don't let it control you. Who says that you will receive an inheritance or not. If the executor of the estate is your families "Golden Child" and you are the "scapegoat or forgotten child" there will be drama. I have seen examples of the "Golden Child" sabotaging sibling relations with their parents such as smearing your name and talking behind your back to gain favor with the parents. They will fragment your relationship with them and isolate your parents. Be careful. Live your life the way you want to. Don't allow money and inheritance to rule your life and if so you will be controlled and bound to them. If you get an inheritance great and if not that is ok to. Word of caution: You living your life the way you want to will cause a split in the dynamics between you and your parents and siblings. Don't let money control you as it will rob you of your your and happiness. You can not allow it to rule your life and if so you will live your life to meet their expectations which most of the time are ridiculous and unreasonable.

Yeah, but it seems best tactic to leave as soon as you can. You cant any way relly on them. They will always blackmail you and nothing is good enough. The only way is to blackmail them too and keep them accountable. Narcissist only fears bigger narcissist. Treat them to destroy they reputation, unmask their mysteries, have evidence. I told her if she will threat me again, she wont ever see me again. And she knows she will stay old, miserable and alone with her bitterness. Thats her biggest fear.

Get them upset about anything around money and if they feel the need to prove something they will show you to hurt you just to prove they could help but it's your ways or you don't deserve it etc. Right about guilt on using your own money even for your bills. It's a horrible feeling to hear a parent say those things Danish definitely know the feeling. People that don't understand these things think it's made up but having seen it and experienced it I can speak empirically

My mother is a covert narcissist and I didn’t realize how bad this money issue was until I moved back to my hometown where she lives. My sister clued me in that money my mom was giving me to help in a tough situation actually was coming from my sister and not her. My mom always made it seem like it was from her, further indebting us to her. Then when we moved back my mom always had her hands out. I made the mistake of giving her money out of guilt so much that it put us in a tough financial spot. When I stopped doing that she turned on me and things just got worse and worse. We have little kids and was trying to buy a house. she absolutely expected us to give her our stimulus money! We had to stop asking her to watch our kids so we wouldn’t “owe” her anything.

That's so true cuz thats what happened to my mom - leaving her in denial to the point of near poverty. After her separation and recovery from such terrible financial abuse, now she's thriving with her real estate business. It's like God is compensating her back after what has been lost.

I have a very narcissistic father who thrives on control, belittling my mother and I, screaming at us etc. He’s weird about money too but almost the opposite of this. He holds money over our heads as a way of controlling everything. Then makes you feel guilty or justifies his calling us a piece of sh!t every second, among other things, because he paid for something. Does anyone have similar experiences like this? He wants us codependent but always screams that he always has to pay for everything. Which isn’t even true. 😞

Do you live there? Please get out. You are a target and your mother is too. He has become used to using you and "vomiting" on you both. If you live there or visiting go "Gray Rock" on him. Say nothing to him, remove yourself and leave. Go somewhere where he is not. Narcs. love to perform in front of an audience it gives them an "Adrenaline Rush" a high feeling and they feel powerful and invincible. Like they are the conquer of the world. My brother does this crap, but he also enjoys to go off in a rage in public places. Getting the attention of others and seeing the stunned look on people's faces and their processing thinking of what to do. He knows now that when he flips out it is highly unlikely that anyone will deter and confront him.

Oh Danish, I hear you. My husband is a miser just like your father. Of course he spends money but only when necessary to pay bills and household expenses. Everything he spends on has to be the cheapest and me and the children went without a lot of things except bare necessities, no luxuries. He always acted poor like we could not afford anything. He is retired now and has superannuation that he is now allowed to access. He will never do this because in his opinion that would be unwise to spend it. Our house badly needed renovations and repairs but he never did it. His brother ended up paying for the repairs and even renovated most of the house. My husband let him do that and just cried poor. I guess his brother felt sorry for all of us and so offered to pay as a gift. Now every time something needs to be done, my husband puts on a sad face for his brother and gives him another sob story. I started to see the pattern in this behavior and felt very disgusted. I finally left him a week ago.

When I was little, strangers would ask me if I needed food or money because they thought I was homeless; My mother, who owns expensive real estate in NY, used to dress me like a bum...She would go to Macy's to buy expensive clothing & overpriced markets like Balducci's to buy a loaf of olive bread & a glorified croissant for $40...Then, she would buy me & my sisters crappy Dunkin Donuts for breakfast...It wasn't until my school called my parents to ask them why me & my siblings looked malnourished that my father told my mother to buy us more food. I can't believe how greedy my narc parents were throughout my life. Years ago, my mother robbed me of all of my possessions & had them thrown in a dumpster; This was right around the time I was moving in w/ my boyfriend & planning my 'escape' from the family...She lied & pretended that she thought all of my belongings were trash...Sadly, I actually believed her because she was one of the best liars! This is how evil this woman is; My father actually got angry when I confronted her about the situation...You literally can't even make this sh*t up. Years later, I found out the truth about it; She had robbed me of everything I had owned to prevent me from leaving the family & to devalue my legacy...I still can't fathom how I believed that she did it 'by accident'...I must have been stupid from all of the abuse. Now, when I think of my mother's fate, I KNOW that she is destined for Hell for how she treated me & my sisters.

I was really excited about my great find, but my ex told me that I shouldn’t have bought them without consulting him first because they were going to be in our apartment after we move in together. They were just basic white dishes. I told him that they were for my place and I used my own money. He tried to convince me that I was in the wrong, but it didn’t work. Finally, World War 3 broke out when I told her I never planned to put her name on the title to my house. I worked my behind off to pay for it before she came along. She lived with me rent free. I don't think my dad has NPD (I usually talk about my mom lol). But this reminds me of my dad. Although he acts ethically, money is his whole life. It absolutely consumes him. If the stock market has a bad day, he'll have a panic attack. He also judges people on their money, too, like if they don't have it, they're somehow morally wrong. I think it's a trait passed down by his mom, my grandmother who was a Great Depression baby. He would not give me money for dental care even though he has over 2 million dollars. And it's still not enough. He scolded me for giving money to charity.
