You've seen Alexander Godunov (Max) before. He played the long haired Karl in everybody's favorite Christmas movie, "Die Hard." "Money Pit" did not do well because it was panned by most critics. "Steven Spielberg Presents" means he was one of the Producers or Executive Producers but he didn't direct it, just like "Poltergeist" "Gremlins" "Goonies" and "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" which all have his name stamped on them. Having never seen this movie before, Tom Hanks's little joke when he first sees the peeing statue is funny when you remember his character's medical condition in "The Green Mile." The contractor, Curly, was played by Philip Bosco. He was never the lead actor in any film, but his most memorable scene and quote is in the incredible movie "Working Girl" costarring Harrison Ford and Sigourney Weaver, a movie you should put on your radar

This was indeed an hilariously fun movie, and there’s a reason for that - it’s a remake of the 1948 comedy hit MR. BLANDINGS BUILDS HIS DREAM HOUSE, starring Cary Grant and Myrna Loy (who had co-starred the previous year with Shirley Temple in another hit comedy, THE BACHELOR AND THE BOBBY-SOXER), and based on the 1946 novel by Eric Hodgins. You should see both of those films as well! You’d like them. I remember seeing this in the theater back in 1986 when it came out. I loved it and laughed my butt off! Thanks for the throwback!

As a long time fan of Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House, I wouldn't quite say that Money Pit is a remake of it, more like it was an inspiration for it. For one, in this one the couple doesn't have kids. Minor detail, not necessary for sure. But another, in Mr. Blandings, its not like they were scammed by an old lady. They just wanted a home of their own, and wanted to build it themselves to make it their own, and sure money problems ensued. Money Pit puts a twist on that by having a house that comically falls apart around them! lol Still, both great movies!

Julia Child was a big deal back in the day because there weren't many channels (like less than 10 in most parts of the country) and she was the first accessible cooking show for beginners (and if not the first, then one of the first televised celebrity chef). Her show premiered in the 60s. Tastes became more sophisticated at the time nationwide. Prior to the 50s it was very meat and potatoes, bread, a vegetable boiled to death maybe etc. So, there were a lot of women trying to cook fancier dishes and no one to really show them. Julia shows up, she's hilarious but she's also confident and says its ok to make mistakes. Plus, one of the very few pre-women's-lib shows aimed at women. Her impact was felt for decades. I myself learned how to cook from Julia Child at the ripe old age of 8. My single mom had to work 2 jobs and I was left alone pretty much all day. PB&J gets old fast, and I was already watching PBS to see Mr. Rogers so it wasn't that hard to start cooking. I've been told I'm a pretty good cook ;) Anyway, if you want to see someone learn to cook Julias recipes and kind of see what learning to cook looks like in real time then check out ANTI-CHEF channel on yt. He's pretty funny.

@@michaelceraso1977 I'm going to courteously disagree with you about Shelley Long: I always felt she had magnificent comic timing, and a good sense of the character of Diane. Special notice of this for me goes to the episode where her cat died, and the one where Sam and she had a complicated competition about publishing poetry, and where Long swung from one emotional extreme to another with dizzying skill. If she was difficult, I point to the slow destruction of Diane's character by the writers over the last few seasons she was on the show, and which would have (and did) annoy me as well. Notably, the same thing happened with Rebecca's character over the years, and that Alley did very well with the material she was given.

A couple of people have already recommended it, but I'm here to add my vote for "Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House" (1948), the film that inspired The Money Pit. You haven't watched a Cary Grant film on this channel, yet. But I'm sure that once you do, you'll be a fan. His reputation as a handsome, charming leading man is well-deserved, and his comedic chops are also top-notch. If you wanted to throw Cary Grant's "Arsenic and Old Lace" (1944) into the Hallobeans "lights-on, not-so-scary" selections, it would be a terrific experience!

I don't think she was ever popular or even that known in Europe before the movie about her, except as some vague remote celebrity. She studied cooking in France, but then he did her career in the US, popularizing french style cooking. The french already knew how to cook french, and had french chefs, so had no use for her, as for the rest of Europe we didn't know or care. Her success wasn't "across the pond as well" (if you mean across the Atlantic, in the US, in addition to Europe) but solely in the US.

Hello Again (1987) is one of her best. Sadly, her Career peaked and truly only spanned a hair more than single decade, then she sort of faded into background and obscurity... from 1981 to 1993 she rose, soared, and then poofed... she took 4 years to move from minor player to lead female role, would stay in the lead for 12 years, then almost overnight (okay, she faded for two years, then) just become a minor player all over again (no, seriously, I didn't even realize she'd worked in over a decade, making a Disney Channel Appearance, and that I thought was a failed attempt after another decade of nothing to jump-start her career since her brief reprise of Diane Chambers from Cheers on its spin-off show, Fraiser...)
