Mickey is underrated as a singer, although initially presented as some sort of clown, he actually contributed a lot of the relevant vocals to the non-Davy Jones songs !
@maevecostello26293 жыл бұрын
Ok this is dumb, but I have been practicing singing this song, to try and master it by the time I see them in concert in October. An unrealistic pipe dream is they'll ask the audience if anyone wants to come up and sing it with them, and I'll say "ME!" and be called up and master it with Micky. XP

Man, his voice has gotten better with time . . . . love this song
@gvgv35152 жыл бұрын
I disagree with the statement of his voice getting better. ...I applaud most singers whose voice doesn't degrade over time. I an defend my statement my example. For instance for those voices who did and didn't degrade over time. Once great voices who DID degrade: Frank Sinatra, he spoke the melody to cover the notes he couldn't hit . Paul McCartney is the most notable and breaks my heart. His voice was starting to get gravely which I blamed on the touring in his mid 50s -60s. By 70 it had a " shake " similar to a Parkinson's sufferer. He also tried to keep the original song key but obviously it was in a lower key as he aged. Both Sinatra and McCartney made it to 100 and 80 years old respectively!! Sting he just can't hit the high notes he was famous for in his band the Police as well as solo material. He now sings the high parts in a lower register and " rolls" the notes so they blend versus his sharp alliteration. It is especially heard in songs he now does in reggae style which never were performed as such. ie: In a Material World, Synchronicity 2, Fields of Gold...too many to list!! Phil Collins. Now in his mid 70s as of 2022, has lost his Golden voice from the 70s-80s. His style of scream singing ...think Mama, In the Cage, I Dont Care Anymore, Abacab. They are hard as a studio recording, let alone live on the grueling tours with Genesis and solo career. He hadcto take steroids to alleviate the stress and pain in his voice and it showed on the We Can't Dance album/ tour. He sounds more nasal like a cold, and frail now . He also lowered the key he sings in to cover the fact he can't hit the high notes anymore and actually drops the high notes to very low to cover the inability! I loved his voice during his heyday still love the music! Steve Perry.. As the front man vocalist for Journey front 1976 through the early 90s he was the vocal face of the band. 1 note was all it took and you knew it was Steve Perry! His almost feminine voice would soar to the heavens to hit the high notes and NOT screamed but actually sung!! This ended with their Escape album. You could hear the gravely/scratchy quality beginning. By the end of Escape tour, his voice sounded permanently gravely/ scratchy. Most notable, you heard the change on his 1st solo album Street Talk with the song Oh Sherrie! The follow up album from Journey 's Escape album called Frontiers, also was totally Steve's scratchy voice. From then on the scratchy quality was on every recording to date! I still love his music and cut him the most slack from his grueling tours from the Escape album which IMHO RUINED his voice forever. Im sorry but the " replacement " is just that!

That's the only song I ever liked by the Monkeys. I never considered them a serious band and still don't, but that song took talent and from the first time I heard it in '67, to this version in 2015, (which I just now found, and is almost identical to the one in '67), I still think it was their best number. I can't believe that Micky could still sound just as he did in '67! Very Good!
