i've been suggesting, for a while now, that they could use their increased resources to form a 3rd main line Monster Hunter team. this new team's responsibility, depending on scope of the project, could be remasters or even remakes of the older games. either simple game preservation and letting more hunter play the old games or even meld the aspects that made those games unique with some of the quality of life we have now. not all of it but some.

Agree with this, Porting the old game for the newer console and devices would be awesome!! After knowing the game, now i do kinda want to try the old game, but emulating and somehow gaining the ROM (legally ofc) is just too much hassle for me and maybe other, not to mention the 'clunky'-ness from the old gen game, I guess it gave their own charm, but for the modern audiences maybe it became a thing that scare Fifth gen player. I'm myself is a Fiverr, and i'm glad World and Rise introduced me to this franchise, with that just prove that Monster Hunter is becoming popular and slowly not becoming niche game the old gen have.

No its not ruined, such Countests allways get wacky. And recency Bias, or Nostalgia allways creates weird Choices. If the List was lower then 229 Choices a Ranking would have been a fairer way of judging what Monster is truely the Favorite. And because some Monster have 3, or 4 Variations, Rathalos even 5, some Monster are just naturally nerved. I guess a better Compromise sould have been everyone choosing his Top 10, or everyone beeing able to rate Monster by Points, but only as many as they want. Rise, and World are part of the Franchise, so there sould be able to win Spots like any Entry, not just the slower, conservative ones.

There is a degree of bais towards more recent monsters, but it's easy to understand why. Most of the fifth gen hunters don't play the older games. Aside from maybe GU. Don't blame them tho. How many people do you know own a 3ds or a PSP anymore? How many people even CAN play these games? AND the fact some of these games like Dos and MHP3rd were never made available to the western side of the audience :( Not that it matters too much anyway, most people primarily fall in love with monsters from the gen they started with. (Not everyone, but most) Like me with fourth gen monsters. So even if they did play the past games, I think they'd still end up bumping up tons of fifth gen monster numbers anyway. I think we should just encourage the MH team to add in some of the more forgotten monsters into the newer gens. That way New players can experience them as we did :) Plus it'd be cool to see more return with a fresh coat of paint and an expanded move set anyway. :D

I still have my 3DS and my PSP for what it’s worth, and Portable 3rd was my first Monster Hunter no less! Ahhh… Yukumo… But I like what you said about encouraging the team to add older monsters… I think both Lagi and Abyssal in the top 20 was a pretty clear message to Capcom, as to where a very vocal portion of the fan base is coming from. :)

"Did the 5th fleet/gen ruin the poll?" Hell no. Just look at the distribution of monsters from 1st place to 229nth. Some non-5th gen monsters are on top in the same way that some 5th gen monsters are at the lower end. It just boils down to the monster that you like/love, regardless of when they first got introduced. Just to give an example, look at how Queen Vespoid ranked vs the majority of monsters beneath it. For context, I started with Freedom 2 on the PSP and I voted for Zinogre for both the monster and the theme. And guess what? It was always awesome since 3rd gen. Its best theme, at least for me and majority of the comments I see online, is the one from 3rd portable/3U and not the one in gen 5. Btw, great video! Felt very calm and collected. Oh new video about the voting polls I guess Id like to share my initial thoughts before watchinf based on the title alone. I think the 5th fleet just really represent the majority of the current monhun population because before monster hunter world was ever announced or relased, i only had a handful of people who knew and played the game But post-world release, i often see even as far as internet cafés where people playing monster hunter world when it was at the peak of its popularity. It was also simply referenced everywhere as it boomed in popularity So that's why I do think the 5th fleet having the largest population would have a big sway on the polls and they would also be the main supporter or playerbase of how monhun would be developed going forward And another issue i think this stems from is the accessibility to older generations like emulating older gen games are hard plus it has a much more difficult barrier to entry for newer players that's why they never experienced the older monsters. I do hope Capcom brings back some really old gen monsters despite the popularity differences. Like Yama Tsukami, or other old siege monsters. Ill give my after thoughts in the reply.

I love this! I’ll wait for your follow up before responding properly!
@shinjimirou9288 ай бұрын
@@CoyoteWildfire After watching the video As suspected with the high barrier to entry for past games, I agree that it was only natural for it to have recency bias with the monsters and 5th gen becoming the first everlasting impressions for the newcomers I don't think we would have this many players if 5th gen didn't become easier to access and easier to pick-up compared to the difficult and clunkier nature of the old gens. Which is why I also agree why it allowed Capcom to sustain itself and propel the game to mainstream. Just seeing the sales comparison you did is a staggering difference by the millions The 5th fleet basically does represent the majority now and it's important that Capcom gets to understand what the majority wants because it was the 5th fleet that made the game so popular in the first place. So I don't think they ruined monster hunter's voting poll but in fact they enable Capcom to understand what works and enjoyable for the majority which influences the development for a better game. Imagine if they made the mistake of mostly focusing on pandering to the veterans calling back for clunky mechanics from old monsters or environmental and game mechanics that are just unhealthy for the grind. It would really alienate the core demographic that is now the 5th fleet. You mentioned Capcom took a risk to do something very different that it alienated some of the old core demographic before World. I do think it was necessary and they may end up doing sonething similar with Wilds making something very new. Or who knows, the 5th fleet's sway makes them stick to the exact same formula which would be disappointing in its own way. To me, I may not be able to see my old favorites like Jhen Mohren, Yama Tsukami, or old monster be popular because it didnt leave much of an impression to the 5th fleet since they never got a chance to experience it. I hope the poll tells Capcom that it would be worth reviving similar monsters from old gen to give a chance to leave an impression to the 6th gen and 5th gen who haven't looking how Lagiacrus is the only monster in the top 20 as 3rd place that does not exist at all in the 5th gen in some shape or form. Just cut content that Capcom could implement. Great video

While I don't necessarily think that the majority of hunters voted in the same way that you did, for the same reasons you did, I'm definitely happy to hear that there are still hunters out there who've determined to experience and enjoy Monster Hunter as a whole, regardless of the generation they started with. Bear in mind, biases are still present, and I'm quite confident that still had an impact. These same biases impact older hunters as well, so it's not just the 5th Fleet, but the 5th Fleet just happens to be the majority of players now. It's more to illustrate how our first experiences can be most impactful, and there are plenty of Fivers who simply haven't been able to experience earlier entries of the game due to the lack of accessibility.

@@CoyoteWildfire yea I do agree that some people have no access to the older titles including myself I only remember 3U by memory as I don't have access to it anymore and that's not really a problem with the people but Capcom "obviously someone that never played 4U will not vote for gog for example since he never experienced him"... They NEED to bring ports of the older games to the new consoles sometime in the future ASAP... Not only will they actually gain a lot from this but we will also get back access to the servers so we can properly play online

@@dragonslayer3552 SUPER agree with this. LOTS of the comments now are mentioning how they'd like to play the older games, but can't. That plus the multiplayer you mentioned, would be an epic win.

Overall good analysis, but you did miss one notable point: CAPCOM has gotten better at designing monsters over the years, so monsters who appear as a debut or reprisal in more recent generations also tend to have more interesting fights and designs. A good example of this is Kushala Daora (who got a reworked fight in Rise), whose base version managed to rank 47 while the Rusted and Risen variants ranked 160 and 166 respectively. Honestly, I find that the vote results perfectly embody the community and spirit of Monster Hunter, with almost half of the top 20 and 7 out of the top 10 being monsters that are beloved by both the Old World Hunters and the 5th Gen hunters.
@CoyoteWildfire8 ай бұрын
I think that's actually a good perspective to have. It's optimistic, and keeps the most important part at heart: our mutual love for these monsters, enjoyed by hunters new and old. Also the issue i had is you can only vote for one. And sinds Bazel has a special place for me i couldnt even care about the others in my top 5 like Seltas Queen and Zamtrios. So i think what somewhat failed us is that we could only vote for 1. If we had different ways of voting like being able to vote for a top 3/5 (and different pols like one without varients or deviants.)

Yeah, the Variants was a difficult part of the equation. When I saw Stygian Zinogre, I figured normal Zinogre wouldn't make the roster, because it would be effectively dividing the votes between two different Zinogres. But then again, Zinny took first place... Same goes for Abyssal Lagiacrus, White Fatalis, Ruiner Nergigante, Shagaru Magala, and Crimson Glow Valstrax. i just hope the marketing team doesn't have their tongues lodged in the devs' ears on this. i'm mostly joking. i love a lot of the monsters at the top, and from World, but many other monsters we haven't seen in a while need to return. it's sort of unfair, most of the votes were people that would have likely seen a picture or watched a video of these older monsters. it's not their fault, these old games aren't exactly easily accessible. the bottom of the list wasn't people saying they hated those monsters, nor that they forgot them entirely even, just that they weren't many people's single vote for a favorite. in the bigger picture, that means very little. many of the highly rated could be divisive, with many loving them but many hating them or having them low on personal lists. it's not like people got a negative vote to use on top of their 1 positive vote. lunastra was really obscure, only being in singleplayer of MH2 and not even g rank, then she got a... um controversial rework in World. i just don't want the mixed results of these revivals and this poll to prevent the team from trying to do such redemption arcs in the future for more forgotten monsters. more monsters deserve another chance. i'm not mad at any newer players that just didn't take the time to look into what was and what could be, with some great monsters if they made a comeback in the new style. i just hope that the devs see the other side of this. not so much what monsters need to be in, for hype and sales, but also what was maybe a great concept but forgotten and in need of help. i'm a 5th fleeter but i chose to look into pretty much every monster. i did play the older games but i know of the monsters and have many that i want to return so i and the rest of the fifth fleet can enjoy them too. did they skew the poll? yes, mathematically that's just how it is. is that a bad thing? no, it's not, unless the team takes the wrong message from this and i doubt they will. him bringing up proximity bias made me think of Dunbar's number, the social science understanding that the human brain can only recognize 150 other people as meaningful relationships to them. there may be a similar thing at work here with how many monsters were not present for a while and even the groups of old players may have forgotten some monsters. this influencing any skew in the votes on the low end. the fact that the bottom was a tie fascinates me. those 2 are crying for a rework. i recomend checking out CR-volcanic's daily popularity poll for another fascinating set of votes. he's doing a vote of 1 monster per day, 1 to 5 stars for every monster to try and get a more fair vote out there. yes, smaller sample size but letting you give points to any or all monsters you want will measure the love for monsters in a more interesting way. a cool Monster Hunter community thing to take part in/promote if you are so inclined.
@CoyoteWildfire8 ай бұрын
I think that some monsters got more positive reworks, and perhaps some really didn't, like Lunastra as you mentioned. And I agree, I'd love to see more older monsters get a rework and more representation in Wilds as well. It's pretty important to recognize our roots and where things have come from to paint a clearer picture of how we got to where we are today. Every fleeter has their preferences for the same reason, including pre-5th gen. And mathematically this would certainly skew the poll, as you mentioned. But with Wilds likely to be the largest Monster Hunter experience to date? I'm thinking we'll get some older Monsters brough back, alongside the new monsters. Or at least, that's what I'm hopeful for!

Hey. I know it's been sometime since I spoke on your channel and all. I know it's also been some time since I even said anything at all. I had been dealin with a lot RL wise and honestly I haven't gone to twitter / X or anything and well I just wanna say that while I understand where everyone is coming from and the choice is just simply stating a simple idea of what's been looked at and after. Perhaps it wasn't just the monster but also the armor. I mean again though the awesome thing is though this could also be the move set and the whole story behind such monsters as you mentioned. The main thing being is like Nergigante. You have to take into account for everything that goes behind such decisions.. The problem that you mentioned not just hte bias but it causes separation but it should be embraced and perhaps taking into the thought process of say..."Hey why do you like this monster" Allow said hunter to explain why they enjoy it. Why the like it. What it is that they enjoyed for said monster. I personally would love to see new monsters like they have been doing. Perhaps build off such monsters as well to further develop said series. I would like to also say I think I saw Lao Shan Lung. This would be an amazing fight to see again and maybe even sit there and go back to enjoy and put him in it's fullest as a siege. All of this taken into account could be awesome and understanding to see how things would take place. I am not upset with the whole choices that were made. I do enjoy seeing some that are mentioned and would love to see more monsters included. I don't ask any questions but I ultimately enjoy seeing so many different suggestions and see those who would continue to enjoy the game. This has been such a great anticipation to watch and see how things turn out when it comes for the future. I would really ultimately like to see new monsters but I don't quite anticipate it. I do enjoy the fact that now there is going to be a bigger base of players that would look to enjoy this, to see how things play out and eventually see how many more people would get into this and further enjoy this game. This has ultimately bought quite a lot of people together. I have gotten other friends to play this that once were so unsure of it and now have gotten into it and really enjoy the adventure of this game that will soon be bought out into the wilds. I have enjoyed, I have loved, and cherished every moment with friends on this game. I also am excited to see and bring other friends into this game as well and want to gather my friend group into such things and have them go through the game, enjoy, and bring about a new delight that we can go about and enjoy this game to it's fullest! To have all the moments caught in action and experience the same surprise that it brings about when seeing the new monster, when coming in and seeing the new trials and scenes that burst onto the screen. To have that oh so familiar tune of.....the party crasher...the one I didn't see which was Bazelgeuse....This one had left an impression on me only cause he was always there... Love him or hate him....He always knew how to put you in that cart and send ya back to base. XD BUT! That being said this game and this entire generation has been amazing. The pics of the favorite monster is just something that maybe that they are taking into account. Perhaps they will look on this, explore more indepth of lore and even gameplay mechanics..We already see that this is been something that we have all enjoyed, the anticipation running high, the entire time of sitting here and watching as things fall into place and the continued thought proces behind everything of what we can expect, what we will see....perhaps even subtle hints of what else is to come until we get this next possible trailer, reveal, or what ever it maybe. We are all excited and thrilled that we are already just a few months away to actually get a glimpse of what is to come.

Brotato! Holy smokes dude, it's good to see you again! I missed these comments. First off and foremost, I do have to acknowledge that there was one factor I didn't mention: specifically the armor / skills / aesthetic of the equipment you can craft from a given monster. That definitely would reinforce ideas of familiarity, for sure. You're absolutely right on this. But what you said about how these are good things, all together, under the Monster Hunter Community? Is exactly the type of message I want to drive home. There are a lot of good memories, regardless of what generation you were introduced to the series in. And it's important to remember, that even if someone's exposure to Monster Hunter is limited, that doesn't diminish the validity of their votes, nor does it invalidate how special the memories and experiences are that we got to share in together.
@brotatochipsz42948 ай бұрын
@@CoyoteWildfire Exactly. It's not so much what franchise that you enjoy it should be that everyone has enjoyed this game from the moment that they first landed on it and that they are now creating their own memroies. From old to new. Those who are veterans to those who are new to it. We shouldn't immediately be ones to just shut them down or say "Oh of course it's from this gen." Instead of having such a negative appeal. Simply say "Hey if you happen to enjoy that hunt. Check this one out on youtube! Tell me what your thoughts are!" Or introduce them some how to even allow them to experience such a thing. Show them the ways to get to enjoy other portions of this vastly growing game and have them understand why some hunts might even be better then what they think. The main take away from this should also be we are one big community who enjoys this game. This isn't a PVP game this is a game where you go with friends and create a new experience...New memories with each hunt that you can go on. It's just something that should be cherished, enjoyed, and shared with others to be helping flourish this community. This is one of the greatest communities to be apart of. To honestly have this chance to be part of such a community where there is no negativity at all towards one another and just simply moments where even if it's a loss...It created those moments that we could laugh about, learn, and enjoy and just go right back in without even so much as a second thought of being upset with. Cause it just means a new experience is about to happen when you embark on each new quest whether it's with friends or future friends. For a side note though I feel they would still make this work with having the armor still look as epic as it does and to have the skill sets and such. I think that's what most people were gathering fromt his. BUT! I could be wrong. As seeing Zinogre as you mentioned in the number 1 slot I get that a lot of people liked the big fluffy lightning doggo and me personally I liked Odogoron...He was fun, watching the big doggo do cat stuff or what ever. Bein all crafty. XD But I was also surprised that not many went to pick Val Hazaak...He was a pretty interesting one to fight...While I know it was a pain in the ass for the whole fact that he can reduce your health down to next to nothing and then one tap ya. XD It's a bit of a bitch. BUT! That being said though I thought it bought about more strategy and understanding that..."Hey he big bad dangerous! Don't step near him to much." XD I also think the reason why some of the bigger monsters got up in there is also cause of the fact that this was something that bought about an entire new view on a siege mode. Granted yes it was with bigger and better graphics but also understand that these are monsters that had left a big impact like Safi Jiva...His big attack being the sort of "Saphire star" of sorts and can you blame people on this? It was a brilliant take on it. I digress though cause this was one of the few as well as the first one being Kulve' Taroth. Who bought about the whole start of a siege...At least to the worlds...I hope to see others like this in wilds or maybe if we actually get big world events...A giant raid boss. This to me would be something that would be amazing to have happen and if the idea gets bought about where it's not just 4 hunters anymore and you can have a bigger squad. This could lead to bigger things and make it even more interesting. While I understand this wasn't about theory crafting I just have been having many thoughts about this as well. Just like imagine having to gather about certain pieces to summon a monster? Kinda like what you had done in the end game portion of Iceborne. How you were able to lure out certain monsters. This time imagine it brings about a raid monster and the entire landscape changes based on the whole monster you had decided to lure out sort to speak. :P It's just a thought and could be interesting and I really don't wanna get peeps hopes up but just throwing something like this out there.

It's important to celebrate that and I hope you know how much I appreciate when you weigh in on conversations. At the crux of it, I think you nailed it when you mentioned inclusive language. Instead of gatekeeping, or berating new players for not experiencing older games, we could help introduce them to bigger parts of the series. Like you said, "Awesome how you liked this, try this KZbin video because I want to know what you think!" Things like that help invite and include newer players, and graft them into earlier experiences, biomes, or monster designs that they wouldn't have experienced otherwise. They're at a bit of a disadvantage when we think about how difficult it is to obtain the older games, you know? They're not easily accessible, and I would LOVE to see Capcom release a Monster Hunter bundle of some sorts, where the first four games in the series came in a collection. It would be SUCH a great way to get newer players involved in the earlier Monster Hunter experiences.

@CoyoteWildfire8 ай бұрын
I absolutely understand where you're coming from--the Fifth Gen was FAR more accessible. Not only was it worldwide, it was released on multiple platforms that were historically separated from one another. World was also the first mainline game released on PC. You're absolutely right to mention this. The bias itself isn't a negative thing--nor is it a criticism for the way the Fifth Fleet cast their votes. Instead, it's meant to illustrate the point that a Fifth Fleeter wouldn't vote for say, Gigginox, since they've never had a real experience with it. The bias itself is a symptom of this greater availability across multiple platforms. It's part of the relationship of cause and effect. You get games in front of more people, regardless of the hardware they're playing on, and you'll get more sales. More sales means that more new people will be experiencing the game for the first time, and experiencing the game for the first time means preference for that first game they experienced. So although it wasn't overlooked, you're right in that I didn't directly mention how many more people could experience Monster Hunter on their platform of choice worldwide!

If we were to swap the ratio, where we add Monsters present in 5th Gen but introduced earlier (45%), and Monsters not at all present in the 5th Gen (20%), it would be a total of 65%, which is still a majority. Ultimately, Lagiacrus in the Top 3, and Abyssal Lagiacrus in the Top 20, were a good message for Capcom to hear, imho. And my favorite was #1, so I'm personally not complaining, myself. :)

If the 5th played all the games or knew at least most of the monsters it would be a lot different.
@CoyoteWildfire8 ай бұрын
Probably would, but again, bear in mind that the 5th Fleet also experienced the 5th Generation first, and that first impression is really long-lasting. I think it would definitely be different, but perhaps not as much as we might think.

Two nerges being in the top ten is so ridiculous. Theres never been such an overrated monster before.
@CoyoteWildfire8 ай бұрын
I personally wouldn't go that far... Clearly there are a lot of people who really liked Nergi, even if it wasn't one you cared for much. I'm personally not that big a fan of him either, haha.

Literally lagiacrus had the same thing and there's 3 of them

@@dragonslayer3552 same with ZInny and Fatalis, fwiw.

Imo Zinogre is the most overrated, that shock puppy had won the last one two and Styngin almost got into top ten all while it showing up since its introduction
@CoyoteWildfire8 ай бұрын
@@raisp6073 that's entirely fair. With Zinny being my favorite Monster, I was obviously happy with the result, but I definitely can understand where you're coming from here! Who did you hope for 1st Place?
