I figured out what the squiggly thing with the field around it does: nuclear detonation suppressor. o!O Shotgun cannon in berzerker mode is hellishly effective if you can get it up to max fire rate, and then remember to back your cursor off while you're aiming so you get a good spread. Alpha protocol in berzerker gets you the 5th and 6th watchtowers. Cobalt coil gun in hermit is your friend, too. :) Flares regenerate - to cover more area at once, fire multiples in a close spread. Nuking the ground blobs and orange tanks gets you Carpet Bomber x however many you splash, but apparently the thorny things are immune to bombing.

I haven't finished watching the entire thing yet, admittedly, but seeing that first death reminded me how important passive shield repulsion (unlocked by Shield Reflex iirc) is with Hermit. You don't have nukes to clear clouds of nastiness that throw invulnerable nukes at you, but your shield passively pushing many of them aside is something of a great help. I would argue extra gun upgrades and that is more important than even something as nice as early automation.

Can’t wait for the berserk build. Much more fun and difficulty to play the all offensive build. Just make sure to avoid all sheild regen and shield upgrade in general since they will be wasted. Make sure to purposely break your shield day one or two to get it as fast a possible. The out posts are very important in this build since the cloaking zapper enemies will target them FIRST rather then instantly ending the run. Almost every nuke, outpost, and main gun upgrade need to be had before any of the berserk specific upgrade for those weapons will appear as a heads up so you don’t attempt the run and never see any of the cool stuff.

personally i blame james for being the devil on your shoulder about not getting regen shields last time ;) there is a hidden bonus for getting the nukes and not firing them but no extra mode yet, but is early days Picking up the nuclear lab destroys the blackmarket for reasons

It's not the squid circle that eats nukes. It's the one that shows up at a later stage and doesn't fire it just floats there with a passive aura. It showed up at 34:57 on the right. Any nukes that enter the aura just don't explode like they just get warped out of existence.

I think someone mentioned that the research tab (at the top of the upgrade screen) shows the tech trees. I don't know how helpful that is, in practice, but I'd be curious to see what it looks like, if nothing else.

Ultra Caraoke when? >D Worth pointing out that the split shots have better coverage than you think. When all kinds of shots are raining down, splitting your shots up to act as an umbrella works very well. Every shot imparts a push back on things. Particularly for the flashing nuke shots that come in, they're all susceptible to being shot off course or slowed significantly by firing at them. Split your shots and you can juggle the incoming stuff long enough for your turrets to finish them off, or just deal with them yourself. Focused fire seems to work better for the large units only.

i really think the extra outpost towers, would be better as overall pd focus effect. just them protecting themselves from incoming bullets, makes them more effective staying alive in a pinch. rather then the often domino effect of them dying. that being said, i wonder how good a tower focus would be with arc build combo.

I like that they have something like Nova Drift's supermods, but yes, more different things would be good. Like maybe a tesla field. If you have regenerative shields and arc flail, then when you would regen shields at 100%, it instead amplifies the range and power of your arc flail for the next discharge. And if things get close, the tesla field gives them lots of faster but weaker zaps that get faster and weaker the closer the thing gets to you.

Laser watch towers are not that great. They double the regen time and during those late waves that's a death sentence. I like to upgrade the main gun and arc flail first since they are just better for survivalbility

I gotta say, I'm not really a fan of this game. There's nothing inherently wrong with it really, but the playstyle and general run length are just not pleasing to me. In much the same way watching someone driving carelessly drift ever so slightly closer to the parked cars on the side of the road and wincing when things get very close hoping they are able to right the course before a crash.. but in this game the crash is the game over, and it always shows up, rarely is it something you can really see coming, things just become so overwhelming so quickly. And I get that there are builds.. kind of.. but so far most runs seem to feel roughly the same.
