Andertons, hands down, provides the most entertaining, and value added videos on music gear on KZbin. I enjoy watching the moog videos as well as anything fender related. Thank you for putting these out. I own a grandmother, and will be looking at a matriarch in the near future. Something moog should look at in the future is a matriarch design that could allow a mother32/dfam/subharmonicon to mount to the back, like the 2 or 3 tier racks, but the brackets built into the sides of a key synth.

A Moog Model 10 costs $10k, has only 3 Oscillators (Matriarch has 6), no sequencer, no delay, and no keyboard. Yes, the Model 10 has an awesome filter bank, but you can do a lot of things with that extra $8k? The Matriarch is a bargain!
@bluehole6019
@bluehole6019 4 жыл бұрын
redirishmanxlt the model 10 is a very different synth. I absolutely DON’T think it’s worth $10k, it would be a much more realistic price at around $3.5K. But Moog is selling them as collector’s items, essentially. They understand that most casual synth enthusiasts aren’t interested in diving into something as unforgiving and complicated as a model 10/15, so they price accordingly. All Moog synths are overpriced, really. Although they’re some of my favorite, we’re really buying a name with a lot of what they have to offer.
@Robert-kx8mp
@Robert-kx8mp 4 жыл бұрын
Blue Hole no, just because the industry is suddenly flooded with equivalent of fake Rolex watches, that doesn’t mean small manufacturers like Moog with 250 employees and maybe 8M in revenue are overpriced, do you really think anyone at Moog are getting rich by as you claim it overpricing their instruments? what about selling fake watches, is that guy getting rich?
@bluehole6019
@bluehole6019 4 жыл бұрын
Robert Moog synths are pretty objectively overpriced for what they are. Actually, I’m a watch enthusiast and Rolex is a great example to back up my point. All Rolex actually has is a name, branding, heritage. Their movements are a step up from what you’d find in your average watch, but there’s a reason Tudor exists. Tudor is made BY Rolex, same parts, same materials, same quality and craftsmanship, but guess what it’s missing? A stamp that says Rolex on the face. That’s why a Tudor Black Bay and a Submariner have about a $4,000 price difference. And the knockoff metaphor backs up my point as well. The market IS flooded with fake Rolexes, lots of them are made identical to Rolex to a TEE, and you can get them for ~$500. But someone who’s shopping for a Rolex isn’t a casual horological enthusiast, they’re people who are willing to pay a premium for someone to look down and see the word Rolex on their wrist. I.E, people with money. You can literally go online and buy a “Rolex” right now, same parts, same build quality, same everything. For like, 1/20 of the price, but that doesn’t affect the price of a real Rolex because Rolex aren’t marketing to people who want a fake. A Daytona is tied with an Omega Seamaster as my favorite watch of all time, and I’d personally buy one at full price if I ever came into some money. I can’t bring myself to buy a fake, because it doesn’t seem right, even though Rolex is NOT hurting financially and, again, it’s essentially the same product. That’s why “pride of ownership” was invented by marketing teams. To make people who are too broke to buy something as extravagant as a Rolex feel bad for getting what’s really the next best thing, because nobody without a microscope will be able to tell, and realistically they’re so well made that you’d still have to be an expert to differentiate. So yes, Rolex is fundamentally overpriced, and they built their whole brand on that idea. Getting back to the synth side of things, that’s all Moog has; brand name, good marketing, and heritage. They have a history of being pioneers and innovators in the synth world, (although that was really Bob Moog, not anyone who’s at the company currently) and they were the first company to do what they do and they got it VERY right on the first try. But there’s actually a replica synth market as well, you can go to Club Of The Knobs, Synthesizer.com, even BEHRINGER soon, (I’ve owned both a Moog model D and the BEHRINGER clone) and get a clone of a model 15 for much less money than what you can buy a Moog for. And the only difference is that one panel says COTK or Behringher and the other says Moog.

25:13 That's interesting, in the Grandmother manual they say you can use it as a mixer, but only for Audio signals, not for CV signals. I always thought the only difference between an LFO or Envelope out and an Oscillator out is the frequency and it's all somewhere in the -5 to +5 (or -8 to +8 or whatever) range. Edit: Probably has something to do with the outputs you're combining having to be 'AC Coupled' in the Grandmother. Not entirely sure what thaty means. But yeah in the Matriarch manual it does say you can combine CV signals and Audio signals, so it does seem to be a different Mult design.
@shaft9000

AC = bipolar voltage = goes to + and - , with 0 in the middle = produced by audio signals and looping modulators, bipolar tends to be cyclical DC = unipolar voltage = 0 to + only = produced by envelopes, pulses, gates, S&H etc, unipolar tends to be momentary I say "tends to be" since functions such as inversion, offsets and rectiification may alter these signal to be used as uni or bi.

What would the difference be going this route vs something like a Subsequent 37? I want a synth that has some growling bass and just great, diverse bass sounds and for some reason all the videos I've watched on this, the minimoog, even the behringer model d seem to have these kind of clearer, more incorporated top end sizzle that add to this "vintage" almost acoustic if you will, bass sounds. Looks like a bag of haribo , very boutique with matched pricetag, a modular user will look elsewhere and a gigging musician also ,what is the target audience of this?

Wilco, radiohead, mogwai, about 1,000 other bands. Like the great Moogs off the past, this thing is going to be all over records for years.

well at least it sounds better than the moog one thats for sure , no synth released today can compare to the greats of yesteryear , the component side (equivalents) has changed much of the sound , analogs today sound harder and more brittle wich of course can be something you like or dislike

they talk a lot and at the end they play shitty sounds... but they are paid so they overact the "wow" reactions.

Was there a woke feminist on the product design team at Moog ? Apart from the bizarre new (ish) naming convention, the synth sounds good - but looks bloody awful. Like the Realistic / Tandy Concertmate, but worse. Just Garish and painful on the eyes.
