A guy I used to play with in the church band had a band in the 80s. His Moog pedal broke on the road. He went to a music shop to see if he could find another one. The guy said “well, I’ll just build you one. Come back tomorrow.” Confused, he said, umm, okay. You can...build it? My friend comes back the next day and a there is a beautifully built piece of specialized equipment. Turns out it was Robert Moog himself.

@@DUHvendra You'd have a point if I claimed to be the guy I'm talking about. I'm retelling the story, which of course you'd have to expect I'm going to get some details wrong. Totally acknowledge that. I don't remember every detail. He told this to me almost 10 years ago. Had I heard this last week, I'd probably be a little more precise than saying "some Moog pedal." He was more descriptive of what it was, when, and where. I just don't remember specifically. The point is, he's a credible person, an amazing professional keyboard player, and I believed him. I have a hard time believing he just made it up. The core of the story I remember is, he was on the road using Moog gear. I don't remember specifically, but I seem to remember it was some sort of foot controller that broke. He couldn't find a replacement. He was referred to someone to get a replacement for it. To my friend's surprise He got a replacement a short time later from the guy who, to my friend's surprise, actually built it. And upon receiving the equipment, it turned out to be Robert Moog.

Really 10k are nothing (even if you're poor, I'm speaking from experience). You can spare 10k in less than one year, if you really want it. Just spare every penny you can, take any opportunity to win any money, sell old useless stuff, stop useless recurrent expenses (you can live one year without Internet! That's 500 spared, 5% of the price!) etc.

I got to spend 90 min's playing the synth the other day with a nice amp. These are my thoughts. -I think it sounds Great! When people comment on the sound of a synth over the internet, I think it's important to realize a) you're at the mercy of the guy playing it, and the guy creating the sound. Most people are listening on their small computer speakers over the compressed Internet. If you're evening considering this synth, you know that the magic is in the subtlety of the sound, and you ain't capturing that diff over the internet. -IMHO, It's worth $8000. Many people love to say, "my Ob6 sounds just as good, my $150 soft synth is just as good...etc, etc. Well, we all know soft synths sound great, but there's more to that than the story. A) In order to really know what sounds better, you need to hear them in the same room, not over the internet. b) do they sound just as good when the sound is being modulated, when you're turning the filter, as opposed to a static sound. c) Then, there's also the number of features in the synth, as well as its usability. I'm not knocking the OB6, but for 2.5x the price, you're getting 3 osc's versus 2, 4 LFO's versus 2, more envelopes than the OB6, a far deeper sequencer, etc...Most importantly, you essentially get 3 completely independent synths in one with the Moog One. On the OB6, you can't even layer 2 sounds. In my opinion, the discussion is not one of the total cost of the synth, but rather the value, and the value of the Moog One, in my opinion, far exceeds that of the Ob6 due to its feature set. What other polyphonic analog synth, other than the Andromeda, offers a Moog Ladder Filter (with ability to be either HP or 24db, 12db, 6db), as well as a solid state variable filter with the ability to decide which osc goes to which filter (or both) in the mixing section, as well as the ability to blend the amount of solid state filter versus the Moog Ladder Filter. Honestly, I think it's really important for people to play the synth before they comment. It's pretty clear that Moog put an enormous amount of time into developing this synth, and it shows. At least go to your local music store and play it. I'm quite confident most of the people making negative comments will be quite impressed upon hearing the thing in person. I spent 20 minutes just playing with the blend of my sound between the Ladder Filter and the SSV filter. Fantastic! -Moog shipped the synth too early. Dear Moog (and other synth makers), do more testing. Don't ask your customers to be your testers. It wastes our time, causes us stress and erodes our trust. Having said this, I'm sure the Moog One will be great with a couple of firmware updates. -I have a MemoryMoog Plus. The One could absolutely live beside it, and although I need 12 more hours on the One, my feeling upon leaving the store is that the Moog One sounds just as good in its own right. To be 100% sure of this, I need them side by side to do an A/B test. (Note, I didn't say they sound the same, I said they sound equally good in their own right. I wouldn't want them to sound the same. What would be the point of that). -To those that say, this synth is limited to being "just another subtractive synth," I say, no it's not. No other polyphonic analog synth has remotely the feature set the One has with the exception of the Andromeda. The fact that the One has 3 completely independent layers is mind-boggling when you think about it, and it gives you a MASSIVE sonic palette unrivalled by any other Analog Polyphonic ever made. Remember, one synth can't do it all, which is why - if you're looking at an $8000 synth - you probably own a couple of other synths as well. This synth may make some of them redundant, but won't and shouldn't replace them all. -It's a Great Time to be Alive! When was the last time 2 monster synths came out in the same year that rivalled some of the magical synth moments we've had in the past. I'm talking about the Quantum and the One. With these 2 synths, you can conquer the Sonic World! But, But, But, you must go play them in person, so that you can appreciate the immense sonic subtleties of these two synths, as well as the fact that they're basically both MODULAR POLYPHONIC SYNTHS! The routing capability on these 2 synths is Amazing!!! Well done Waldorf & Moog. Now, put out some damn good, deep "How To" Vids taking all of us through each and every section of the synth. (I apologize if I made a couple errors on the Ob6. It's been a while since I played one in person). I did own the Prophet 6, although I sold it, but the two synths are very similar. Basically, the Ob6 is a re-skin of the Prophet 6 with a Multi-Mode Filter).
