You can do whatever you want on your moon in your solar system as long as you're alone.

Reminds me of the the Spirou and Fantasio album "Z is for Zorglub" from 1961 where Zorglub wrote text across the surface of the moon to be seen from Earth, to display his grandeur (and ego). But accidentally ended up writing it wrong. I always thought it was a good example of how we will do anything in self interest without stopping to, well, think about the bigger picture.

I thought video killed the radio star back in the ‘80s

I appreciate your insights Dr Sutter...glad you're still around. I feel your channel should be as big as Fraser Cain's.

Instead of building a big but sloppy radio telescope on the moon - which will require an in-situ industrial base - how about get a proper lunar economy going and build an array of radio scope sats that spans the solar system. Think about the scale of things lunar industry opens up. Now think bigger.

The Lunar Crater Radio Telescope proposal would be looking at wavelengths longer than 10 m. The signals a telescope like that could detect would only be disrupted by *huge* surface features along the crater's surface - like, big enough for the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter to be able to detect them. If we really wanted to, large boulders could probably be broken up into smaller pieces that wouldn't create interference.

By the by- the beard looks great but the dark beard with the dark shirt kind of looks a little Bond Villain-ish- couple that with talking about conquering and enslaving the moon and Mike Myers might be giving you a ring soon about an opportunity to star as a Austin Powers reboot villain! :)

Agreed, let's treat the moon with the utmost care & consideration, & be sure that there's general international agreement before building & developing & conducting any major activities on the moon that might significantly impact it. P.S. Love the intensifying beard, Dr. Space Guru 👳🏽♂! 😊

Should take the moon apart (mercury too) and turn them into cylinders so we can move all the heavy polluting industry, we are so dependent on, off earth.

Sooner or later, we're going to need the resources from the moon. We should definitely go about it diplomatically but we should not slow our progress by these complaints. I guarantee that China and a few other countries don't care about these issues. We cannot afford to fall behind their technological development any more than we already have. We may not all like how the moon looks or what may become of it but we can't stall our efforts for these reasons. It's just not warranted.

At the moment it seems possible that Elon Musk will persuade the U.N. will declare the moon a leased property of his corporation.

Nah, he says the moon is a "distraction" and that we should be focusing our efforts on trying to get people directly from Earth to Mars 🤭

And, yet, before such an audacious project has lost the PristineNoiseInterferenceFreeZoneEnvironment already before anything has begun! Go figure? {/}
