Those were plastic bags over the victims faces in the quick sand. She saw a bag floating in the wind prior and a premonition of having a bag pulled over her head to suffocate her earlier.

I thought, in order to understand the story itself, one should perhaps think in terms of Lovecraftian concepts. Ie,. we can't put the story within the time frame that is presented. The story spans more than 5,000 years and what happens to these unfortunate people has been predestined by the spiritual energy that is the Moor itself. The number 5 is a constant within the story, Danny looked like he was about 5 years old, Claire perhaps 10. the story commences 25 years later, maybe there were 5 children taken into the Moor. The Moor [perhaps] every 5,000 years needs the energy of 5 children to satiate itself and survive as a living organic entity. Here in Ireland some believe you should never go to the bogs at night or the Banshee will get you. [A common myth told to us by parents keeping us from wandering too far]. The physical events in the movie, I believe, are the unfortunate consequences of the 5,000 year sacrifices demanded by the Moor, along with multiple sheep. Whether or not the ending was Claire's dream, the Moor was at peace. Personally I don't think it was a dream, but I think the Moor swallowed her along with Danny's father, who at least came to rest with his son...and they all became either rings on the monolith or standing stones sunken into the Moor.. ooooohhhhh Halloween a coming....ps. I don't believe anything in the story alludes to demonic influences. I believe the Moor to be neither evil nor good, but an ancient energy with many elemental forces that can take the shape of whatever is needed to sustain itself. Banshee's, little men, faeries.....

I love this! The problem is the screener we had ended with Bill and Danny hugging at the moor and we didn't get the podcast ending, I've only JUST heard about that I really wish we could have seen that ending, it may have changed the way we thought about it.
@alexandramckinley92653 ай бұрын
@@SledgehammerHorror the podcast inclusion was only for a few seconds where she states shes going to tell the real story..then it quickly shifts to her being panicked distressed and abducted and taken to the Moor. Commentators below have suggested that the Moor sequence/ending may be a dream.... but I believe the podcast brief scene is in actual fact her dream... a reflection of her previous comforted life before all the madness ensued, she perhaps divulged the real story of her theft in the shop on the podcast, thereafter, bringing Danny's father to find her.....

The five rings represent five sacrifices. Also the blind sheep they saw turned into the monolith stones who I think represented the dead children. I think the poor guy in prison body had been borrowed by the moor so the guy in prison was an innocent. I think he ran away genuinely as he was innocent

oh, that's amazing. I need to re watch it again and pick up on all these things.

There's a part to the film that plays into the national psyche. Look up Ian Brady and Myra Hindley and you'll understand another level the film works on. That is, it plays on something that is forever linked with the Lancashire and Yorkshire Moors. I agree with the person who speaks about the stones the locals know that, from to time, the moor demands a sacrifice. I believe the police officer she consulted knew all along it was The Moor and that the person they convicted was, in effect, innocent, which is why he tries to dissuade her from searching that part of the moor. He knows that's where the power emanates from as do most of the older locals.

Why do we see Claire about to talk about the Moor on her podcast just before the final scene? When was this have meant to have happened? Maybe the police were in on everything and understood that the Moor had to be satiated, thus they intentionally messed up the case and let the killer "escape" on the moor? I think that the moor can both posess and shapeshift. I suspect that the killer was a real man posessed by the moor and that we never saw his face because he was not the driving force for the crimes, merely a puppet or vessel for the moor itself. I think that never seeing the killer's face was just meant to reinforce this. We saw Alex' face perfectly when the moor shapeshifted to look like him. The moor probably stopped for a while in that particular area when the posessed killer was arrested because people were aware and cautious following the crimes - probably just biding its time. Those are just my ideas!

This is brilliant. I love how open to interpretation this movie is and you make a lot of VERY good points!

At the beginning Claire said "I never go up there" but when they find the totem she said she felt like she had been here before. At the beginning she steps onto the moor grass and it is as if she "feels" the fear and panic that she and the entire community had about The Moor. Overall, I think The Moor was a symbolic representation of the unknown...the unexplainable things that happen in life...the vastness of fear and trauma. It had become a place that nobody ever went anymore. After the summer of disappearances, that place that they used to go "berry picking" became feared. To the point where they moved away to avoid facing it at all. After watching the ending and listening to the explanation you shared (TY btw❤) I think the movie was about Claire accepting the unknown. The part of her that couldn't talk about the horror and trauma of Danny's disappearance is who we saw die in The Moor. Claire lived and was finally able to talk about it and understand how sometimes awful things just cannot be explained. I think her visit with Bill made her realize that she shouldnt allow fear, trauma, and trying to find explanations for the evil shit that happens in the world dictate her life. I loved this movie. And will probably watch it multiple times. It has so many scenes and conversations throughout that really shed light on how humans cope with past trauma.

A demonic entity can shape shift and remain in its host for a particular amount of time, hours months or years, i think that explains a lot of things in the film. On another point why did you guys not cover the bit when shes leaving the house and is talking on her podcast at the end, it felt like to different endings to me?

On the screener we got we didn't have that ending!!! I didn't know anything about that.

The ending might be Claire dreaming again, whilst dreaming prosessing her thaughts and experiences and connecting to the darkness of the moor. In her dream she is taunted by her guilt and is so to speak punished by her inner demons, also justice is served by the reunion of father and son in a twisted sense!

the part i found confusing was how it jumped from Claire recording that she was ready to talk to the final sequence with the father.....was the final sequence one of Claires nightmares? was her getting away after Bill standing outside her door in the night the dream? what happened inbetween, that allowed Bill or whatever to take her? i found the movie mostly good but the ending felt lacking cohesion
@SledgehammerHorror3 ай бұрын
The screener version we got didn't have that ending! Ours stopped before that, it ended at the moor when bill and his son were reunited. That's insane to me.

@@SledgehammerHorror yes that was the same, i was meaning between her talking into microphone saying she was ready to talk, then bam the body cam of being taken back to the moor by bill. i wasnt sure if the end moor scene bill then the swamp bodies was one of her nightmares. was a shame, the movie did was building well then the end left me WTF.

I was really liking the movie, until, towards the end, she goes home and starts talking in her podcast, and then, OUT OF NOWHERE, she appears back in the moor with the guy pointing the gun at her. It made no sense, she went home and then just appeared all the way back there with no explanation. It completely ruined the movie.

I thought this movie was really good and it took me a couple of times three times actually finish this movie cuz I was tired and I kept falling asleep but I kept going back to it or I fell asleep and I never lost the tension from where I picked up from where I left off it seems to have stayed with me and like I said I wanted to recall that no idea what it was about absolutely no idea but I forgot about it for a couple of days and then oh yeah I want to go back and finish watching that movie and I went back a couple of days later again took me three times and like a week to watch this movie but the movie stayed with me and I didn't forget what I saw and I kept wanting to see what was going on I don't know if she was slow Burns movies has been a bunch of them that kind of get crazy at the end and it's kind of cool you know what I like fast-paced movies I don't mind the slow burn the cinematography was great too ,the score was great really really intense and then the ending of the movie was totally totally wild and those goats showed up and the dad and all that stuff and I do believe that there was probably some ancient evil in the Moors from back you know prime evil days or have you not that needed to get fed and clear probably was the original person and I think bill got really obsessed obsessed with getting his son back and of course apparently his marriage fell apart you can stop poking holes in stories but then that kind of takes away from the enjoyment of the movie well it could have been shorter half hour like you said yes and no I think those long pauses that you that you mentioned were there on purpose to give you like that dread like these people just like tired and you just going through the motions over and over with 25 years you know and so I think and just being driven obviously they feel they feel for Bill and is relentless pursuit of finding his son's body you can imagine how other people in real life feel that lose their children never find them with all the people and kids that go missing in the world I stopped watching true crime basically because of that because it just got so discouraging to watch and hear the true story of people got missing never found all the horrible things happen to people in real life is like I don't know how people can live with you know that's horror and that despair in their lives because that's what true crime shows really do you know I mean while they saw the crime and sometimes they don't think about all the unsolved crimes and all these bodies that have found that no one knows who they are 40 years later that finding out who it was but if your children girlfriend and it's like you know what happens all the time it's like I have to stop watching that stuff and just bring your life is other things to focus on then just have this kind of dreadful thing in your life all the time that's just my opinionI thought through the ending of the movie was really good because some clues that the girl was mistaken and got to get into that to the movie that cuz I was the one the only wanted at the end of the that wasn't his son because how can I give him back a young kid so they needed to feed the Moors again and I think that was her guilt and it kind of build up suspense in the energy and the dread in her she was like the perfect sacrifice so she had all of it in her I like darkness the feet upon the other lost souls need it more in the end I really like this movie I always like to watch anything explain channels just to see how other people think about movies and their endings I thought your channel was kind of cool the way you broke it up and I watch more of your stuff 4 out of 5 definitely a good movie cuz I went back to it and went back to it and I was never like lost and when I get movies like The devil's bath I got it like right away without knowing anything about it I like Cole watches that I have no clue what's going on any God bless you all and hope you're having a good day
