The Mooring Hitch Is A Great Quick Release Knot

The Mooring Hitch - also known as the Rolling Hitch or Pile Hitch - is a very easy quick release knot. It is not recommended for climbers or tying down anything for a long period of time. However, it's applications are great for tying a horse to a post or a kayak to a dock for a short time.

There is a much easier way to tie that knot. Around the post as normal then create a loop with the working end. Lay it across the top of the leading rope and push a second loop over the loop, under the leading rope and over the other side of the first loop. done.
