I have had a moose valve for around 10 years now, love it and wouldn't change it, will purchase another one when it finally wears out

I wholly agree this is the best valve available. I have had mine for years and it never fails. Others that I had tended to allow leakage back up the blow stick, this one is 100% secure.

I've been using Moose valves in all my pipes for several years now. Much less prone to damage than a traditional flapper valve. An outstanding product.

Another great video! I hadn’t really thought about sanitizing my Moose Valve but I guess I should. Out of sight, out of mind. I also have a Little Mac valve in a 2nd set of pipes. I’ve had it for 40 years and it still works - and yes, I did clean it ;-)

I have a ross valve in my blowpipe stock, and it works as a basic moisture trap as well. Although the rubber valve is getting worn away after 3 years of playing, but I think the rubber valve is replaceable , so don't have to buy a full ross valve again.

After watching this video, I’m going to replace my flapper valve with a moose valve to get better blowing and squeezing in my pipes.
@OliVersed3 жыл бұрын
I doubt this would fit my Flemish pipes. The diameter of the blowpipe is a lot smaller. The valve that's on there now sometimes fails. Not often but when it does, oh boy my bad breath hits me right in the face. Love the pipes
@MattWillisBagpiper3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the Moose Valve is about 3/4 an inch across. It's too big for anything but highland pipes methinks.

I see this video has been around awhile, but I was wondering if you had any ideas (and might even make another video) how to use a Moose valve with a split blow-pipe stock....
@MattWillisBagpiper3 жыл бұрын
Depending on the diameter of the tube, some folks have put it at the end of the tube.

I was really excited for a moment, I was hoping this was about valve drones or tone enhancers, the information about those is incredibly hard to come by, purists say stay away, some folk swear by them, I can’t find an unbiased opinion anywhere, I can’t even read up on if you need drone reeds or if the valve is a Reed of its own, if only there was a video about them ;0)
@MattWillisBagpiper4 жыл бұрын
It's on the list, believe me. The hard part is trying to acquire all of them to compare and contrast!
@jamesmarshall4744 жыл бұрын
@@MattWillisBagpiper it’s a mine field, it would be extremely difficult, some say K-valve are the best and many other opinions are out but it is all extremely subjective, I have opted to buy the ezeedrone increased absorption reeds with the shepherd tone enhancers, in all truthfulness I have used standard ezeedrones for 20 years with a standard bottle water trap and have no complaints but it’s a rock’n’roll world, keep up or get out of the way!!!!

I've have tried everything, and I've gone back to a hide bag and no valves. I guess that's one of the reasons I haven't made the video. I'm not entirely sure why so many wont' play on hide bags. Synths are super easy to tie in, but the "cost of ownership" is quite high. With a goatskin bag, I have no need for moisture control or valves. On any standard bag, I'd often at least need a valve in the bass and some sort of moisture control.

@@MattWillisBagpiper I’ve only ever played hybrid bags, the thought of seasoning and what not always seems like such a chore, I would put a large part down to marketing as with lost things but the most part is pipers are always looking to improve or find reasons to solve what could make them better, I have always struggled to perform a quick attack despite being a grade 2 player and spending countless hours walking up and down the garden striking up an E, it has always never came comfortably, perhaps this will help, gotta live those magical problem solvers, that said it could just be more money up the spout

Does the moisture collected in the stock by the moose valve increase the risk of problems/cracking to a blackwood stock?
@MattWillisBagpiper3 ай бұрын
If you leave it in constantly, perhaps. I remove mine after playing to avoid this issue.
@KENAVLOG Жыл бұрын
Hi Matt, thanks for the detailed explanation ! Is it worth combining the Moose Valve with an anti-moisture trap system in the bag (plastic bottle) ? Doesn't it impact the necessary force of the blow?
@MattWillisBagpiper Жыл бұрын
The biggest obstacle in combining the two is making sure you don't insert the tube too far into the blowpipe stock, or it'll interfere with the Moose Valve. Otherwise they work great together, though many find the Moose valve alone provides enough moisture control to not need the tube. But every piper is different...

Has anyone ever tried Ross blowpipe valve? It look very similar to the Moose valve.... I wonder if it's as much as reliable
@MattWillisBagpiper2 жыл бұрын
I have not, but yes, it looks quite similar to the Moose valve.
@antoniousvaneyssen6164 жыл бұрын
You said you played saxophone before the pipes. I currently play saxophone, oboe and the pipes, and I struggle with moisture on the blow pipe while I'm playing which then leads to me not getting an airtight seal on the blowstick which then results in me not being able to play. Have you ever had similar problems and or how did you fix them?
@MattWillisBagpiper4 жыл бұрын
I'd try perhaps a different style mouthpiece. I use the Reed Wrangler: www.reedwrangler.net

Can you not loosen the valve with the included removal tool?
@kfossi19862 жыл бұрын
@@MattWillisBagpiper I got it out right after sending the message. I used the tool but... put a cloth on the end and used a pair of pliers to get a better grip. It took two people... one to hold the stock and one to pull with the pliers. It's crazy how much suction it creates.
@MattWillisBagpiper2 жыл бұрын
My goodness! Glad you got it out. No need to be in there that tight. I’ve used these for over a decade and remove after each gig, and it just takes a few seconds and three fingers on the tool to remove.

@MattWillisBagpiper4 жыл бұрын
For aesthetic reasons, I try to stay with the manufacturer's blowpipe... I'll often add a Reed Wrangler mouthpiece (thin and flat), as the round mouthpieces have started causing some dental issues for me.
