Still people often overlook the fact the republic had a thousand years to fix theses issues and this was when the sith weren’t in power now the sith maybe had something to do with it but it ONLY two of them so they couldn’t be everywhere at once now I would say the republic became complacent and the fact they didn’t immediately wipe out slavery while they had a military just shows you they didn’t care about anyone but themselves or where in on it and the Jedi while well meaning were blinded by arrogance and are nearly the same as the sith hence why anikan says I see through the lies of the Jedi because he saw as the rest of the galaxy did that they were same thing to prove this the Jedi 1: do nothing about slavery Support political parties who do hukk wars not sure if I spelled it right this is the story how general gervious became a cyborg 2: they where hell bent on killing anyone that disagreed with the order and or removed rival orders Declared you a dark Jedi or sith (heresy) and would send Jedi to kill you because they feel threatened by you Kidnapping children started major wars Be a ((Democracy)) aka one that only pretends to care about the people Sith 1: started major wars 2: hell bent on killing anyone that disagreed with them or was a rival to them 3: of you were a Jedi they would for one kill you outright 4: kidnapping children clone wars thank you for pointing that out with cad bane and all Started major wars would send sith or assassins to kill you Supported slavery Be a dictatorship

@@preciousotoakhia9789 They fell because they lost their way, they sacrificed their doctrine to try and win the Clone War. They became way to intertwined with the galactic government to the point where the Senate was dictating the Jedi Councils decisions. Something I’ve only realized as I’ve gotten older is how unpopular the political sentiment found during episodes II & III was in 2001-2005 America. Like we joke about how cheesy some of the dramatic lines are, or Anakin quoting George W Bush, but that was borderline subversive for the time. Whether you agreed with him or not, you have to respect the stones on George Lucas that during a time when Americans were out for blood, the PATRIOT ACT, and certain Toby Keith songs on the radio, Lucas used the series that he will be remembered for to say something he believed (even if it was very unpopular at the time.)

Let's underline the Patriot Act there. It is literally the same as the acts that followed the creation of the GRA. At least the war with the separatists was a legal war that the Senate agreed to and wasn't an act of dictatorial power disregarding the vote.

One need only look at history to see that Empire's are born and die, not in days, or years, but decades, the cracks form long in advance, not inevitably fatal, almost all can be fixed, but when enough get missed, exploited, or bungled by a succession of bad luck, bad rule, or bad intent, the right or wrong move can bring it all down. Things were already shaping up before Palpy was even born, but he played it beautifully, don't let the first sentence take anything away from him, whatever flaws the Republic had weren't necessarily fatal until Palpy made them so .

“I was very interested in the fall of the republic and the rise of the Galactic Empire. When Palpatine, supreme commander and the Republic’s highest executive authority tore off the visage of democracy to reveal his true desire for power, I knew that it was all finished. I thought the republic should’ve been providing for citizens’ welfare, but they oppress the lower class, political dissidents, and the non-humans. Heavy nationalization of industry, police-state legislation, and strengthening the executive branch and weakening the two other branches. Something to note as well, many characters in-universe will frequently talk about democracy when referring to the Republic. Meaning that few really understood the government of the Republic beyond a broad understanding. Which is basically a death sentence for Republics when their founding policies are forgotten by both its politicians and populace.

The Republic died when they decided to effectively make the Palpatine the senate at the start of the war. Along with their decision to abuse child/man soldiers and force them to fight as a slave army. Seriously though, that’s one of the reasons I love the Clone Wars because there isn’t a morally justified or good side. Both sides are very gray leaning towards evil. But at least the vast majority of Clones were shown to be nice and very empathetic guys. Maybe that’s why Palpatine had them replaced

I wouldve made that comparison but the roman empire still relied heavily upon the senate aproval in its first era, and towards it later eras it did too, however like star wars, rome was still huge and made most of its conquests even before it was an empire. Ironically that with rome if there was any institution that survived throughout its existence it WAS the senate.

Lucas' problem was that his eyes were bigger than his stomach. He understands themes and "big picture" stuff as well as anyone that has ever worked in Hollywood and his politics are pretty good too. He is also the reigning God Emperor of the Establishment Shot. But he cannot connect that to the little things like dialogue. He is also a horrendous "actor's director". He tired to merge about a dozen of Shakespeare's best plays into one narrative while paralleling the first 50 years of the 20th century. And do it all by himself. That would be rough for a creative staff of hundreds. We know, because they have gotten a staff of hundreds together in the intervening years to clean up Lucas' mess.

He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. When the Prequel Era inevitably gets a gritty reboot (hopefully several decades from now), I’d love to see a political thriller take place from at/around the beginning of Palpatine’s Chancellorship, thru the establishment of the New Order. The naive protagonist would see the thunderous Senate applause on the holonet and lament “So this is how the Republic dies...” to which the jaded deuteragonist would snap back “ ‘This’?? _This?!_ This is simply the last gasps of an already-dying government! The Republic died a long time ago, when our beloved -Emperor- Chancellor passed the Security Act (way back in the Pilot episode) !! We were just too blind to notice it back then...”

@@simonhirst3021 It'd probably take 10 minutes but what then? They could probably warn the Jedi and even tell the Senate. But there were literally 150 different contingency orders, with only 1 targeting the Jedi, and at least 2 targeting the Chancellor. Also, there's no proof that Palpatine is behind the creation of the Clone Army, as it was first commisioned by the Jedi Syfo Dias and later found by the Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi, and if they investigate further, they would find that Tyranus/Dooku was also behind it, a former Jedi and someone who's known to be close to Syfo Dias and the master of Kenobi's master, all very convenient. It wouldn't take much for Palpatine to twist this into a Jedi plot against the Republic, especially since the Jedi were already very unpopular by this point, and Palpatine has the unwavering support of much of the Senate. Order 66 would still be enacted, although many of the Jedi would be aware of the Clones' betrayal and will manage to escape, they'd be forced into exile and the Empire would rise regardless. Yeah the Jedi could try to kill Palpatine quickly, but attempting to assassinate the Supreme Chancellor wuold just make them look even worse, and I have no doubt that if Palpatine knew he can't turn Anakin, and can't win this fight, he would find a way to escape. Then everyone can see that the Jedi attempting a coup and Order 66 would still occur.

What we did not realize was that if you tried to take that freedom, they resist. The war taught us much. Humanity needed to surrender its freedom willingly. After the war, S.H.I.E.L.D. was founded, and I was recruited. The new HYDRA grew, a beautiful parasite inside S.H.I.E.L.D. For 70 years, HYDRA has been secretly feeding crises, reaping war. And when history did not cooperate, history was changed. Natasha Romanoff : That's impossible. S.H.I.E.L.D. would've stopped you. Dr. Arnim Zola : Accidents will happen. HYDRA created a world so chaotic that humanity is finally ready to sacrifice its freedom to gain its security. Once the purification process is complete, HYDRA's New World Order will arise. We won, Captain. Your death amounts to the same as your life, a zero sum! Just replace HYDRA with Sith and SHIELD with Jedi.

Yes. It was their sense of duty that Palpatine used against them. The entire war was designed to lure their fighting-age members into the field where they were surrounded by soldiers programmed to kill them on command. Then Vader (or Maul, in the original scheme) would have killed off the children, elderly and other non-combatants remaining at the Temple before hunting down any stray survivors using the Inquisitors and the Imperial military.

General Grievous1138 but padme was only barely showing circa 5 month pregnancy belly and got bigger throughout the film. Also look at everything that happened in that film. Yoda and Obi Wan both go on missions half way across the galaxy in the movie and take armies with them. How is it possible those operations were planned, supplied, organised and executed to completion nearly in 48 hours?
@GeneralGrievous-1138
@GeneralGrievous-1138 3 жыл бұрын
Brendan Doherty Her costumes were voluminous enough to hide the pregnancy to some degree. She was at nine months when she first appears on screen in ROTS. Those armies were likely already armed up and ready to go when Yoda and Obi-Wan took command, and while it is a continuity error in how fast they got to the Rim and back, that continuity error wouldn't be fixed by making ROTS take longer, as the Tantive III still would have had to have crossed the galaxy in a few hours no matter how you spin it.
@brendandoherty3401
@brendandoherty3401 3 жыл бұрын
General Grievous1138 that is all still dumb. I mean Star Wars has always had a problem of ridiculously high amounts of stuff squeezed into small time frames but ROTS was the one movie that seemed like you could easily say the editing made a longer passing of time seem natural and plausible in the movie. Now all we’ve got is episode 5 where Luke was on dagobah for 6 weeks while Han and Leia and Chewie flew to cloud city but that was edited to look like too little time passed so it’s all just confusing.

Speaking on the death of the Republic makes me think this is a good place to discuss my idea as to how the SW galaxy SHOULD be run. The holder of the executive office is elected and holds it until retirement, death or impeachment so that they need not worry about election funds or even popularity. They can work for what they believe is the betterment of the galaxy within the limits of the constitution. They CANNOT be a Force-wielder or have served at a rank higher than captain in the military. The Senate is broken up into many senates. There is a sector senate, where every planet in the sector has a voice, then a district senate representing several sectors and the sectors elect their representative. Then finally there's the High Senate on Coruscant, where each district is represented. Each senate deals with the problems of the area they are in charge of: Sectors deal with issues inside the sector, the High Senate deals ONLY with problems on a galactic level, etc. The Jedi have a central temple, but there is a smaller Jedi Temple on every planet. They recruit ONLY locals, and while they train younglings in the Force, said younglings can only choose to become a Jedi once they reach their majority as recognized for the species and on their planet. The Jedi will deal only with local problems: gang lords, corruption in the government, ending the slave trade. The Jedi are also taught to properly deal with their emotions and are allowed to marry and have families. The High Council deals with corruption in the High Senate and investigates the hopeful executive for a year before either allowing them to run or banning them, and if they are banned, the reason(s) must be shared with the media so that the public can understand why.

The irony of the *Military Creation Act* is the lack of a central military power/force is what basically led to the conditions that created the instability in the Republic the first place. It can be seen once again in the New Republic that made the same de-militarization mistake (albeit to a lesser extent) that the Ruusan Reformation did. The Galaxy is a _nasty place_ which in a power vacuum will become lawless, leading to a desire among the populace for any order and control, even if it becomes oppressive. In the Republic the lack of safety and order outside the Core systems is what created the circumstances for the Trade Federation and the CIS to arise in the first place - which was the long term plan of the Sith, although they exploited the opportunity that was already there. IMHO If something like the GAR (in power, not necessarily with Clones) had already existed then the Galaxy would have been a much more stable place. In fact that is what Ranulph Tarkin had proposed and had tried to implement, but he was _"unfortunately"_ killed in action. Had his mission not been sabotaged _(he was played for a sucker),_ and he had gone on to success and his proposed reforms been implemented… and Palpatine and Maul been killed in an unfortunate accident… then the Republic could have survived. Individual systems are just too weak to stand up to a determined foe, a large criminal group or Warlord, or even keep the peace. And what if the system itself is a bad actor? "We place ultimate authority to keep order in this sector in the hands of the Hutts"… [Sounds of muted cheering from the slaves being forced to applaud at blaster point]. Just look at the state of the Galaxy during the first blockade of Naboo [TFA]. Tatooine was not a good place to live… hereditary slavery is generally not a sign of a healthy society [and it wasn't even race/species based on conquest, which is the most common cause in Earth history ("unfortunate" if you were in the conquered group), along with punitive slavery]. And then there was wholesale slavery and oppression of races/species [I'm going to leave the Earth comparisons alone now] besides economic slavery. The Jedi had obviously been falling down on their calling. A powerful force was needed to keep the peace and enforce sentient rights, and just keep general law and order [🎶 donk donk] and in particular prevent piracy. *A possible stable system…* The Judicial Forces get teeth. A centralised patrol fleet, akin to the Coast Guard, but with enough firepower to enforce order. Ships and crew produced on an economy of scale so they are competent, and as a safety measure they are rotated between sectors to prevent them becoming the vassals of local powers. And as a backup a rapid reaction force of fast class 1 (or better) hyperdrive equipped heavy Destroyers to supplement local patrol ships when needed. And to keep everyone honest, the Jedi are used as corruption watchdogs and investigators, able to summon fleets at will if they find cause. _Knight Errants that can call in airstrikes._ But they are not the ones that launch the airstrikes, a professional military does that. And the Jedi also investigate the Senate for corruption. The state of the Galaxy couldn't have existed without a lot of Politicians looking the other way, receiving payoffs, or being the cause of the problems in the first place. For such a fleet the GAR ships with a few modifications would actually be ideal. A fast Frigate with a emphasis on ship to ship and anti Starfighter firepower as the standard patrol vessel (with a couple of ARC-170's for recon), and the Acclamator itself for dealing with planet side disturbances. One of those dropping in on a slave encampment would resolve the situation quickly. And for the rapid reaction hammer Venators with class 1 or even faster hyperdrives stationed at important junctions to deal with sudden opposition. A large fighter force would actually be appropriate for dealing with the common issues, as well as keeping the commanders honest as once launched, they have to rely on the loyalty of the pilots, whereas a Destroyers gunnery crew is onboard. And fighters can chase down criminals are just more versatile. That will make the Trandosians play nice with the Wookies. And it would have kept the systems that became the CIS happy.

That depends. If Mace Windu successfully killed Palpatine, that could've lead to another civil war ironically. The Jedi council had been debating about taking control of the senate if Palpatine refused to give up his emergency powers. The revelation of him being Darth Sidious and having co-conspirators would've sealed it, and expose the senate as incompetent and/or corrupt. A new split would occur between those wanting to set up a Jedi Lords theocracy, and those wanting to keep the Republic alive in some form. Ironically, I could see Anakin helping to lead the "rebels" side in this "second Clone Wars."
