This is how you see what people were doing hundreds of years ago at these old deserted New England farms. I took my Fisher F19 metal detector way way out into the now overgrown farmlands in the woods to do some relic hunting and landscape history exploring. Following old rock walls and bits of wagon trail or cart paths looking for old groomed and improved land. A lot of these old homesites were farms but mostly for livestock as you can see reading the land that most of it was wide open pasture. But, I did find a small several acre section where the ground was flat, worked and definitely had crops hundreds of years ago. Start metal detecting and we are finding relics from the 1700s and 1800s. One of the tomb buttons I dug still had thread in the shank ! that is like 250 years ol at least. If you want to find old places to metal detect in dig up great old relics this is the how to do it kind of video.

Genuine question, if some of this stuff is mid 1800’s, why is it that we don’t see y’all digging outhouse pits? There’s lots of KZbinrs that do and find all kinds of wonderful artifacts, many of them intact such as bottles, dishes, cups, etc... We hear you teach about walls, cellars, fireplaces and the like, but never the outhouse. Is this because of the terrain and they didn’t have an outhouse? I mean, it seems if the original farm place dug a cellar, they could have dug an outhouse too? And yes, I know some of the things you dug in this video was 1700’s, but wouldn’t they have had an outhouse too? Enjoy your content, btw! ETA: I see Charlie doesn’t respond to questions, so if someone else wants to chime in, that would be awesome. I find it super interesting. 😊

I done metal detecting on old farms that don't exist anymore. What I found, is the the thrill of searching the ground, yeah I find buckles, more than anything was horse shoe's, most times Indian head cents. And buttons. I kept it all, but my family didn't think like I did, and would throw it out.

A lot of those mystery cart paths that seem well built and just end are wood landings. Or general farm produce landings. A road built for easy acess year round where wagons etc could get in a ways then park to be loaded with logs, sheep, hay, etc. Oxen would go on from where the road ended into the rougher terrain.

Just wondering why you didn’t search the path as you walked to your destination? Us humans drop and loose the darnedest things on our travels.
